Episode 3: Hatching Plans
Colourful decorations hung between buildings of Mariner Bay. Joel, Kelsey and Ryan hefted the heavy boxes towards the Rescue Rover. "I can't believe Captain Mitchell's letting us really decorate the Aquabase!" exclaimed Kelsey.
"Well the tunnels are up, the demons have been lying low and Dana aced her last test" smiled Joel. "Plus Sera didn't get the whole Easter Parade."
"And he gave her the "it stands for peace" speech" Ryan laughed. "I'm driving".
"I call shotgun!" Kelsey yelled. The Rover took off leaving a trail of crêpe paper to drift to the purple high-heel boots of a familiar woman.
"The Easter Parade is to celebrate the Founding of Mariner Bay" Captain Mitchell explained to Sera. "It's a fun time for everyone." They walked down the hall. "Just take a look". He opened the door to the cafeteria, the colourful springtime decorations hung from the ceiling and baskets with chocolate eggs sat on the tables.
"See?" Captain Mitchell grinned.
"Wow" Sera exclaimed. "It looks great!"
"Call it a celebration that you're part of the team" Dana said popping up from behind the counter in a pair of pink bunny ears and a tight pink business suit with the playboy bunny logo on it. Kelsey appeared from behind a table in a yellow suit with feathers on it. "Yeah, have a little fun with us!" Kelsey chirped. "The Carnival is tonight and we're dressed like it's the Mardi Gras!"
"The boys are getting changed," added Dana to her father.
"Dana Mitchell you're not leaving this place wearing those clothes!" the Captain intoned. Dana felt five again and looked down at the figure- hugging outfit with its sequined lapels and cuffs and shimmering sling backs. "Come on Daddy, It's the Carnival! You know all the town will be there!"
Sera glanced at Dana. She put her glasses on and blinked. "All the town?"
"Shush Dana!" squeaked Kelsey Theatrically as she put the huge plume of feathers on her head. "Don't give Sera a reason to fret".
"Its perfect for Nick...rosis to attack" Sera said. "He loves irony". She shivered. "A celebration of peace and laughter? He'd been nuts to turn it down!"
"We'll take our morphers" Dana reassured. "Now, come on! We picked out an outfit for you!"
"Are you coming Captain Mitchell?" asked Ms Fairweather as the women headed for the doors.
"Yes, but I'll be with the Mayor in his booth. The rangers all decided to remain out of the limelight."
"Oh yes" Ms Fairweather nodded. "I turned the good Mayor down on her invite."
'I feel like Mr January!' grated Carter from behind the console. "I'm not going!"
"Oh get over it!" snorted Chad. He was dressed in a shimmering white sailor suit with sequined blue on it. "It's just a bit of fun!"
Joel adjusted his Cowboy hat and grinned toothily. "Well I look suave," he said as he shifted his black sequined dotted suit to be more comfortable. "Like a proper Cowboy!"
"And a Vegas one" grinned Ryan. Joel stuck his tongue out at the young man wearing a very loose flouncing white shirt and beige slacks with red zigzags up the sides and a sash covered in fake rubies. He held a rapier in a sheath that he was trying to attach to his belt.
Carter's head poked up from behind the console so everything above his nose was visible. "Well you guys have fun!"
Dana entered in her tight and rather revealing pink suit. Carter shot up, exposing his costume. Dana stared at him for a second. "Who got you that?" she gasped in surprise.
"Ryan and Joel" grimaced Carter. He was wearing a heavy fireman's jacket decorated with sequined leaf plates and a pair of too-tight yellow vinyl trousers terminating in heavy black boots. He was also minus a shirt it seemed and trying to hold his decorated helmet and keep the jacket shut at the same time. "Any of the others from the firehouse see this and I will never live it down!"
Ms Fairweather appeared with Kelsey. Ms Fairweather wore a silver and gold breastplate, a pearl white leather dress covered with ivory coloured strips from the breastplate and a winged helmet. She tugged at the silver boots and smiled. 'Well?"
'Pick your jaw up Joel" Ryan hissed. Joel shut his mouth and kept staring.
"Come on Sera" Ms Fairweather called down the hall. Seconds later she appeared. She still wore her glasses but she was dressed in a high collared dark blue coat with glittering embroidery. It had long tails and wide sleeves; it resembled faintly a toy soldier's coat or something from the opera. She had shimmering lace at her throat and white gloves. Her dark blue trousers were shiny of course and her buccaneer boots were made of dark velvet. Her hair was still pinned up but the hairpins were stylish beaded ones that jangled as they swung.
'T-This isn't me' she laughed covering her face.
'The best part about Carnival...' Dana said. 'Is that you can dress odd and wear a mask!'
She put the small sequined pink mask to her face so it covered her eyes. 'See?'
Kelsey put her yellow-feathered one on; Ms Fairweather fitted her pointed ivory and pearl covered one to her face. Sera put the pearl band on so the dark blue veil covered her face. Carter was only too happy to tie on his red band of material. Joel gleefully declared "Hi HO SILVER" as he donned his own white mask like the lone rangers and Chad slipped the sea-patterned mask over his eyes and nose.
Ryan grabbed a tub from the desk to his left. 'Finishing touch' he said as he tabbed a small brush in it and painted a curling moustache on and tied the bandana mask to his face. 'Well?'
'Your moustache is running' Kelsey snickered.
"Easter Parade" Conjura stated as they stood at her large full-length mirror. In the midst of the swirling tortured souls a vision of colourful floats and dancing people became visible. "How...Technicolor"
"They celebrate peace and laughter...and a rabbit with an egg addiction," snorted Desparion. "How human".
"What a pathetic custom" yawned Conjura. "We never had it back home in Ireland... this was a St Patrick's Day type thing"
Necrosis strode forwards. "I have an idea," he said. He drew a card and showed it to his comrades in evil. "Well if the people like a celebration of eggs...wait until they see what this one Hatches!" sneered Necrosis.
"Delicious" whispered Conjura.
Necrosis hurled the card into the air and spun his staff before him. He spun around holding the staff near the end as he whirled it and stabbed into the card.
I summon the terror mother bird
Bring her forth at my WORD!
The card exploded into a cloud of dark green feathers. They fluttered about and created hurricane. In a flash a shape had appeared. Apparently female with a slender form and large green wings under her pale green arms. Her face had a green beak to it. Her dress was created from feathers and dark eggs were pinned to belts across her chest. Her torso had canary yellow on it and her legs were covered in golden boots with sharp hooks on the toes.
Her dark red eyes lit up as she bowed. 'I am Madam Birdrana how may I serve you?'
Her yellow talons flexed sharply and tapped the painting on the floor of a Medusa like head. 'Destroy this city with your children, and you will have prime roosting spots' smiled Necrosis. 'With your children running through the streets the Rangers will fall!'
"Yes Master" Birdrana rasped. "My children shall hatch and destroy the city easily!"
"Eggs-ellent" grinned Conjura. Necrosis groaned and put his head in his hand.
"Weak" he sighed.
The salsa music ran through the air as colourfully dressed people danced about and floats passed through the crowd. The rangers waved to Captain Mitchell in a booth on set above the crowd. He beckoned and they all filed up the stairs to meet him.
"Sera, you mentioned never finishing school" he said. 'I'd like you to meet Ms Byrd. She's the principal at Mariner Bay High"
Sera looked at the smiling woman dressed in a purple beehive and blue- feathered outfit. "Hello Sera I understand you may be interested in joining the school, if so I hope we can have a talk some time".
