Quest of the Seekers: Elements of Transformation

Year One at Hogwarts

Chapter 18: Until Next Year Tyler

Slanted Words Means parseltongue

Regulus and Severus came in and they supplied all the pictures that they got developed in Hogsmeade. It seems they got four copies of every picture they took for all four of them.

However, out of all of them, he had to say that he liked the 4-person picture that they took last the best. It had all four with great happiness, showed them all laughing together and in a backhand grouping. But then, Tyler had a good idea.

"Severus, do you mind if I borrow your camera tomorrow after the last quidditch match?"

"Why?"

"Er...I was hoping...that I could take some pictures with Jacke, Brad and Reggie. Only if it's okay of course," he added quickly.

Severus looked like he was about to say no but he loosened and looked at Tyler with meaning. Was he thinking if it was okay? Even Regulus and Matt were looking with suspense to find out Severus' answer. Then he let out an outtake of air and spoke with all three in anticipation.

"Alright. I think you deserve a picture with you 'other' friends."

Tyler felt deep gratitude to Severus and he replied in a soft meaning voice. "Thanks Severus."

By the next day, the whole school was in deep excitement that hadn't been seen since the Bones family was killed. It was the day of the last quidditch match of the season: Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw. So far it looked like Slytherin was going to win. However should either team score above 250 points without the snitch then they would win the cup.

Tyler had already found a good seat next to Brad and Reggie located in the middle of the field. Jacke came and joined them there soon after, but what happened next was something he would've never expected. Regulus came and asked if it was okay to join them. Plus he didn't ask this to Tyler, he asked this to his fellow elementals.

"Do you mind? I would understand if you rather not have me around."

Reggie and Brad looked like they were indeed considering to or not. After all, Tyler had told them all about Regulus (except for the deepest things) about him. Jacke, however, didn't take long and got up and said,

"No, not at all. Regulus, I'm Jacke if you don't remember and I again thank you for helping me a while back. This is Brad (pointing to Brad) and Reginald but his friends call him Reggie (pointing to Reggie)."

"Reggie, Brad, I am Regulus Black." He moved his had for them to shake and while the cheering roared higher for the teams, who started entering, they in turn shook his hand.

All five of them sat together watching the match as the action rolled on. The score was Gryffindor 190, Ravenclaw 110. It was building up action as the chasers ripped through the field trying to score the most goals with the quaffle.

James Potter was in possession of the quaffle and got to the other side of the pitch and scored regardless of the Ravenclaw keeper's attempt to stop him. Then the Ravenclaw chasers started to make a comeback with a vengeance. Soon the score became Gryffindor and Ravenclaw 250 apiece. The two teams were trying to take full possession of the quaffle but nether team had it for long without losing it to the other. Then at that second, the two seekers that have been circling the field the entire match darted toward the Ravenclaw side of the pitch. Tyler looked hard at what they were going at. They had spotted the snitch!

When the seekers zoomed together it made all the chasers and the beaters start to fly faster. It was obvious they were trying to core one last time before the game could end. Potter dived and intercepted the quaffle throwing it to Black who passed it to Herald and again to Potter, who got to the front of the line. He shot it aiming for the center ring and at the same time the Ravenclaw keeper was moving to block it when...

"Potter scores!" shouted the commentator.

But then at that very second, Tyler turned to see just in time as the seeker Rayne of Gryffindor caught the snitch.

"The match is over! Gryffindor has beat Ravenclaw 410-250!"

Then Professor McGonagall took over. "Gryffindor wins the Quidditch Cup!"

The fans all jumped and expressed their excitement. The Slytherins weren't cheering however. Tyler didn't blame them. Gryffindor had narrowly won the cup by a mere ten points, which took Slytherin's chance for it. Tyler just clapped politely with Regulus and Reggie while Jacke and Brad shouted at the top of their lungs.

Normally all of them would've gone to their common rooms after the matches but all of them including Regulus stayed on the grounds. They were taking random pictures until they decided for a five-person picture after Regulus just took one of the four different house wizards. But Regulus pointed a problem with that idea.

"We didn't bring the stand and I'm not good at transfiguring items out of scratch yet."

"Well there has to be something we could do," said Brad.

Just then there was a deep voice calling to them. "Hey! Is there something wrong there?"

