She was screaming, drooling and yowling, like a cat in heat. Her tentacles writhed, slapping at the sides of her glass containment tube, neck rolling back, mouth thrown open, rows and rows of tiny, needle-like teeth bared, her thick serpentine tongue coiling out and out.

And out. It lapped at the glass.

Feeding time.

Hojo brought out a hand from his back, one bony finger pressing a small button before him, something buzzed, air hissing from above the tank, undignified warbling and scratching answering the whirring noise before a terrified squawk and a mighty splash was heard. The chocobo shrieked in panic, bubbles streaming from its mouth as Jenova reached out for it.

Hojo watched as a thick tentacle wrapped around the tiny chocobo, the bird squealing in further alarm, releasing another stream of bubbles that drifted upwards. Jenova screeched again, a cloud of blood obscuring her body, the sound of soft flesh striking the side of the tank, wings fluttering underwater and struggling.

It barely registered to him that he had been holding in a breath, and Hojo released it in one long sigh.

There was a another blur of scarlet, cleared away by the filtration system as Jenova fed, tendrils ripping apart flesh and feather, the sounds of muscle unfurling and bones snapping muted by the thick glass.

She was Kali, an angry goddess, violent and cruel. She was Dorga. She was Nemesis and Lillith.

She was a beast. An animal with the powers of a witch, at his mercy, caught in a tube and eating a squealing bird.

A giggle finally escaped his lips, a mix of concern and confusion clouding the faces of Gast and the others as they stopped to stare at him.

Hojo looked away, blushing, and coughed into his hand.