Captain Mitchell smiled as Sera shook hands, holding her coat closed. 'Umm... oh that sound nice" she said with a nervous swallow. "I...I amn't sure if I can go back to school...I...I was kicked out of my last one".
The jaws of the rangers, Ms Fairweather and the Captain dropped.
"And why was that?" Ms Byrd asked straightening her parrot mask.
"I...I kicked a-- umm...I judo flipped a girl in m-my year".
Ms Byrd looked at the Captain then at Sera. And then laughed. 'Well then you will definitely have to join our Judo team! We also have a fencing and athletics team. Chess Club, Young Entrepreneurs, Dance club, Drama club...'
'Wow' Sera said. 'Umm...sounds nice...very nice...'
'I hope you'll come' the woman said. 'Now, go enjoy the party with your friends! I have some things to run by the Captain. Care to dance captain?' she linked his arm and hauled him over to the wooden panel on the platform to dance.
Sera shifted uncomfortably. 'I can't go back to school, I'm a total social leper...'
Dana, Kelsey and Ms Fairweather crowded around her being reassuring as they led her to the street carnival. 'May I have this dance?'
Sera blinked and look at the 16 or 17-year-old boy. His hair was cut short but it was slightly wavy. His black Zorro mask covered his features but for the smooth skin around his cheeks and mouth. He was wearing a black and green Robin Hood outfit complete with quiver of arrows at his hip.
Sera was surprised. Dana poked her forwards. 'Of course she would' Dana smiled. Sera whirled and stared at Dana.
'I look like a slutty version of Helena from Dead or Alive I cannot dance with a guy dressed like this'
'Yes you can' Kelsey sighed and poked the girl forwards.
'I'm Noel' the boy grinned taking her hand gently. The vision struck.
((Eggs cracking and splitting then exploding into flame. The rangers pelted by feathers. The city crumbled and fell in on itself as strange winged shapes flew about over the rubble))
'Are you okay?' Noel asked. They were quite a distance from the Rangers and Sera found herself moving pretty close to the cute boy even if she wasn't sure about the dancing.
'Yeah' she said. 'So...you come her often?'
'Oh I just moved here from Ireland' Noel smiled.
'Me too' Sera said. 'So...uhh why did you ask me to dance?'
'Interesting person' he said. 'What's your name?'
'Sera'
Noel nodded slowly...and then the explosion happened. A girl dressed in a glittering show girl outfit complete with spangled tights and feathered headdress stood on a stage laughing, her hands on her hips and her eyes dancing with mirth. Sera was thrown as another detonated originating from somewhere in the parade knocking her away from Noel.
On float a boy dressed like some sort of iceman was throwing confetti into the air... the silver plates shone and sparked growing and trapping anything they touched in a tangle of silver.
The rangers but for Joel and Ms Fairweather walked down the road, laughing. Dana watched as Carter hit the milk bottles with the glitter coated baseball and handed her the stuffed pink lion.
'That's so sweet' Kelsey said stepping up beside Dana. 'He's being a dear...and you've only taken your eyes off his pectorals to glimpse his abs'.
'Kelsey be quite or this cat gets to scratch you to pieces' Dana said giving the clawed paw a wiggle at the Yellow Ranger...they heard the explosion. 'What was that?' Carter exclaimed.
'Bad news' Dana said.
They raced back up the road, Dana flung the lion up to her father who caught it and looked down at her with confusion on his face... about the lion. The panic was understandable of course.
The girl in pink and the boy in the blue ice costume stood in the centre of a clearing of the crowd. The float hat exploded, the feathers on it still filled the air. 'Tweet tweet rangers' the girl said. She transformed into Conjura while the boy became Desparion.
"Shall we begin?" Desparion laughed. He pointed his hand; the scrolls rocketed at the rangers.

LIGHTSPEED RESCUE!
The scrolls twisted around and snared Ryan and Kelsey, bashing them off each other with heavy sparks and light.
Conjura raised her mirror and examined her make-up. "Hmm, purple really is stylish but manageable" she muttered. And then she blasted them with a beam from her mirror. The purple bolt raked across the ground and sent a cloud of smoke whirling up at them.
The feathers filled the air dragging Kelsey and Carter up. They shot into the air and slammed off a wall. Ryan glanced around, the green and yellow bird form descended with a shriek.
"Hello rangers" Lady Birdrana purred. "I am Lady Birdrana, mother bird! Meet the family!" The egg landed before the rangers. It was a sickly green and humming faintly. Carter aimed at it.
"Don't!" exclaimed Dana. "It's a trap!"
The explosion went off knocking the Rangers straight upwards. They landed hard on the ground seconds later. Something moved from the epicentre of the blast. It was huge, long flat and wide arms of black and yellow feathers, green eyes and a hooked gold beak. The mane of raven feathers bristled and it shrieked.
"Oh look Rangers" Conjura said. "Just in time for the egg and spoon race!"
"Anything for an egg pun?" Necrosis smirked a he materialized from nowhere. "Now, Birdrana, head off and leave a few Easter Eggs for them..." He snapped his fingers and a card appeared. He hurled it into the air. "Leave the rangers to these fella's"
The Mortighasts appeared and leapt on the attack.
Sera dabbed the cut on the little girls head. She cast a glance at the teleporting sorcerers. "Damn them" she sobbed as she looked around for paramedics. "Don't worry," she whispered to the girl. "It's okay, you'll be fine".
She darted to a burned woman and grabbed a bottle of water from the ground near a stall. "Okay, it's okay" she breathed.
Sera poured the water onto a cloth and placed it on the woman's forehead. "I'll go get someone to see to the burn, try keep cool." She hurried towards the ambulances.
Kelsey attacked the Bird-baby and was flung down the street into a large float shaped like the sun and clouds. Ryan roared and slashed down with his axe. The Bird shrieked and Ryan grabbed the monster. "I've got him set up!" he shouted.
Kelsey charged up her Battelizer and leapt, her fist glowed and she slammed it into the creatures gut as she propelled herself through the air like a missile. Dana slashed a Mortibody then she and Carter stabbed out with their V-lancers. Joel and Chad surged forward and drove their batons down through the creature. It shrieked in agony, a blazing light-wave burst from its beak. Joel was flipped into the air by the bolt.
"Joel!" Ms Fairweather shouted from the corner. The creature turned on her, the orb glowing in its beak to fire again. Joel's roar of anger rang out, he stabbed out as his Mega Battle armour materialized and drove the spinning blade into the Bird creature.
It crashed down and burst into a cloud of feathers...with a sound like an outraged chicken?
"What was that thing?" Joel exclaimed.
"Not the worst of them" Ryan said. "The Momma Bird is out there, laying herself a new clutch of these things!"
Sera sat at the laptop. "See? Not a normal gal, normal gal's don't research demon's".
"Maybe, but you were dancing with a cute guy" Kelsey said pointedly.
"He probably had a bet going" sniffed Sera. "I've only had 2 boyfriends ever."
"Who?"
"Don't ask...one of them hurt me," Sera said faintly. She pointed to the screen. "Here's something! Birdrana and her Clutch. Birdrana originates from the tales of Sinbad, as the Roc, she lays her eggs in a populated place then they hatch...the demons overrun the place and have to be eliminated. Sadly it's not easy, they're strong and powerful as you saw tonight."
