I just realized that this story should actually be in the Crossovers- category, but I'll reconsider that later.

Thanks for both the kind reviews. They kept me going. :-)

"Ooooh! What's this? I've never seen anything quite like it before. Well, if you don't count that thing that a gnome once showed to me, but that was a lot bigger than this anyway!" a cheerful, rather shrill voice called out from somewhere behind the young mage and the four Stargate travellers.

"Hey, wait! That's mine! No, look out, don't point anyone with it! You might hurt someone," Daniel replied hastily to the little figure that was happily waving his sidearm towards the group.

"Really? What does it do? This pipe-thing here looks a bit like a whistle of some sort." Tas had turned the barrel towards himself and was peering inside, his finger on the trigger.

"It's a weapon that shoots bullets - a bit like a bow, except even more dangerous. Just give it back, all right?" Daniel reached warily towards the weapon.

"Well, if it's that dangerous, you really should learn to be more careful, instead of just dropping it away like that," the kender scolded, and reluctantly returned his finding to its proper owner, who let out a sigh of relief. "You know, that gnome thing that I talked about, it was also like a bow, or actually, like a crossbow, except that it was black, and the bolt was placed in a pipe, and there was steam and all, and it made a horrible noise!" Tas explained eagerly.

To the kender's great delight, Daniel was a keen listener. He stepped closer to squat near to Tas so he could hear what he had to tell.

Raistlin could hardly have been more annoyed. Why did the kender need to show up right now, when he was about to learn who these people were and why they were here? Now, the strangers would be completely distracted, both by Tas's stories and his talent at finding things that had not been lost at all.

But actually, the mage was only partly correct in his musings. Sam seemed to be listening to the kender as well, although not as closely as Daniel. Teal'c kept eyeing Tas, but his gaze did return to Raistlin every now and then. And Jack was not at all interested about Tasslehoff. Instead, he looked just as irritated as Raistlin felt.

Jack peered at Daniel and Tas, shook his head, and took a step closer to Raistlin. "A friend of yours?"

"A companion on the road," Raistlin replied dryly.

"So, is he the only one, or can we expect more happy encounters and lost guns?"

The others had still been awake when Raistlin had left, although Tasslehoff had been asleep. Now that both the mage and the kender had left the camp, it was quite possible that they would notice the missing people and come to look for them. Raistlin decided that he would only make things worse if he tried to deny the other companions. "There are others, but they should be more rational than this one," he answered sarcastically.

"What is he, anyway, this Tassel-something?" Jack went on asking - he had caught at least a part of Tas's name as the kender introduced himself and offered his hand to Daniel, probably lending a hankie or picking up a notebook in the process.

"Tasslehoff Burrfoot. He's a kender. And you? Are you all humans, like myself?" Raistlin decided that he should be the one asking the questions, not this stranger.

"Well, we're humans except for Teal'c, that big guy over there, who's a jaffa. Though I wouldn't have thought you a human. No offence, but you look a bit weird, with that skin and those eyes and all," Jack was not especially tactful.

"I'm just as human as you are," Raistlin whispered. He was about to ask what a jaffa was, but Teal'c's warning stopped him.

"Someone is coming," the jaffa stated in a low voice.

Raistlin winced inwardly. He could hear the loud footsteps as well, several sets of them, crunching on dry grass and partly crumbled stone. He could guess who it was. Caramon, probably full of worry since he had noticed that his brother was not in the camp. Perhaps Tanis as well, seeking for Tas as well as him. And since there were several heavy steps, Flint or Sturm had to be there, as Tanis's steps would be light - although the mage could not hear the clanking of armour that usually accompanied the future knight. He didn't expect to see Goldmoon or Riverwind, they would probably have stayed behind.

The four off-worlders had retreated to hide behind the nearby pillars and ruins, and Raistlin sought cover as well. Only Tas remained clearly visible in the red moonlight - Solinari was not visible at all, but Lunitari was full.

When he saw who the source of the footsteps was, Tasslehoff quickly retreated and hid behind a wall as well.

