"Please......don't do this."
Dib's eyes were bloodshot, staring as Zim stood hunched over his computer's control panel, giggling unmercifully, bony fingers tapping at keys in quick succession. He'd grown considerably since he'd arrived on Earth, either through genetic tampering or some other factor; Dib didn't know and frankly, right now he didn't care. They were on Zim's space station orbiting the planet, the Irken's first and only competent plan finally coming to fruition.
Dib swallowed from his position kneeling on the floor, eyes wide and wet, breath near the hyperventilation point.
Not true not true it's not true.
"Look at them, Dib-stink. They won't even see it coming."
Nottruenottruenottruenottrue.
"By the time they realize what's going on, well, they look like last week's left overs, anyway," Zim snickered, spidery fingers still clicking away, windows popping up on the screen; analyses of biological and chemical chains.
The Earth was poised proud and beautiful in the port side window.
Dib swallowed.
"The pig-humans are a fucking disgusting race, anyway, Dib," Zim went on, before the shock of using his name without any unwanted appendages could even reach the boy. "Look at them. Ignorant beasts, obsessed with power and flesh and breeding, shiny rocks and pieces of meaningless paper. Look at the way they treat each other, the way they treated you. The way they treated your little sister."
Dib sniffed, trying to swallow a hiccup. Gaz, naked and bleeding. The laughter. She had been screaming and no one had cared to look until it was too late and he had tried to stop them but he was struck hard from behind and when he had woken up he saw....
Dib looked away.
"Zim.....stop. Please? If you do... if you do... you can..." Dib trailed off, watery and red eyes darting around the tiny room in panic. What could he say that would possibly make Zim stop? "You can stay with me. You won't have to go near them, touch them, you can...."
"I have a better idea," Zim broke in, wheeling around to face Dib. "Why don't you stay with me?"
A tiny sobbed escaped Dib's lips. All he had worked for. Gone. Their game was finally ending, and he had lost....
The end is very fucking nigh.
"They don't care Dib. Why should you? You're better than them You've got every right to do this. Kill them. Think of the rewards the Tallest might have in store for such a loyal creature." Zim stooped down to where Dib was wallowing on the tiles, whimpering and muttering to himself. The Irken reached out, and gently stroked a porcelain cheek, careful to avoid his tears.
"The rewards I might have for such a loyal creature."
Dib sniffled.
Time ticked on.
What can I do?
Dib stood up, shaking. Zim wrapped a bony arm around his thin shoulders, gently guiding him over to the control panel. One more keystroke and it was over. Zim squeezed his shoulder.
"Don't blame yourself," he whispered cheerfully, and patted Dib on the back. "They were disgusting creatures and it was bound to happen some day."
Zim talked as if they were already dead.
Not happening.
Dib blinked away more tears.
NOT HAPPENING.
The boy looked over at the alien, who simply smiled back, eyes narrowing.
Chocking on a sob, Dib reached out towards the control panel, fingers trembling....