"Yup" groaned Chad rubbing his chest. The bird thing had stamped on him a few times. "I'll testify to that".
"I have a spell here to track the Clutch hatchlings, they will all hatch at the same time, and when they do..."
"The city gets eggs-tremely eggs-terminated?" Joel grinned.
"You're worse then Camilla" Sera muttered. She opened her satchel and pulled out a map. "Uhhh" she unfolded it and looked at the others. They took a hint and left.
"This is scary" Joel said. "She's doing spells as in hocus pocus!"
"Sera doesn't exactly jet around on a broom," Dana said. "I think she's a nice girl who needs a friendship."
"And it's different magic to the sorcerers" added Chad. "White magic"
"Yeahhhhhh" admitted Joel. Angela stood beside him, a lab coat over her Valkryie garb.
"It's helping us Joel, even if I never believed totally in witches before this is for certain!"
"GGGGGUUUUUUYYYYYYSSSSSSS" Sera shouted as she leapt from the room. She launched into a ramble: "Nests of Eggs! Four of them all over the city! One's still growing, that means that Birdrana is still lying there. If you destroy the eggs they explode but a double explosion will vacuum the flames out and contain the damage..."
"Okay sorry? Calm down and rewind" Dana said placing her dainty hands on Sera's shoulders.
"When the eggs hatch..." Sera gasped. "Mariner Bay will be over run by bestial demons! Because when the eggs hatch they explode and the demons can overtake in the confusion and panic!"
"I have just the thing," Ms Fairweather said. "The Rescue Charges.
"Sera, we need to set up the sites on the screen" Captain Mitchell had evidentially listening over the Aqua base systems. "Joel, you and Ryan in one team, Dana and Kelsey, Carter and Chad...we don't have much time."
"The first nest" Sera said. "Is under the Traders Market, on a major fault line. These explosions have to be precise, Dorian never failed a Geography exam."
Carter winced; it was unsettling how she referred to the sorcerers as her old friends, as human's...people with lives and families. He'd seen the news reports, the teen's families had found out about their children's megalomaniac-al intentions and pretty much hoping the rangers didn't kill them but did stop them. It must have been confusing for them.
He slid down the slope of concrete with Chad. The dripping pipes pierced the silence as they moved down the empty corridor of darkness. Nothing stirred even when they pushed in the rusted steel door...and found themselves over a wide pit filled with the pale green eggs.
"Wow...big omelette" Chad murmured.
Dana and Kelsey walked over the corrugated steel on the ground slowly. The plants access tunnels were hardly easy for stealth, the floors rattled terribly in the narrow routes. Dana drew her blaster.
"Shoot first drink latte later" Dana whispered.
"The power plant cannot blow up," stated Captain Mitchell...pushing the obvious to the forefront. "The chaos that would cause would be immeasurable".
"Ah, I thought so" Dana said. "Don't worry Dad, we know what we're doing"
"Just watch yourselves," whispered Captain Mitchell.
"We will" Dana said. She slid down a ladder and looked around.
"I love a good Egg hunt, don't you?" Kelsey grinned.
"Not in this context" admitted Dana. She pushed open the door and recoiled at the stench. "Oh God, talk about Bad eggs!"
Joel and Ryan abseiled the side of the dam.
"Be careful all of you," Angela said. "We don't know what sort of security's on the nests. And we have to hurry, Sera's researching a way to destroy any hatchlings quickly and in groups of two...but let's not hope we need it."
"Don't worry Ange," grinned Joel. "I'm gonna come out on top!"
Ryan swung into the ledge. "Oh brother" he grunted. He pushed open the door and whistled shrilly. "That is a lot of eggs," he gasped.
Carter and Chad stepped into the room. Blasters ready, charges in hands. They walked around the rusted old walkway slowly, getting their bearings as they tossed the explosives in. The two orbs set in a small mine shaped ball.
"Almost a waste" Chad said. "So many people like eggs. I like mine boiled."
"I always liked fried eggs" Carter smiled.
The bat like projectile hit the wall and exploded knocking the rangers back. Necrosis stood with a group of Mortighasts at the other side of the walkway. He waved politely. "I'm more of a scrambled man myself," he said. "So, troops... SCRAMBLE" he snapped.
Carter and Chad hurled the rest of the explosives in. Carter pulled the detonator from his belt...the bolt of lightening knocked it away. Necrosis raised his hands. "I don't think so" he sneered.
Chad and Carter grabbed a Mortighast each and spun as the bolts shot at them. The foot soldiers took the bolts and in a flash were no more. Necrosis leapt the gap and raised his hands, a sword of black shadow appeared. He landed and spun, slashing and stabbing.
Chad reached for the detonator. Necrosis kicked him to his feet and kicked him into the ribs, bashing him off the wall. Carter dived at the detonator. A chain coiled around his waist and slammed him into a wall.
Kelsey and Dana hurled the explosives into the nest of eggs.
"Hey, hey, hey, no fair!" Conjura exclaimed. "You guys don't get to win again!"
The wave of purple hit Kelsey, her suit glowed and magnetized her to the wall. Conjura pointed her hand mirror at Dana. The pink ranger cartwheeled aside and the bolt blasted a hole in the wall. Conjura snapped her fingers and a card appeared. She tossed it up and blasted it with her mirror. It burst into a rain of Mortighasts.
"Kill" she stated. The creatures stormed forth. Kelsey slashed out with her baton and knocked some away. She pulled at the detonator on her belt. It was magnetized in place...
"Dana! Help!" Kelsey shouted as she kicked a pawn aside and flipped over the next charge. "It's stuck to my belt!"
Conjura hurled a bolt at Dana. "Yes, I never had that planned" the witch sneered with a roll of her eyes.
Joel ducked instinctively. The slip of paper hit the wall blazing blue flame burst from it showering him in harmless sparks. Desparion stood on a walkway with two scripts in his hands. "Hey there rangers!" he grinned.
"They couldn't have had a dog? A small, cute, wiener-dog?" grimaced Joel.
Ryan fired his blaster. Desparion raised a blue-gloved hand, a scroll glowed before him. The blast was deflected. "Now that was pointless wasn't it?"
Joel hurled the bombs at the nest. "Ryan! The detonator!"
Ryan reached for his belt...Desparion leapt down on him grabbing the hand with the detonator in it. "No, No, No!" he sang. He flicked the card up and head butted Ryan as the card was snared by a scroll and turned into Mortighasts.
"Aw crumbs" Joel groaned.
---Chad grabbed the detonator and pressed down.
--- Dana gripped the detonator and hit the button
---Ryan shoved Desparion back and hit the button.
The explosions went off, the Rangers threw themselves away as the flames burst up but were sucked back. The vibrations in the earth shivered then halted, reversing into themselves. The smell of fried eggs filled the air.
"I'm suddenly in the mood for omelettes" Dana sighed as she lifted herself up.
"All the detonators activated, all the sites...egg-less" Angela Fairweather reported.
"YESS" Sera exclaimed and leapt, punching the air before noting her surroundings and started self-consciously composing herself. "Sorry."
"Rangers the next site, where you'll find Birdrana, is in the Marina. Inside a cruise ship it seems!" he exclaimed.
"On it" Carter reported.
"It's not that I'm a complicated half-demon" sighed Necrosis. "All I ever wanted was the acceptance and acknowledgement of my fellow man and of course their painful and cruel destruction as well..."
