Chapter 6: Just One Chance
"Lily!" James said running into the common room after her. "Lily, what was that?"
"It was," Lily said blushing slightly, "Exactly what it looked like: a kiss."
"But, why?" James asked.
"For the same reason I told you out there: as a thank you."
"Lily, can I ask you a question?"
"Um...okay. Shoot."
"Harry told me there is a trip to Hogsmead this Saturday, and I was wondering if you would go-"
"James," Lily said, "I have told you before: No,"
"Come on Lily," James said, "Just one chance. Please?"
Lily looked at him, as though sizing him up.
"You know what James?" She said.
"What?"
"I think that I will face the inevitable and go with you to-"
But she didn't finish. James had swept her into a hug.
"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I can't wait."
"James, you're crushing me," Lily said.
"Oh," said James releasing her from the hug, grinning sheepishly, "Sorry."
Lily grinned.
"James, one chance. You blow this no more chances."
"Well we both know that I am destined not to blow this because there our offspring sits with his girl friend."
Goodnight James, I will see you tomorrow. Oh," she added, "I think that I am excited to."
James grinned.
"Night, Lilith."
"Don't call me that," she called walking up the stairs.
The next four days went by so fast that, before they even realized it, it was Friday night.
"So, Ginny," Sirius said conversationally, "Do you know anybody that would go to Hogsmead with me?"
"Well," Ginny said looking up from her book, "Let's see. I am assuming that you want somebody pretty?"
"Defiantly."
"Okay," Ginny said, "Well there's Pavarti, but I think she is going with Seamus. Or there is Luna she is quite pretty now. Though still a little odd."
"No crazy peoples," Sirius said.
"Well, let me see. What about Lavender? She is pretty and not crazy. Although she is kind of easy. What about-"
"No!" Sirius shouted, "Me likes easy."
He got up and walked over to Lavender.
"Honestly," Ginny whispered to herself turning back to her book.
The next day was Saturday and nobody was more ecxited than James about the Hogsmead trip.
That morning James woke up at the crack of dawn, got dressed, and had breakfast in the kitchen due to the fact that the Great Hall was not open yet.
When he was finished with breakfast, he sat in the common room reading a book half heartedly. He was restless.
Finally, he couldn't take it anymore. He walked to the girl's staircase and screamed up the stairs as he couldn't go up there.
"LILY! LILY! LILY!"
Lily came running to the top of the staircase.
"What is it? What's the matter?"
"Oh good," James said, "You are up. Hurry up and get dressed, so we can eat breakfast."
"James," Lily said in a slightly scary voice that made James take a step back, "You woke me up at 6:17 in the morning to tell me to get dressed for a date. James we can't leave for Hogsmead FOR ANOTHER THREE HOURS AND FORTY- FIVE MINUTES!"
James cringed.
"Oh," he said sheepishly.
"Go back to bed James," Lily said turning around to go back to her dormitory.
Three hours later, Lily and James were headed to the Great Hall for breakfast.
They ate quickly because nobody was really talking.
Except Sirius and Lavender. They were cooing softly to each other and, in Lavender's case, giggling.
"You are so pretty," Sirius whispered in Lavender's ear. She giggled
"Would you two please stop it?" Harry said, "You are making me sick."
"Oh well," James said, "It is time to go."
They all got up and left for Hogsmead.