The dark figures that approached the hiding group were definitely not the rest of the companions. There were eight of them. They were scale-covered, lizard-like creatures with small wings protruding from their backs. Their claws made a nasty clatter as they hit the ancient flagstones.

"Friends of yours too?" Jack whispered harshly from behind Raistlin.

Annoyed because the stranger had managed to sneak behind him, the mage replied sharply. "Don't be a fool. I don't travel with lizard-men. I would suggest you prepare for battle. And beware, they will turn to stone when they die." He begun calling the words of a spell to his mind.

Daniel had emerged near Jack as well. "We can't just attack them right away, we don't know who they are, or what they want!" the young man uttered, alarmed.

"Well, I'd rather not find out what those claws are for... But no, we'll only attack if they give us a reason to," Jack answered in calmer tones.

Raistlin glared at them, shaking his head in disbelief. They would just have to learn the hard way, then. Although, he tried to convince himself, it was still possible that the draconians would not have noticed them.

The mage's hopes were quickly quenched when the draconians stopped advancing and one of them stepped forward. Peering straight at him, it begun to speak in its thick voice. "We know you are there. We can see you. Step out and surrender, and you might be spared," it declared.

Raistlin had no intention of giving up. The strange humans were still doing nothing, although they had again raised their black weapons. Tas was nowhere to be seen, which was not surprising at all. Well, he could only wish that the others would do their part. Still staying in the shadows, the red-robe raised his hands to sprinkle sand in a high arc in the direction of the draconians, uttering the words of a sleep spell.

The last syllable of the spell was still ringing in the air, when a dozen things seemed to happen in the same time.

One of the draconians, who had been heading towards Teal'c, suddenly jumped back, screaming in agony - something that resembled a bolt of fire had hit it straight on the chest.

Five figures emerged from the ruins around the draconians - two humans, a half-elf and a dwarf, and, leading the way, an anxious kender.

Another draconian had leaped towards Sam, slashing at her with its claws. She pointed her weapon at it. First, there was a loud bang, and then a yelp from the draconian, who backed away a bit.

Jack stepped away from Raistlin, behind a low wall, his weapon aimed at the draconians as well - but he hesitated still, as the newly arrived humans and other beings were so near to the enemies. Daniel was crouched behind the same wall, but he was even more hesitant.

Then, Raistlin's spell hit the draconians. Two of them actually fell to the ground, one stooped, and the rest stopped to stare ahead blankly.

Weakened by his spell, the mage leaned on the wall next to him, considering if he would have the strength for yet another one. But no, he would probably not need to even try.

The draconian that had been hit by Teal'c was lying on the ground, unable to stand up anymore, as was the one that had attacked Sam.

The stooped draconian was quickly taken down by Tanis, who struck it with the hilt of his sword.

Caramon was struggling to pull his sword out from a dead beast that had encased it in stone.

Sturm had been victorious as well, and faster than Caramon, since his sword was covered with green blood, and a dead draconian was at his feet as well.

Flint had struck the ones that were asleep so that they would not be waking up anymore.

The eighth draconian was gone, Raistlin noticed. No one else seemed to mind that, and at the moment, he was too weary to care. He stepped out from his shelter, swaying slightly. Caramon was at his side instantly, offering his arm for support.

The Stargate team had regrouped in front of the gate, and the companions gathered around them, cleaning their weapons and talking quite cheerfully. The battle had been fast, no one had been injured. It felt almost too easy.

"I think we'd better just head back, Sir," Sam suggested to Jack.

"But there's still so much here that we don't know!" Daniel exclaimed. "I mean, didn't you see, he actually cast a magic spell!" he pointed towards the mage.

"Hmm, that one sounds a lot like you," Flint grunted to Tasslehoff, nodding towards Daniel.

"Who are these people?" Tanis had come to stand next to Raistlin. "Where did they come from? Are they friends?"

Raistlin simply shrugged. "I know hardly anything. You should ask them."

Again, it was Teal'c's deep voice that cut short the conversation. "More enemies approach," the jaffa declared calmly.

Sorry, it's a cliffhanger again! Couldn't help myself. But this time, I promise to continue it. Soon.