They stood with Birdrana on the bridge of the cruise ship. The captain was turned to stone, a look of surprise on his face. An officer who'd burst in the door had gazed straight into the snake framed mirror of Conjura and been turned into a doorstop.
"The rangers might be here soon," Desparion said. "We should be ready, if we get too close to water our powers will fail." He was wearing his high collared, wide sleeved blue coat over his usual outfit and toying with one of the buttons. "Eventually, we're still gathering them to their full extent."
"Well we can't embrace our demonic sides and expect it to all fall into place, now, can we?" sighed Conjura as she adjusted the long purple jacket she wore with the medusa head buttons up one side and high spider-webbed collar.
"Quiet" snapped Necrosis. "I can hear them..."
The Rangers rushed up the board onto the ocean liner. "We have to head down" Kelsey said. She held up the bag of detonators and bombs. All the rangers removed the detonators and nodded.
"Well I can help there," Necrosis said with a laugh. "But I'm thinking—less, this ship's hold and more...STRAIGHT TO HELL!"
He blasted a wave of black and green from his staff. "Tell Satan Necrosis sent you".
The rangers shot upwards and crashed down on the deck. "Birdrana! DEAL WITH THEM!" exclaimed Desparion.
"As you wish!" cackled the bird being as she descended on the air and slashed with her wings. Joel fired his blaster but she easily glided aside and flapped her arms, the feathers lifted him up and away in a cloud of sparks. "Don't be so DOWN rangers" she cackled.
"Hey Polly want a pummelling?" Chad exclaimed as he swiped down with the V- lancer. She caught it in her talons and shrieked: the sonic blast flipped him over. She took off again, spinning rapidly and ploughing through Carter and Ryan's attack.
She grabbed Kelsey and rose upwards before dropping the struggling Yellow ranger straight down. Dana fired with her blaster but the bird Demon avoided too easily and swerved down and in.
The small eggs exploded on the ground and hit her with slime that paralysed her limbs. "Eggs-treme" guffawed Birdrana. "My neuro-stun eggs will keep you out."
Dana felt the toxin in her system slow her body to a snails crawl. She couldn't even think that well...she could see perfectly. Birdrana picking up Carter by the throat and holding him out over the gap into the lower level where the Eggs were. And then the red light quivered along her body, cracking the slime.
"So long Red Ranger" smirked Birdrana. "Eggs-pect Eggs-sessive pain!"
"I've had just about enough of you," a voice snapped.
Birdrana spun...the charged punch from Dana connected and knocked Carter from her grip. She shot backwards into the crates nearby. Carter looked at Dana with a nod. "Time to blow this party" he said as he dive-rolled along the ground and grabbed the bag of charges and hurled them into the hold.
"NOOOOOO! My babies!" shrieked Birdrana as the boat gave a shudder and groan with the reversed explosion.
She turned on the rangers and hurled the hail of feathers at them. Chad hit the code into his battle booster. The ice cannon blasted out and froze the feathers in air. "Chill bird, it's time you flew south!" he said sharply.
"I'm going to fly all of you STRAIGHT DOWN" Birdrana roared. She flapped her wings; the gust knocked them all over. She leapt into the air...
"Here! Catch!" Ryan shouted as his battle-axe spun through the air and hit her in the wing. She fell. "Take it from here guys!" Ryan called.
"On it" Carter said. "Rescue Bird!"
"Oh the irony" groaned Necrosis from the demons viewing mirror in their castle. "A rescue bird...like they did this by accident!"
Birdrana exploded vividly on the screen. "Too bad, so sad" Conjura said. "I'll take this one darlings".
She appeared above the rangers and checked her make-up in the mirror. "Hmm this was annoying," she said looking at the blank card in the black spot on the deck. "Oh well, Birdrana needs to grow and get over this corny death thing."
She held the mirror out and the purple light gathered in on it swirling into the glass.
Demon bird who flew before
Rise again and glide once more!
The purple bolt lifted the card into the air and spun it around in bands of magenta light. "Here's looking at you rangers!" shrilled Conjura as she disappeared in a cloud of purple ether.
"This looks bad," groaned Joel.
"Oh ye of little faith" Ms Fairweather grinned. "I was wondering when this would happen!"
"These things are never that easy," agreed Sera.
"Rail Rescues on Line...I hope" Ms Fairweather gulped as she hit the button.
Birdrana shot upwards into the air and spun into a tornado of feathers. Inadvertently this gave the Megazord time to assemble.
"Brace yourselves" Carter said firmly.
"Here we go" Kelsey squeaked as the feather hurricane hit them. It lifted the zord up and dropped it even harder. Birdrana darted forwards and slashed down twice.
"That hurt" Joel reported. "Torso plating down by 11%...hey it was already down by 5%?"
"I never said it was perfect" Angela snapped.
"I never said anything negative!" yelped Joel.
"Put him in the doghouse later" Dana said. "We have a bird with wings due for a clip!"
"Rangers! Birdrana's arms and beak are the sources of her power, try stop them from moving!" Captain Mitchell exclaimed.
"On it!" Carter nodded as he hit the controls. The ice missiles fired. They exploded on the Demon's arms freezing them solid. "Now for that ugly face!" Carter exclaimed.
"Leave that to me!" Dana grinned. She tapped the keys before her and sent a wave of light shooting from the Zords head. It hit Birdrana dead in the throat. "Wow, that's new! I knew we didn't have that option before!"
"Well why rebuild and not improve?" Ms Fairweather giggled.
Birdrana crashed down before the zord, landing on her knees.
"I think we all know what to do now," Chad said.
The blast of missiles and golden haze of the turbine cannon caught Birdrana and destroyed her. Completely.
"Conjura" Necrosis sighed. "Take a note for me, would you? My pet cause for this week is: Exterminate the Rangers"
He sighed and sat back on his throne. The others sat in theirs. He stared at the mirror of the zord standing over the defeated Birdrana. "I have an idea," he said. "Quick! To the library"
The three darted from the room humming the tune to the Technicolor Batman series.
"Sera said she had a surprise and an announcement," Kelsey said. "So what could it be?" She and Ryan entered the canteen.
"Hey everyone!" Sera said from behind the counter. Captain Mitchell and Ms Fairweather were seated around a table with Chad and Dana. Joel was at the canteen counter waiting.
"Where's Carter?" asked Sera.
"I think he's trying to find the pictures I took of him at the carnival" smiled Dana. "And threatened to post on his very own website..."
"Dana!" her father said in a warning tone.
"It's a joke," laughed Dana hugging her father. "He's just checking in with the fire chief about the damages".
Carter came in the door with a smile. "No bad news" he said. "Minor injuries mostly and no fatalities".
"That's good" Sera said. "Well you guys wondered why I asked you to come here... I wanted to tell you: I've decided to go back to school."
"That's great" Dana smiled. The others gave their opinions (all positive of course.)
"Yeah" Sera smiled. "Ms Byrd said I have the go ahead to start next week! And here's the rest of my surprise..." she reached down and lifted the plates. "Eggs Benedict!"
The group groan practically shuddered the doors.
NEXT TIME: The rangers face a deadly foe! A demon that can control peoples minds. When he gets his hooks into Chad and Ryan's minds the rangers are in serious trouble! Sera gets a vision that no one will believe! Chad letting in the demons!
AND: Kelsey's sister Gale drops by to see her sister who's tricked Ryan into saying he's her fiancé. This cannot be good...well for the rangers at least (Evil Author cackle here).