It was Rubeus Hagrid, the caretaker, wearing his moleskin coat.

"Er, yes Mr. Hagrid." replied Reggie.

"Oh please don't call me mister. Just Hagrid is just fine...er?"

"Reggie. And this is Brad, Jacke Tyler and"

"Regulus Black, yes I know you. And I've seen you four on the grounds together a lot throughout the year. I must say, quite nice to see young ones from differ't houses all doing fun things together. What can I help you laddies with?"

"Well" Brad started. "We were wondering if you could take a photo of the five of us?"

"Well of course I can."

Regalus gave him the camera while all the young first year friends came together. They aligned themselves from the left: Brad, Reggie, Jacke, Tyler, and Regulus, in straight line with their arms over each others back forming one big group chain.

"All right. You lot say 'Hogwarts'!"

"Hogwarts!" and with that the photo was taken.

It seemed impossible for Tyler to believe that it was the last day of his first year at Hogwarts. He felt that it went by too fast. A lot had happened after the photo was taken the day after the final quidditch match.

Firstly, the young elementals had agreed, that at manipulating elements, they were truly powerful. After one month of further training, all four had learned to control the natural elements properly. The only thing they had to watch for was if their emotions were too strong. If they got was too hot or angry then they run the risk of slipping but Tyler wasn't worried because he had only had that kind of anger once when Jacke and himself had the fight long ago.

Also, Severus invited Matt, Regulus and himself to see his leaving ceremony and they congratulated him and they celebrated together at the common room.

But as for close to the present time, they had taken what he and the other first years feared the most! End of Year Exams. Turns out that Tyler, Brad, Jacke, Reggie and Matt all passed which Tyler knew was due to helping each other with their own fields of expertise.

That very moment, however, Tyler was sitting on the rock field where the cave was and talking to his snake Chaos after checking for privacy.

"Well Chaos, this is it. The end of my first year is here."

"Is this supposed to be good or bad?"

"Well it depends Chaos."

"How so Tyler?"

"Well, at times like these you could reflect on all the good times we have all shared together."

Immediately Tyler went into flashbacks of random things that had happened. When he first met Jacke on the train, the vow that they, with Brad and Reggie took, meeting Matt, Severus and Regulus, becoming an elemental, his first real parselduel with his dad, defending the muggleborn at the corridors, the broom race and other things with his human friends.

He then looked at Chaos and remembered the day he bought him. Memories flashed of milking him, their time of dueling together with his dad, Chaos finding the tunnel networks in Hogwarts. Chaos had become a good familiar to him.

"Chaos...I hope that we'll be able to stay together always."

"So do I Tyler. Maybe even meet your human friends up close."

"Now that is something that can never happen" said Tyler sadly.

"Well, maybe, one day, it will."

Tyler returned to the common room to finish packing before the leaving feast. Matt, Nott, and Moore were there packing up and checking to make sure they didn't leave anything behind. Tyler packed everything from his spell books to his supply of clothes. He did a retake on his part of the room and noticed that there was still one more thing to pack. It was all the photos taken after the match and the ones from May 1st.

He picked them up and looked at them one by one. He had made six friends, good friends during his time here. He had an emotional smile as he kept going over the photos. He decided to hang them at the walls of his room as soon as he got back home.

'I think I'll keep these with me though' he thought.

He pulled out two photos from the big clump on his lap. One was of him with his Slytherin friends and the other, him with his elemental friends, from the clutter to carry with him always.

After Tyler packed all the pictures in his trunk, he left with the other slytherins to go to the Great Hall to attend the feast. Everyone gathered at their tables and started to eat. Tyler was halfway through his mash potatoes when Dumbledore requested silence.

"Well we have past another year together. Some had their first of many experiences here and for others it is the last time we'll see you. I hope that we can look past all the hardships that were felt this year and not let it rule over you. We can all overlook them if we stay together."

The majority of the room bowed their heads down including Tyler to have respect for all the tragedies that was faced.

"On a greater note, I'm pleased to announce that the results of the points are in. The winners of the house cup are the Gryffindors with 510 points!"

The Gryffindor table went into cheer at this. They all went and gave cheers to each other as well brotherly hugs. It appeared that the quidditch game gave them a guaranteed win. Tyler saw Jacke shake the hands of his fellow house members including the marauders. Reggie and Brad were clapping with their houses and Tyler decided to give them a polite applause as well.

