Summary: He looked at her, his eyes pleading. She looked at him. Her eyes showed she was determined, resolute, but broken. LIT one-shot
Disclaimer: I am but a poor high school sophomore without a job. I disclaim!
Author's Note: This little concoction takes place right at the Rory/Jess scene in "Last Week Fights, This Week Tights".This fic is entirely from Rory's standpoint, a'la my point of view (coughwishfulthinkingcough). Please read and review, and hope you enjoy.

He was here again. He left once to see his father. He left the second time right after confessing his love. And here he is today, trying to find the words that would best articulate how he felt.
"You're ready. And I'm ready. I'm ready for this. You can count on me now. I know you couldn't count on me before, but you can now. You CAN." His voice was starting to break down. He sounded so…genuine. Where was this a year ago?
But…she knew what she had to do. She honestly wants to accept that he was ready. She wants to be able to trust him. But she has too many roots here. She's bound to this world of Yale, Stars Hollow, her mother, her friends. She has to play the part of the resident, reliable, reasonable Rory Gilmore. Pity.
She finds her voice.
"No." I wish I could…but I can't.
"Look, you know we're supposed to be together. I knew it the first time I saw you two years ago. And you know it too. I know you do." I know it too, I know it too. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
Sweet, predictable Rory. She can't go off with the unpredictable, rebel, bad boy. She's not supposed to. She's supposed to be the stable, unwavering pillar. I'm sorry, Jess. This is what I have to do.
"No, no, no, no, no." Yes, I want to be with you. Yes, I love you. But no, no, no…
"Don't say 'no' just to make me stop talking or make me go away. Only say 'no' if you really don't want to be with me." This is it. After this, he'll probably never come back. I have to say goodbye to love.
"No." Goodbye.
The door slams. He's gone. She slumps back onto a cardboard box, not caring if the box rips or breaks. She buries her face into her hands. And cries.
Goodbye.