Episode 3: Hatching Plans
Colourful decorations hung between buildings of Mariner Bay. Joel, Kelsey and Ryan hefted the heavy boxes towards the Rescue Rover. "I can't believe Captain Mitchell's letting us really decorate the Aquabase!" exclaimed Kelsey.
"Well the tunnels are up, the demons have been lying low and Dana aced her last test" smiled Joel. "Plus Sera didn't get the whole Easter Parade."
"And he gave her the "it stands for peace" speech" Ryan laughed. "I'm driving".
"I call shotgun!" Kelsey yelled. The Rover took off leaving a trail of crêpe paper to drift to the purple high-heel boots of a familiar woman.
"The Easter Parade is to celebrate the Founding of Mariner Bay" Captain Mitchell explained to Sera. "It's a fun time for everyone." They walked down the hall. "Just take a look". He opened the door to the cafeteria, the colourful springtime decorations hung from the ceiling and baskets with chocolate eggs sat on the tables.
"See?" Captain Mitchell grinned.
"Wow" Sera exclaimed. "It looks great!"
"Call it a celebration that you're part of the team" Dana said popping up from behind the counter in a pair of pink bunny ears and a tight pink business suit with the playboy bunny logo on it. Kelsey appeared from behind a table in a yellow suit with feathers on it. "Yeah, have a little fun with us!" Kelsey chirped. "The Carnival is tonight and we're dressed like it's the Mardi Gras!"
"The boys are getting changed," added Dana to her father.
"Dana Mitchell you're not leaving this place wearing those clothes!" the Captain intoned. Dana felt five again and looked down at the figure- hugging outfit with its sequined lapels and cuffs and shimmering sling backs. "Come on Daddy, It's the Carnival! You know all the town will be there!"
Sera glanced at Dana. She put her glasses on and blinked. "All the town?"
"Shush Dana!" squeaked Kelsey Theatrically as she put the huge plume of feathers on her head. "Don't give Sera a reason to fret".
"Its perfect for Nick...rosis to attack" Sera said. "He loves irony". She shivered. "A celebration of peace and laughter? He'd been nuts to turn it down!"
"We'll take our morphers" Dana reassured. "Now, come on! We picked out an outfit for you!"
"Are you coming Captain Mitchell?" asked Ms Fairweather as the women headed for the doors.
"Yes, but I'll be with the Mayor in his booth. The rangers all decided to remain out of the limelight."
"Oh yes" Ms Fairweather nodded. "I turned the good Mayor down on her invite."
'I feel like Mr January!' grated Carter from behind the console. "I'm not going!"
"Oh get over it!" snorted Chad. He was dressed in a shimmering white sailor suit with sequined blue on it. "It's just a bit of fun!"
Joel adjusted his Cowboy hat and grinned toothily. "Well I look suave," he said as he shifted his black sequined dotted suit to be more comfortable. "Like a proper Cowboy!"
"And a Vegas one" grinned Ryan. Joel stuck his tongue out at the young man wearing a very loose flouncing white shirt and beige slacks with red zigzags up the sides and a sash covered in fake rubies. He held a rapier in a sheath that he was trying to attach to his belt.
Carter's head poked up from behind the console so everything above his nose was visible. "Well you guys have fun!"
Dana entered in her tight and rather revealing pink suit. Carter shot up, exposing his costume. Dana stared at him for a second. "Who got you that?" she gasped in surprise.
"Ryan and Joel" grimaced Carter. He was wearing a heavy fireman's jacket decorated with sequined leaf plates and a pair of too-tight yellow vinyl trousers terminating in heavy black boots. He was also minus a shirt it seemed and trying to hold his decorated helmet and keep the jacket shut at the same time. "Any of the others from the firehouse see this and I will never live it down!"
Ms Fairweather appeared with Kelsey. Ms Fairweather wore a silver and gold breastplate, a pearl white leather dress covered with ivory coloured strips from the breastplate and a winged helmet. She tugged at the silver boots and smiled. 'Well?"
'Pick your jaw up Joel" Ryan hissed. Joel shut his mouth and kept staring.
"Come on Sera" Ms Fairweather called down the hall. Seconds later she appeared. She still wore her glasses but she was dressed in a high collared dark blue coat with glittering embroidery. It had long tails and wide sleeves; it resembled faintly a toy soldier's coat or something from the opera. She had shimmering lace at her throat and white gloves. Her dark blue trousers were shiny of course and her buccaneer boots were made of dark velvet. Her hair was still pinned up but the hairpins were stylish beaded ones that jangled as they swung.
'T-This isn't me' she laughed covering her face.
'The best part about Carnival...' Dana said. 'Is that you can dress odd and wear a mask!'
She put the small sequined pink mask to her face so it covered her eyes. 'See?'
Kelsey put her yellow-feathered one on; Ms Fairweather fitted her pointed ivory and pearl covered one to her face. Sera put the pearl band on so the dark blue veil covered her face. Carter was only too happy to tie on his red band of material. Joel gleefully declared "Hi HO SILVER" as he donned his own white mask like the lone rangers and Chad slipped the sea-patterned mask over his eyes and nose.
Ryan grabbed a tub from the desk to his left. 'Finishing touch' he said as he tabbed a small brush in it and painted a curling moustache on and tied the bandana mask to his face. 'Well?'
'Your moustache is running' Kelsey snickered.
"Easter Parade" Conjura stated as they stood at her large full-length mirror. In the midst of the swirling tortured souls a vision of colourful floats and dancing people became visible. "How...Technicolor"
"They celebrate peace and laughter...and a rabbit with an egg addiction," snorted Desparion. "How human".
"What a pathetic custom" yawned Conjura. "We never had it back home in Ireland... this was a St Patrick's Day type thing"
Necrosis strode forwards. "I have an idea," he said. He drew a card and showed it to his comrades in evil. "Well if the people like a celebration of eggs...wait until they see what this one Hatches!" sneered Necrosis.
"Delicious" whispered Conjura.
Necrosis hurled the card into the air and spun his staff before him. He spun around holding the staff near the end as he whirled it and stabbed into the card.
I summon the terror mother bird
Bring her forth at my WORD!
The card exploded into a cloud of dark green feathers. They fluttered about and created hurricane. In a flash a shape had appeared. Apparently female with a slender form and large green wings under her pale green arms. Her face had a green beak to it. Her dress was created from feathers and dark eggs were pinned to belts across her chest. Her torso had canary yellow on it and her legs were covered in golden boots with sharp hooks on the toes.
Her dark red eyes lit up as she bowed. 'I am Madam Birdrana how may I serve you?'
Her yellow talons flexed sharply and tapped the painting on the floor of a Medusa like head. 'Destroy this city with your children, and you will have prime roosting spots' smiled Necrosis. 'With your children running through the streets the Rangers will fall!'
"Yes Master" Birdrana rasped. "My children shall hatch and destroy the city easily!"
"Eggs-ellent" grinned Conjura. Necrosis groaned and put his head in his hand.
"Weak" he sighed.
The salsa music ran through the air as colourfully dressed people danced about and floats passed through the crowd. The rangers waved to Captain Mitchell in a booth on set above the crowd. He beckoned and they all filed up the stairs to meet him.
"Sera, you mentioned never finishing school" he said. 'I'd like you to meet Ms Byrd. She's the principal at Mariner Bay High"
Sera looked at the smiling woman dressed in a purple beehive and blue- feathered outfit. "Hello Sera I understand you may be interested in joining the school, if so I hope we can have a talk some time".