The next day came for Tyler with both happiness and sadness mixed in together. Happy to have had a great year but sad to be leaving. He found Severus on the platform and went to him.

"Severus, it's really weird to say goodbye and not say hi again."

"Don't worry Tyler. We'll see each other again. And we could still write each other."

Then he gave Severus a goodbye hug and after they were done Severus went into the train with a face that said he had very emotional feelings on his mind. Tyler wondered for a second if his father ever gave him those types of hugs before. Then he went on the train and ran into Regulus.

"Regulus! I was hoping to get the chance to say bye until our return."

"Me too. It's been real fun to have you around. Also I really have to say you've got a good taste in friends. I may have thought that it had been a bad idea from the start but you showed me that it wasn't a mistake."

It took a few seconds for Tyler to guess he was referring to his best friends Jacke, Reggie and Brad. He smiled in response and said "Thanks Regulus" in a little voice. Then Matt came and after a good handshake, he and Regulus went to the nearest compartment while Tyler went into the back of the train.

He and his friends decided to meet there like when they did at the start of their first year so it should be repeated at the end. Strangely, just like at September 1st, Jacke was already there in the same seat. Tyler went to the seat he did after meeting him last time and Reggie and Brad joined them. The train pulled out of the station and Hogwarts started to disappear in the distance.

"Hey" said Brad. "What do we do now?"

"What do you mean Brad?" said Tyler.

"We're elementals now, remember? Do we continue to practice? Or is it all finished?"

"Well let me check the book one last time" said Reggie.

He pulled it out and read again. After some time he closed the book.

"Well we've done all the training the book says to do. All we do now is have private practices. It even says that we can teach ourselves unique tricks to do like when you've learned to ride a bike."

"What's a bike?" asked Jacke and Tyler.

"Muggle thing for traveling," said Brad. "You ride on it by pushing on the pedals to travel on two wheels and can do tricks if you master it."

"Weird" said Jacke.

"Yeah...weird. Anyway, I'm sure that we'll come up with our own styles. 'To every elemental his own'" Tyler said trying to sound like a mentor.

"Where did you get that?" asked Jacke who looked a little impressed.

"Oh, it's just something that I thought up."

"No it isn't. You got that from the book. I read that just now."

The other three started to laugh and Tyler joined in on them. "I was only trying to sound more spiritual."

"Good luck on that one" chuckled Brad. "Listen guys" he continued with a serious tone now. "I was wondering if we'll keep up being best friends through all that again."

Tyler knew he was referring to being shunned by their houses.

"Of course!" said all three of them.

"Thought as much."

Then all of the young friends wore a smile the rest of the ride to the King's Cross' Platform 9 ¾. Before all of them left Tyler closed the compartment door to ensure privacy and that they didn't leave yet.

"What is it Tyler?"

"I was thinking that we show our elements one last time before we say goodbye."

Then all of them held out their hands and created their elements in the palms of their hands as a reminder of what they accomplished together. Then they made them vanish and said together "Bye mates."

Tyler took one last look at his friends before going on the platform. He went around and after a while found his father holding the familiar candlestick portkey.

"Hi Tyler."

"Hi dad." He hugged his dad harder then he ever did. Pandy gave a hoot of affection and Tyler could hear Chaos give a similar hiss from inside his trunk where he hid him.

"Wow, you seemed to be more cheerful then I remember."

"I had a good first year."

Then they took the portkey and vanished away from the platform in high spirits heading for the Great Down Mountains to the Slytherin Mansion.

End of Chapter 18

Nightlit: I am glad you are still reading. Also the notes about the trio's connection to the marauders was their outer qualities. Their personalities and feelings are on the bottom of chapter 16. But don't worry. You repeated my observations accurately. Keep it up with Trials of the Four for I'm hoping to see more of what is up with Saren, Wesley, and even that blind little kid from the sorting.

Author Notes.

This marks not only the end of chapter 18 but the end of the Quest of the Seekers: Elements of Transformation. This chapter is the longest but I thought that I should end with a bang. Now I know people are going to ask first of all about the title. The (elements of transformation) should be clear by now so I won't bother to explain that part. For reference to the (quest of the seekers) part, it will be revealed in my next story. If you have any questions then please review and I will try to answer them at my next story.
