Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto
Warning Rated M for darker themes in later chapters. If you are a light hearted reader than don't read this
So I really love Naruto x Hanabi and that's what this story is about. It will play out differently than the main timeline or whatever you wanna call it and won't focus on the series in it's entirety. I'm not touching anything from Boruto either. For example Itachi hasn't slaughtered his clan yet and Shisui succeeded in using his sharingan on the Uchiha clan.
On a warm day like many others two of the Hyuga clan's members were walking through the market. It was none other than a young Hanabi Hyuga and her caretaker Nastu Hyuga.
A crowd had started to gather nearby and they turned to see why. A shopkeeper was yelling at a young blonde haired kid who had to be about five years older than Hanabi.
"I told you kid! I don't want you around here, your nothing but a nuisance!"
"But I wasn't even doing anything!" The boy rebutted angrily.
"Is this what you want?!" The shopkeeper threw the mask at Naruto. The blonde kid picked it up and left, it was clear he was in a sour mood but why would anyone treat a child that way was quite unclear.
"What's with that boy?" Hanabi asked.
"Well you see it's like the shopkeeper said." Nastu paused briefly unsure of what to say next but leaned down a few seconds later.
"Listen you must never go near that boy."
Two years later
A now seven year old Hanabi was sparring with her sister Hinata and doing a rather good job keeping up. She blocked every palm strike from her sister and always seemed to be able to shoot back.
"Lady Hanabi is... amazing." One of the Hyuga adults spoke aloud in an impressed and slightly dumbfounded tone.
Later after the match, Hiashi and the Hyuga Elder we're talking. "Hanabi has shown great potential for her age. Perhaps you should begin training her to become heiress of the clan instead of Hinata." The Elder suggested.
"Perhaps you are right. Hinata's nature makes her bad at confrontation. That being said she is still five years older and has had more training in the clan arts." Hiashi took the Elders words into consideration and was in deep thought of how to approach the situation.
About thirty seconds later he had decided. "I will hold a sparring match between the two tomorrow. The winner will be trained to become heiress."
The next day had come and many of the clan members were gathered in the training field within the compound.
"I don't want either of you to hold back today. The direction of the clans future all depends on the outcome of this match." Hiashi said sternly.
The two girls activated their byakugans and got into their battle stance.
"Begin!"
Hanabi dashed forward immediately and took the offensive showing that she seemed to be on the more offensive side while Hinata showed to be on the defensive side by blocking and evading every attack.
Eventually Hanabi had made a mistake in which Hinata offset her footing leaving her exposed.
'I have to be strong for our clan, I have to be strong for Naruto. I'm sorry for this Hanabi.'
Wiping away all hesitation for just that brief moment Hinata struck her sister in the back sending her to the ground.
"That's enough!"
Hiashi walked over to his eldest daughter. "Had you lost today then I would've started training Hanabi to become heiress but it seems like you have more fighting spirit afterall. Your training will continue." With the decision of who will lead the clan now decided everyone left to resume the various chores and missions of the Hyuga clan.
Soon it was just Hiashi and Hanabi left. Hanabi while still in pain slowly got up on her feet, her sisters attack was stronger than it seemed.
"Father." She muttered quietly in sadness and shame. Looking up she saw a cold, hateful, and disappointed expression on his face.
Without another word he turned his back and left. He needn't say any harsh words as his facial expressions said them all.
Hanabi contemplated everything that had just happened and realized the purpose of that match. To decide who would be treasured... and who would be discarded. Tears slowly rolled down her face as she ran out of the compound.
Somewhere else in the village a certain blonde haired boy was walking down a narrow path with a goofy grin on his face.
'Painting the four hokage statues was a hilarious idea. Iruka sensei didn't seem to like it though. Maybe I should say sor-augh?!
Naruto's thoughts were interupted by someone running into him and knocking him on the ground.
'Uhh, what just hit me?' Naruto thought in confusion but felt a certain weight on his chest. He looked down to see a young brown haired girl wearing some kind of combat training attire.
The girl looked up and Naruto immediately noticed her large white eyes. 'Is she related to that Hinata girl by any chance?' He pondered the idea.
"I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." The girl suddenly apologized.
Naruto chuckled lightly while he rubbed the back of his head. "No worries. Why were you running though?"
His question caused her expression to darken suddenly. After a few moments of awkward and depressing silence Hanabi hesitantly spoke up.
"I... think my father... hates... me."
Naruto was left dumbfounded and speechless by the statement but Hanabi continued to speak soon.
"I had to fight my sister today. The winner was to become heiress of our clan and the loser... I don't even wanna think about it anymore." Hanabi spoke in a glum tone and started to cry again as she reflected on what happened earlier.