Captain Mitchell smiled as Sera shook hands, holding her coat closed. 'Umm... oh that sound nice" she said with a nervous swallow. "I...I amn't sure if I can go back to school...I...I was kicked out of my last one".
The jaws of the rangers, Ms Fairweather and the Captain dropped.
"And why was that?" Ms Byrd asked straightening her parrot mask.
"I...I kicked a-- umm...I judo flipped a girl in m-my year".
Ms Byrd looked at the Captain then at Sera. And then laughed. 'Well then you will definitely have to join our Judo team! We also have a fencing and athletics team. Chess Club, Young Entrepreneurs, Dance club, Drama club...'
'Wow' Sera said. 'Umm...sounds nice...very nice...'
'I hope you'll come' the woman said. 'Now, go enjoy the party with your friends! I have some things to run by the Captain. Care to dance captain?' she linked his arm and hauled him over to the wooden panel on the platform to dance.
Sera shifted uncomfortably. 'I can't go back to school, I'm a total social leper...'
Dana, Kelsey and Ms Fairweather crowded around her being reassuring as they led her to the street carnival. 'May I have this dance?'
Sera blinked and look at the 16 or 17-year-old boy. His hair was cut short but it was slightly wavy. His black Zorro mask covered his features but for the smooth skin around his cheeks and mouth. He was wearing a black and green Robin Hood outfit complete with quiver of arrows at his hip.
Sera was surprised. Dana poked her forwards. 'Of course she would' Dana smiled. Sera whirled and stared at Dana.
'I look like a slutty version of Helena from Dead or Alive I cannot dance with a guy dressed like this'
'Yes you can' Kelsey sighed and poked the girl forwards.
'I'm Noel' the boy grinned taking her hand gently. The vision struck.
((Eggs cracking and splitting then exploding into flame. The rangers pelted by feathers. The city crumbled and fell in on itself as strange winged shapes flew about over the rubble))
'Are you okay?' Noel asked. They were quite a distance from the Rangers and Sera found herself moving pretty close to the cute boy even if she wasn't sure about the dancing.
'Yeah' she said. 'So...you come her often?'
'Oh I just moved here from Ireland' Noel smiled.
'Me too' Sera said. 'So...uhh why did you ask me to dance?'
'Interesting person' he said. 'What's your name?'
'Sera'
Noel nodded slowly...and then the explosion happened. A girl dressed in a glittering show girl outfit complete with spangled tights and feathered headdress stood on a stage laughing, her hands on her hips and her eyes dancing with mirth. Sera was thrown as another detonated originating from somewhere in the parade knocking her away from Noel.
On float a boy dressed like some sort of iceman was throwing confetti into the air... the silver plates shone and sparked growing and trapping anything they touched in a tangle of silver.
The rangers but for Joel and Ms Fairweather walked down the road, laughing. Dana watched as Carter hit the milk bottles with the glitter coated baseball and handed her the stuffed pink lion.
'That's so sweet' Kelsey said stepping up beside Dana. 'He's being a dear...and you've only taken your eyes off his pectorals to glimpse his abs'.
'Kelsey be quite or this cat gets to scratch you to pieces' Dana said giving the clawed paw a wiggle at the Yellow Ranger...they heard the explosion. 'What was that?' Carter exclaimed.
'Bad news' Dana said.
They raced back up the road, Dana flung the lion up to her father who caught it and looked down at her with confusion on his face... about the lion. The panic was understandable of course.
The girl in pink and the boy in the blue ice costume stood in the centre of a clearing of the crowd. The float hat exploded, the feathers on it still filled the air. 'Tweet tweet rangers' the girl said. She transformed into Conjura while the boy became Desparion.
"Shall we begin?" Desparion laughed. He pointed his hand; the scrolls rocketed at the rangers.

LIGHTSPEED RESCUE!
The scrolls twisted around and snared Ryan and Kelsey, bashing them off each other with heavy sparks and light.
Conjura raised her mirror and examined her make-up. "Hmm, purple really is stylish but manageable" she muttered. And then she blasted them with a beam from her mirror. The purple bolt raked across the ground and sent a cloud of smoke whirling up at them.
The feathers filled the air dragging Kelsey and Carter up. They shot into the air and slammed off a wall. Ryan glanced around, the green and yellow bird form descended with a shriek.
"Hello rangers" Lady Birdrana purred. "I am Lady Birdrana, mother bird! Meet the family!" The egg landed before the rangers. It was a sickly green and humming faintly. Carter aimed at it.
"Don't!" exclaimed Dana. "It's a trap!"
The explosion went off knocking the Rangers straight upwards. They landed hard on the ground seconds later. Something moved from the epicentre of the blast. It was huge, long flat and wide arms of black and yellow feathers, green eyes and a hooked gold beak. The mane of raven feathers bristled and it shrieked.
"Oh look Rangers" Conjura said. "Just in time for the egg and spoon race!"
"Anything for an egg pun?" Necrosis smirked a he materialized from nowhere. "Now, Birdrana, head off and leave a few Easter Eggs for them..." He snapped his fingers and a card appeared. He hurled it into the air. "Leave the rangers to these fella's"
The Mortighasts appeared and leapt on the attack.
Sera dabbed the cut on the little girls head. She cast a glance at the teleporting sorcerers. "Damn them" she sobbed as she looked around for paramedics. "Don't worry," she whispered to the girl. "It's okay, you'll be fine".
She darted to a burned woman and grabbed a bottle of water from the ground near a stall. "Okay, it's okay" she breathed.
Sera poured the water onto a cloth and placed it on the woman's forehead. "I'll go get someone to see to the burn, try keep cool." She hurried towards the ambulances.
Kelsey attacked the Bird-baby and was flung down the street into a large float shaped like the sun and clouds. Ryan roared and slashed down with his axe. The Bird shrieked and Ryan grabbed the monster. "I've got him set up!" he shouted.
Kelsey charged up her Battelizer and leapt, her fist glowed and she slammed it into the creatures gut as she propelled herself through the air like a missile. Dana slashed a Mortibody then she and Carter stabbed out with their V-lancers. Joel and Chad surged forward and drove their batons down through the creature. It shrieked in agony, a blazing light-wave burst from its beak. Joel was flipped into the air by the bolt.
"Joel!" Ms Fairweather shouted from the corner. The creature turned on her, the orb glowing in its beak to fire again. Joel's roar of anger rang out, he stabbed out as his Mega Battle armour materialized and drove the spinning blade into the Bird creature.
It crashed down and burst into a cloud of feathers...with a sound like an outraged chicken?
"What was that thing?" Joel exclaimed.
"Not the worst of them" Ryan said. "The Momma Bird is out there, laying herself a new clutch of these things!"
Sera sat at the laptop. "See? Not a normal gal, normal gal's don't research demon's".
"Maybe, but you were dancing with a cute guy" Kelsey said pointedly.
"He probably had a bet going" sniffed Sera. "I've only had 2 boyfriends ever."
"Who?"
"Don't ask...one of them hurt me," Sera said faintly. She pointed to the screen. "Here's something! Birdrana and her Clutch. Birdrana originates from the tales of Sinbad, as the Roc, she lays her eggs in a populated place then they hatch...the demons overrun the place and have to be eliminated. Sadly it's not easy, they're strong and powerful as you saw tonight."
