Quest of the Seekers: Elements of Transformation
Year One of Hogwarts
Chapter 11: Lightning, Fire, Wind and Water
That following days proved to not be difficult to control their emotions at all for the new elemental catalysts. That is until the announcement of the upcoming Quidditch match between Slytherin and Hufflepuff was announced five days after they took the elemental potion. It was like the days before the match with Gryffindor. The Slytherins started to jinx the Hufflepuffs in the hallways, which had triggered tension with the other houses. Tyler didn't want to be where this was happening but didn't have much choice. He had normal contact with his fellow 1st year Slytherins and Nott & Moore had their share of jinxing too. Matt did jinx them also but did it away from Tyler, Tyler heard of Matt's actions always by someone else, but he did actually appreciate that he had the courtesy to do it away from him unless the target ever was Brad. Even Severus and Regalus were starting fights and were always interrupted by the Marauders. Tyler kept his distance but it was proving too hard. Jacke, Reggie and Brad were having better luck than he did and managed to keep themselves away from confrontation and emotional risks.
...
"How do you guys control your emotions so well?" Tyler asked on the following Wednesday morning. "I almost blew it when that Gryffindor Sean Norman said I looked like a human fluffball. I actually made a spark above his head and I'm lucky he didn't notice it."
"Tyler, I know it's hard for you especially when Slytherin is outnumbered 3 to 1 but try not to let it get to you. The best advice I have for you is to isolate yourself from your fellow Slytherins."
"Look Reggie" Tyler said a little annoyed. "I know that you all think they're gits but that's in your presence. When we're in places like the common room they are totally different people. Believe me when I said that if they were like that all the time then I wouldn't hang around with them."
"Well then I should suggest that you limit it to your own common room, then."
Brad looked like he couldn't stand this any longer and broke up this quarrel. "Guys...Stop!"
Tyler and Reggie froze and stared at Brad like they just realized he was there. His expression was very scary, so much so that Jacke started to sweat a little out of nervousness.
"Look, I know you guys are upset but fighting each other isn't helping. First of all you both looked like you were about to lose control and absentmindedly set loose your elements. Also, the whole school is fighting and let's not join them. Remember the vow we made? No matter how the other houses act, we would try to stay friends. Obviously having friends in our own houses is important and I get why you're angry Reggie. It's hard for you, Jacke and I to make those friends when one of our own best friends happens to be in Slytherin while Tyler still manages to keep friends in his own house. It's frustrating and we all feel jealous of what Tyler can have while we can't. But it's not his fault. Let's try to not let that get in the way of us, okay?"
Tyler, Jacke and Reggie's eyes grew through every passing sentence of Brad's speech. Tyler couldn't believe what Brad had said. They were jealous of him because he managed to still have 3 slytherin friends. After a moment of thinking, Tyler decided that he didn't want his friends to suffer because of him.
"Look guys. If you three can't get friends because of me then maybe we should.
But Brad interrupted him right there. "No Tyler, don't you dare finish that. If we wanted then we wouldn't have stayed friends with you. Your friendship isn't something we want to sacrifice to have our house members befriend us if that is what it takes to get them to like us."
Jacke finally shut his mouth and talked. "Brad...that was really...really something. You really know how to change the mood of a room but you do tend to get scary sometimes."
"I'm not in Hufflepuff for nothing, Jacke."
Then out of nowhere all four shared a bit of laughing for the first time Hogwarts had heard in days. After they were finished Jacke spoke again.
"Guys, we still haven't got a place to train yet. Brad, aren't you going to show us your surprise location?"
"You know...I think you've waited long enough. Plus, there isn't a class for the next hour being that breakfast is still on. Follow me."
Brad took them outside the castle and led them to the lake. Then they went through the grass trail around the lake to an opening in the hills that had rocks of all sized mounted giving it the image that a shower of rocks dropped there. The space it had was wide enough to fit 2 houses.
"This is your great location." Tyler couldn't believe what he was seeing. "Don't get me wrong mate but this Would be a nice location if it wasn't accessible to the general wizard public" he added sarcastically.
"I'm not done." said Brad silencing Tyler.