Naruto stared at her crying and the sight was heart wrenching to him. He knew what it was like to be cast aside and how horrible it feels to be alienated from the rest of society.
Not really knowing how to console someone he knew there was probably nothing he could do to help the girl but he wanted to try. He wrapped his arms around the girl and hugged her tightly.
Hanabi's sobs slowly died down as her focus was on the embrace of the older boy. She wrapped her arms around him and stared off in silence and uncertainty.
"Hey."
She turned back to the blonde boy to see what he was about to say.
"What's your name anyways?" He suddenly asked
"I'm Hanabi... Hanabi Hyuga."
"Nice to meet you Hanabi. I'm Naruto."
A small smile came across Hanabi's face as she felt happy to be with him. She felt like he seemed to know how she felt at least to an extent.
"Hanabi?"
"Yes Naruto?"
"Could you let me get up now?"
Hanabi looked down to see she was still laying on Naruto and blushed slightly before getting up. Afterwards Naruto finally stood up.
"You wanna get some ramen?" He offered casually.
"Ramen? I've never had it before."
Naruto's eyes nearly popped out of his skull when he heard that. How could she have never had eaten such a delicacy before?
Hanabi noticed his weird staring and got a little uncomfortable with it. "Umm... the Hyuga clan follows a strict diet. We don't really eat food like that."
"That does it!"
Hanabi's eyes widen in surprise as Naruto grabs her wrist and practically drags her towards town.
"Where are we going? I can walk myself you know."
Seemingly hell bent on whatever task at hand has appeared before him he never let go of her but he did answer. "Where going to the ramen shop. It's a straight crime that you have never tasted it before. Just what the hell is wrong with your clan?"
'Believe me. I wish I knew.' Hanabi thought in annoyance as she allowed Naruto to continue dragging her to the shop.
Later at the ramen shop Naruto had gulped down three bowls already while Hanabi was staring at her first one.
"Go on Hanabi. Try it, it's really good." He encouraged.
Hanabi slowly brought the chopsticks to her mouth. 'Well no sense in being afraid. Here goes nothing.' She quickly thrust the utensils into her mouth and pulled the food off of them. She savored the taste of the first bite and when she finished that she promptly and frantically emptied the bowl.
"THIS IS DELICIOUS!" She excitedly exclaimed.
"Told ya so." Naruto nonchalantly said with a smug face.
"I'll take two more!" Hanabi declared gaining a chuckle from the shop owner.
Three months later
Nastu brought Hanabi her daily lunch and was about to leave when the girl suddenly spoke up.
"I have a question."
Natsu turned around with a curious glint in her eye. "What might you be wondering about my dear?"
"So there's this boy I like. He's like a friend... but it feels weird. I'm always much happier than I should be when I see him, my heart flutters everytime I see his smile, I get this warm feeling every time we make contact, and even when I'm not around him I can't stop thinking about him."
Natsu giggled. "Sounds like your in love."
Hanabi tilted her head in confusion. "I'm... in... love?"
Natsu nodded affirmatively.
After a few seconds Hanabi asked another question.
"What should I do then? I want him to love me back."
Natsu put a finger to her chin as she thought about how to answer.
"Well... You should first see how he feels. If he doesn't feel the same way then just be persistent in your quest for love. Someone has to make the first move but you also need to make him fall in love with you too. Just spend more time with him and make him happy then his affection for you will grow and perhaps one day evolve into love. Also don't be too pushy or desperate or you'll just drive him away."
Hanabi absorbed the bulk of her statement and nodded agreeing.
"Thankyou, I am gonna go talk to him now." She said and ran out of the compound.
Natsu watched with a sad smile. 'Poor girl. Falling in love is the cruelest fate a Hyuga girl could ever be faced with. She'll probably just be forced into an arranged marriage later on in life.'
Later on over on a hill with a view of the whole village. Naruto and Hanabi were sitting on the hill against a tree.
"Hey Naruto?"
He looked over at her cute little face to see she wanted to ask something. "What's up Hanabi?"
"Do you... love me?"
Naruto chuckled in response. "What kind of question is that? Of course I love you."
Konoha would never see a bigger smile than the one on the girls face at that moment.
"Your like a little sister to me afterall."
That smile died instantly as she felt her heart sink. A look of pure disappointment adorned her face.
"Oh... Ok." She said bummed out. She did a good job keeping her composure but she was crying on the inside. 'I wanna be more than that.'
She knew at that moment that she would need to resort to other methods to get Naruto to love her but she just didn't know where to start.
'I will find a way and when I do you'll feel the same warmth and desire that I feel Naruto.' She thought to herself as smiled again and hugged the boy tightly and affectionately.
So here's my prologue for the story. Where Hanabi's story begins pretty much. This is my favorite pairing from Naruto and I have wanted to make a fanfiction about it for awhile.