"Yup" groaned Chad rubbing his chest. The bird thing had stamped on him a few times. "I'll testify to that".
"I have a spell here to track the Clutch hatchlings, they will all hatch at the same time, and when they do..."
"The city gets eggs-tremely eggs-terminated?" Joel grinned.
"You're worse then Camilla" Sera muttered. She opened her satchel and pulled out a map. "Uhhh" she unfolded it and looked at the others. They took a hint and left.
"This is scary" Joel said. "She's doing spells as in hocus pocus!"
"Sera doesn't exactly jet around on a broom," Dana said. "I think she's a nice girl who needs a friendship."
"And it's different magic to the sorcerers" added Chad. "White magic"
"Yeahhhhhh" admitted Joel. Angela stood beside him, a lab coat over her Valkryie garb.
"It's helping us Joel, even if I never believed totally in witches before this is for certain!"
"GGGGGUUUUUUYYYYYYSSSSSSS" Sera shouted as she leapt from the room. She launched into a ramble: "Nests of Eggs! Four of them all over the city! One's still growing, that means that Birdrana is still lying there. If you destroy the eggs they explode but a double explosion will vacuum the flames out and contain the damage..."
"Okay sorry? Calm down and rewind" Dana said placing her dainty hands on Sera's shoulders.
"When the eggs hatch..." Sera gasped. "Mariner Bay will be over run by bestial demons! Because when the eggs hatch they explode and the demons can overtake in the confusion and panic!"
"I have just the thing," Ms Fairweather said. "The Rescue Charges.
"Sera, we need to set up the sites on the screen" Captain Mitchell had evidentially listening over the Aqua base systems. "Joel, you and Ryan in one team, Dana and Kelsey, Carter and Chad...we don't have much time."
"The first nest" Sera said. "Is under the Traders Market, on a major fault line. These explosions have to be precise, Dorian never failed a Geography exam."
Carter winced; it was unsettling how she referred to the sorcerers as her old friends, as human's...people with lives and families. He'd seen the news reports, the teen's families had found out about their children's megalomaniac-al intentions and pretty much hoping the rangers didn't kill them but did stop them. It must have been confusing for them.
He slid down the slope of concrete with Chad. The dripping pipes pierced the silence as they moved down the empty corridor of darkness. Nothing stirred even when they pushed in the rusted steel door...and found themselves over a wide pit filled with the pale green eggs.
"Wow...big omelette" Chad murmured.
Dana and Kelsey walked over the corrugated steel on the ground slowly. The plants access tunnels were hardly easy for stealth, the floors rattled terribly in the narrow routes. Dana drew her blaster.
"Shoot first drink latte later" Dana whispered.
"The power plant cannot blow up," stated Captain Mitchell...pushing the obvious to the forefront. "The chaos that would cause would be immeasurable".
"Ah, I thought so" Dana said. "Don't worry Dad, we know what we're doing"
"Just watch yourselves," whispered Captain Mitchell.
"We will" Dana said. She slid down a ladder and looked around.
"I love a good Egg hunt, don't you?" Kelsey grinned.
"Not in this context" admitted Dana. She pushed open the door and recoiled at the stench. "Oh God, talk about Bad eggs!"
Joel and Ryan abseiled the side of the dam.
"Be careful all of you," Angela said. "We don't know what sort of security's on the nests. And we have to hurry, Sera's researching a way to destroy any hatchlings quickly and in groups of two...but let's not hope we need it."
"Don't worry Ange," grinned Joel. "I'm gonna come out on top!"
Ryan swung into the ledge. "Oh brother" he grunted. He pushed open the door and whistled shrilly. "That is a lot of eggs," he gasped.
Carter and Chad stepped into the room. Blasters ready, charges in hands. They walked around the rusted old walkway slowly, getting their bearings as they tossed the explosives in. The two orbs set in a small mine shaped ball.
"Almost a waste" Chad said. "So many people like eggs. I like mine boiled."
"I always liked fried eggs" Carter smiled.
The bat like projectile hit the wall and exploded knocking the rangers back. Necrosis stood with a group of Mortighasts at the other side of the walkway. He waved politely. "I'm more of a scrambled man myself," he said. "So, troops... SCRAMBLE" he snapped.
Carter and Chad hurled the rest of the explosives in. Carter pulled the detonator from his belt...the bolt of lightening knocked it away. Necrosis raised his hands. "I don't think so" he sneered.
Chad and Carter grabbed a Mortighast each and spun as the bolts shot at them. The foot soldiers took the bolts and in a flash were no more. Necrosis leapt the gap and raised his hands, a sword of black shadow appeared. He landed and spun, slashing and stabbing.
Chad reached for the detonator. Necrosis kicked him to his feet and kicked him into the ribs, bashing him off the wall. Carter dived at the detonator. A chain coiled around his waist and slammed him into a wall.
Kelsey and Dana hurled the explosives into the nest of eggs.
"Hey, hey, hey, no fair!" Conjura exclaimed. "You guys don't get to win again!"
The wave of purple hit Kelsey, her suit glowed and magnetized her to the wall. Conjura pointed her hand mirror at Dana. The pink ranger cartwheeled aside and the bolt blasted a hole in the wall. Conjura snapped her fingers and a card appeared. She tossed it up and blasted it with her mirror. It burst into a rain of Mortighasts.
"Kill" she stated. The creatures stormed forth. Kelsey slashed out with her baton and knocked some away. She pulled at the detonator on her belt. It was magnetized in place...
"Dana! Help!" Kelsey shouted as she kicked a pawn aside and flipped over the next charge. "It's stuck to my belt!"
Conjura hurled a bolt at Dana. "Yes, I never had that planned" the witch sneered with a roll of her eyes.
Joel ducked instinctively. The slip of paper hit the wall blazing blue flame burst from it showering him in harmless sparks. Desparion stood on a walkway with two scripts in his hands. "Hey there rangers!" he grinned.
"They couldn't have had a dog? A small, cute, wiener-dog?" grimaced Joel.
Ryan fired his blaster. Desparion raised a blue-gloved hand, a scroll glowed before him. The blast was deflected. "Now that was pointless wasn't it?"
Joel hurled the bombs at the nest. "Ryan! The detonator!"
Ryan reached for his belt...Desparion leapt down on him grabbing the hand with the detonator in it. "No, No, No!" he sang. He flicked the card up and head butted Ryan as the card was snared by a scroll and turned into Mortighasts.
"Aw crumbs" Joel groaned.
---Chad grabbed the detonator and pressed down.
--- Dana gripped the detonator and hit the button
---Ryan shoved Desparion back and hit the button.
The explosions went off, the Rangers threw themselves away as the flames burst up but were sucked back. The vibrations in the earth shivered then halted, reversing into themselves. The smell of fried eggs filled the air.
"I'm suddenly in the mood for omelettes" Dana sighed as she lifted herself up.
"All the detonators activated, all the sites...egg-less" Angela Fairweather reported.
"YESS" Sera exclaimed and leapt, punching the air before noting her surroundings and started self-consciously composing herself. "Sorry."
"Rangers the next site, where you'll find Birdrana, is in the Marina. Inside a cruise ship it seems!" he exclaimed.
"On it" Carter reported.
"It's not that I'm a complicated half-demon" sighed Necrosis. "All I ever wanted was the acceptance and acknowledgement of my fellow man and of course their painful and cruel destruction as well..."
