Alternate Beginning of Pirates!

-1724 London-

A young lady -18 years old- sits at a desk, bent over a book, writing quietly. She sits up, looking towards the door with an alarmed look on her face as the doorknob turns. An older man finely dressed enters, and the young woman's face looks more relaxed.

Young Lady (Nancy Kington):
Good afternoon, Adam.

Adam Broom:
Oh please. Call me Captain Broom, like you used to.

Nancy Kington:
Very well, Captain.

Broom closes the door, and Nancy smiles, starting to write again.

Broom:
What are you doing this fine evening?

Nancy:
I'm writing up my adventures I had with Minerva-

Broom:
Aye! Delivering to Mr. Daniel Defoe?

Nancy:
Aye. How is Minerva? Any news?

Broom takes off his hat, looking quiet serious, and Nancy looks up, slightly frightened.

Broom:
She is... quite fine. Her baby is quite healthy as well.

Nancy lets out a sigh of relief and gives Broom a big smile and a shake of her head.

Broom:
How is the story coming along?

Nancy:
It is quite a marvelous story, but then, you were there half of it.

Broom:
Aye, I was. You would mind, well, reading it to me?

Nancy looks up from her writing, and looks curiously at Broom.

Nancy:
Do you not remember it?

Broom: Oh, no, of course I remember it, but it has been a while. I also don't have
much to do this evening, it would be a wonderful take up of my time.
Please, would you read your old captain a story?

Nancy laughs as she picks up her nearly finished book.

Nancy:
Take a seat.

Broom takes a seat in Nancy's room, and she sits in front of him, opening to the first page of her book.

Nancy:
I was of a roving frame of mind, even as a child...

Nancy's voice and the two of them fade out.
