"Shawn. Shawn. SHAWN!"
Cory was busy chasing Shawn down the street outside the apartment complex.
"Leave me alone, Cory. I don't wanna talk about it right now."
"Too bad. You're gonna listen to me."
"Why should I? I thought that I could trust you and Topanga to tell me anything."
"Shawn, don't be childish. You know that Topanga kept that from you for a reason: she didn't want this to happen!"
"Why would she keep something this big from us! Cory, what if something had happened to her, and we didn't know what to do for her? Cory, she could've died! Cory, I acted the way I did because I'm scared Cory! I've already lost my dad, and the thought of losing you or Topanga...I don't even want to think about it."
"Oh, Shawn," Cory said sympathetically, hugging his best friend. "We're all scared, Shawn. For Topanga, and the baby...but, everything is gonna be okay Shawn. I promise."
"I'm sorry I acted the way I did. I just run when I can't deal with something."
"Shawn, no matter what, you can always talk to me. I'll always be there for you."
"I know Cory. But thanks for reminding me."
The pair laughed for no apparent reason at all. For a second it was like they were twelve again.
Topanga and Cory's parents sat nervously across from their children. All they had been told was that Cory and Topanga had some "news". The table was so tense you could cut the air with a knife.
"Well, we told you we had some news, so I'm just gonna come out and say it...I'm, I mean we, well, we're pregnant."
The Matthews got identical looks of pure and utter joy on their faces. The Lawrences, who were only here together for Topanga's sake, had identical looks of anger and concern.
"Topanga, your father and I thought you had better sense than to do something this impractical. Do you listen when the doctors and specialists are talking to you? Cory obviously doesn't, but do you?"
"Mother, that was uncalled for."
"Topanga, you are not financially or medically capable of raising this child. I don't what you were thinking when you allowed this to happen."
"Mother, I can't do this without your support. Can't you try to be happy for us?"
"Congratulations, Topanga," replied her mother in an icy tone before she got up and left.
"Daddy?" Topanga turned to her father.
"I'm sorry Topanga. Your mother and I haven't agreed on much since the divorce, but I do agree with her on this one," he answered as he to got up and left.
Topanga tried but found it impossible to hold back her tears.
"It's okay, honey," Mrs. Matthews said as she rubbed Topanga's back. "They'll come around."
The rest of the evening was drown in Topanga's tears. At that moment, there was nothing that anyone could say or do to make her feel better.