They stood with Birdrana on the bridge of the cruise ship. The captain was turned to stone, a look of surprise on his face. An officer who'd burst in the door had gazed straight into the snake framed mirror of Conjura and been turned into a doorstop.
"The rangers might be here soon," Desparion said. "We should be ready, if we get too close to water our powers will fail." He was wearing his high collared, wide sleeved blue coat over his usual outfit and toying with one of the buttons. "Eventually, we're still gathering them to their full extent."
"Well we can't embrace our demonic sides and expect it to all fall into place, now, can we?" sighed Conjura as she adjusted the long purple jacket she wore with the medusa head buttons up one side and high spider-webbed collar.
"Quiet" snapped Necrosis. "I can hear them..."
The Rangers rushed up the board onto the ocean liner. "We have to head down" Kelsey said. She held up the bag of detonators and bombs. All the rangers removed the detonators and nodded.
"Well I can help there," Necrosis said with a laugh. "But I'm thinking—less, this ship's hold and more...STRAIGHT TO HELL!"
He blasted a wave of black and green from his staff. "Tell Satan Necrosis sent you".
The rangers shot upwards and crashed down on the deck. "Birdrana! DEAL WITH THEM!" exclaimed Desparion.
"As you wish!" cackled the bird being as she descended on the air and slashed with her wings. Joel fired his blaster but she easily glided aside and flapped her arms, the feathers lifted him up and away in a cloud of sparks. "Don't be so DOWN rangers" she cackled.
"Hey Polly want a pummelling?" Chad exclaimed as he swiped down with the V- lancer. She caught it in her talons and shrieked: the sonic blast flipped him over. She took off again, spinning rapidly and ploughing through Carter and Ryan's attack.
She grabbed Kelsey and rose upwards before dropping the struggling Yellow ranger straight down. Dana fired with her blaster but the bird Demon avoided too easily and swerved down and in.
The small eggs exploded on the ground and hit her with slime that paralysed her limbs. "Eggs-treme" guffawed Birdrana. "My neuro-stun eggs will keep you out."
Dana felt the toxin in her system slow her body to a snails crawl. She couldn't even think that well...she could see perfectly. Birdrana picking up Carter by the throat and holding him out over the gap into the lower level where the Eggs were. And then the red light quivered along her body, cracking the slime.
"So long Red Ranger" smirked Birdrana. "Eggs-pect Eggs-sessive pain!"
"I've had just about enough of you," a voice snapped.
Birdrana spun...the charged punch from Dana connected and knocked Carter from her grip. She shot backwards into the crates nearby. Carter looked at Dana with a nod. "Time to blow this party" he said as he dive-rolled along the ground and grabbed the bag of charges and hurled them into the hold.
"NOOOOOO! My babies!" shrieked Birdrana as the boat gave a shudder and groan with the reversed explosion.
She turned on the rangers and hurled the hail of feathers at them. Chad hit the code into his battle booster. The ice cannon blasted out and froze the feathers in air. "Chill bird, it's time you flew south!" he said sharply.
"I'm going to fly all of you STRAIGHT DOWN" Birdrana roared. She flapped her wings; the gust knocked them all over. She leapt into the air...
"Here! Catch!" Ryan shouted as his battle-axe spun through the air and hit her in the wing. She fell. "Take it from here guys!" Ryan called.
"On it" Carter said. "Rescue Bird!"
"Oh the irony" groaned Necrosis from the demons viewing mirror in their castle. "A rescue bird...like they did this by accident!"
Birdrana exploded vividly on the screen. "Too bad, so sad" Conjura said. "I'll take this one darlings".
She appeared above the rangers and checked her make-up in the mirror. "Hmm this was annoying," she said looking at the blank card in the black spot on the deck. "Oh well, Birdrana needs to grow and get over this corny death thing."
She held the mirror out and the purple light gathered in on it swirling into the glass.

Rise again and glide once more!
The purple bolt lifted the card into the air and spun it around in bands of magenta light. "Here's looking at you rangers!" shrilled Conjura as she disappeared in a cloud of purple ether.
"This looks bad," groaned Joel.
"Oh ye of little faith" Ms Fairweather grinned. "I was wondering when this would happen!"
"These things are never that easy," agreed Sera.
"Rail Rescues on Line...I hope" Ms Fairweather gulped as she hit the button.
Birdrana shot upwards into the air and spun into a tornado of feathers. Inadvertently this gave the Megazord time to assemble.
"Brace yourselves" Carter said firmly.
"Here we go" Kelsey squeaked as the feather hurricane hit them. It lifted the zord up and dropped it even harder. Birdrana darted forwards and slashed down twice.
"That hurt" Joel reported. "Torso plating down by 11%...hey it was already down by 5%?"
"I never said it was perfect" Angela snapped.
"I never said anything negative!" yelped Joel.
"Put him in the doghouse later" Dana said. "We have a bird with wings due for a clip!"
"Rangers! Birdrana's arms and beak are the sources of her power, try stop them from moving!" Captain Mitchell exclaimed.
"On it!" Carter nodded as he hit the controls. The ice missiles fired. They exploded on the Demon's arms freezing them solid. "Now for that ugly face!" Carter exclaimed.
"Leave that to me!" Dana grinned. She tapped the keys before her and sent a wave of light shooting from the Zords head. It hit Birdrana dead in the throat. "Wow, that's new! I knew we didn't have that option before!"
"Well why rebuild and not improve?" Ms Fairweather giggled.
Birdrana crashed down before the zord, landing on her knees.
"I think we all know what to do now," Chad said.
The blast of missiles and golden haze of the turbine cannon caught Birdrana and destroyed her. Completely.
"Conjura" Necrosis sighed. "Take a note for me, would you? My pet cause for this week is: Exterminate the Rangers"
He sighed and sat back on his throne. The others sat in theirs. He stared at the mirror of the zord standing over the defeated Birdrana. "I have an idea," he said. "Quick! To the library"
The three darted from the room humming the tune to the Technicolor Batman series.
"Sera said she had a surprise and an announcement," Kelsey said. "So what could it be?" She and Ryan entered the canteen.
"Hey everyone!" Sera said from behind the counter. Captain Mitchell and Ms Fairweather were seated around a table with Chad and Dana. Joel was at the canteen counter waiting.
"Where's Carter?" asked Sera.
"I think he's trying to find the pictures I took of him at the carnival" smiled Dana. "And threatened to post on his very own website..."
"Dana!" her father said in a warning tone.
"It's a joke," laughed Dana hugging her father. "He's just checking in with the fire chief about the damages".
Carter came in the door with a smile. "No bad news" he said. "Minor injuries mostly and no fatalities".
"That's good" Sera said. "Well you guys wondered why I asked you to come here... I wanted to tell you: I've decided to go back to school."
"That's great" Dana smiled. The others gave their opinions (all positive of course.)
"Yeah" Sera smiled. "Ms Byrd said I have the go ahead to start next week! And here's the rest of my surprise..." she reached down and lifted the plates. "Eggs Benedict!"
The group groan practically shuddered the doors.
NEXT TIME: The rangers face a deadly foe! A demon that can control peoples minds. When he gets his hooks into Chad and Ryan's minds the rangers are in serious trouble! Sera gets a vision that no one will believe! Chad letting in the demons!
AND: Kelsey's sister Gale drops by to see her sister who's tricked Ryan into saying he's her fiancé. This cannot be good...well for the rangers at least (Evil Author cackle here).