He led them to the biggest rock and there they saw there was a hole they could crawl into. It was a tunnel that led to an underground cave. This cave had a high ceiling with a small lake in the center. It was such a wide space that it looked like the Great Hall might just fit in it.
"I discovered this place while I was hunting for a flower lily for the potion. I saw the hole in the rock when I came for the flower and I came onto this place."
Reggie snapped out of his fascination. "Brad, this is perfect. This place is big enough for us to practice and correct ourselves if we overdo our power. It also is hard to find."
Brad cut him off. "Reggie, I'm not sure of that. If you look carefully then you could notice the hole at the rock's base. Maybe we should plug it whenever we're here somehow."
"I know." Jacke had his head facing the entrance. "I think we should levitate a rock from that field to block the hole so it won't be so noticeable."
"I see no problem with that plan" said Tyler.
"Ok, since we're here, let's have a little practice now."
"Jacke, sometimes you're too brave and reckless for your own good."
"What can I say, Tyler."
The four of them went to the center close to the water after using the Levitating Charm that the Charms professor, Flitwick had taught them almost 4 months ago. They gathered together and Reggie removed the book from his bag.
"Okay, First, we have to imagine the element taking form in front of us then let our bodies create it but we can't be too tense or we'll lose control. At least that is how the book says to start."
After Reggie finished, they all went to four separate sections of the cave and they all closed their eyes. Tyler closed his eyes and started to visualize a spark in mid-air. He tried to be able to make the spark in his mind as real as possible. He tried to make it sound electric, he tried to make it's light electric, and he tried to make it feel electric in it's look. It was hard and he started to have his muscles grow tense around his body as he tried to make it realistic enough. He started to concentrate so much that he broke into a small sweat.
"No, no" he said to himself. "I've got to stay calm. I can't get tense."
He let loose a little and tried again. He only got as far as making it look good in his vision but couldn't finish the rest. He opened his eyes, expecting at least to find a few flickers of the lightning but there was nothing except faint glows. From what he saw he seemed to have the worst luck.
Surrounding Brad, was a faint but noticeable sign of making water surround him but it was just mist, right now anyway. Reggie had a light wind blowing, waving his hair and cloak a bit but still had his eyes closed. Even Jacke had started making better progress. In front of him were flickers of real orange and red light illuminating off his face. His already red hair top and black robe bottom gave the impression that he was a human sized torch. Tyler couldn't believe he was behind in his creation. His lightning element barely got to the flicker stage and to see his friends get a faster progress made him feel a little jealous.
After about 45 minutes of practicing their elements, Tyler broke the veil of concentration.
"Guys!...Sorry about breaking your concentration but we should head back. I just realized the time and we are going to be late to our classes."
Jacke had a look of frustration and annoyance while the others just stretched as if they just got up from bed.
"Does time always speed when people are doing exciting thing but slow when we're bored? It seems like we just started the training."
"Yeah, but let's not keep talking here. I have Charms next and I don't want to be late to one of Flitwick's classes."
"Honestly Reggie" said Jacke after they exited the cave and headed back to the castle. "One minute you are as mischievous as the rest of us and then you turn into a rule-breaking repellent."
"What can I say? I have a split personality" chuckled Reggie.
Tyler snickered shortly after. "Now I know that I just didn't hear Reginald Falkner develop a powerful sense of humor."
Reggie glared at Tyler, which silenced him but didn't wipe off his smile.
When they got back to the castle Reggie headed of to Charms, while Brad left for Transfiguration and Jacke & Tyler set off for their Flying Lessons with Madam Hooch.

End of Chapter 11
Nightlit: You may think they are too powerful for first year students going through this whole elemental thing but remember. They are learning fast because of the book that came out of the Slytherin family 'Deep Level'. Don't worry, they will discover that there are limits to their powers. Also, Tyler was receiving tips and training from his father and grandpa (from Chapter 7) so he knows how to duel and stuff. Not strong, he's only 11 but still knows a few tricks that some 13 year olds might know. Good luck on your story. I'm checking daily to see if you updated yet and I'm glad you're keeping up with my story.
...
Author Notes: Well that's that for Chapter 11. Next Chapter is Time for Joy, Sorrow and Hate where things go from bad to worse for the foursome and for Hogwarts but I'll leave you guessing what might happen. Review please!!!!
