Oh well, on with the fic!

Three uneventful days later, the shuttlecraft stopped at the rendezvous point, which was just outside of sensor range of the Romulan neutral zone border. No sooner had they come to a complete stop; the comm system beeped and a Klingon face appeared on the screen.

"Qapla'! Captain Picard. You honor us by requesting our help in rescuing the Romulan rebels and Ambassador Spock. You have permission to board our vessel." Said the Klingon commander.

"Hello Commander K'mpel, you honor us by helping the Federation rescue a valuable ambassador." Responded Picard. He turned to Zandile at the pilot's console and said, "You heard the Commander, Ensign, dock in their shuttlebay."

"Aye, Aye, Captain."

The docking was as flawless as the launch three days previous. Commander K'mpel was waiting for them as they left the shuttle. He recoiled and growled (cause that's what Klingons do) as Zandile, looking like a Romulan in a Starfleet uniform, stepped out of the shuttle.

Captain Picard noticed Commander K'mpel's reaction and hastily introduced Zandile before the Klingons attacked her. "Commander K'mpel, this is one of my officers, Ensign Zandile Rey. Please, don't let her appearance offend you. She is part Vulcan, and completely trustworthy and honorable."

Zandile stiffened to attention because of the formal introduction and the high praise from her captain. A smile was the only indication of her pleasure at being praised by the captain. Commander K'mpel was also impressed, and his expression relaxed after being reassured that a Romulan hadn't just boarded his vessel.

"Hello, Ensign. Welcome to the Kahless. I will show you to your rooms. We should reach Romulus in approximately 5 Earth days." Said K'mpel. He nodded acknowledgement to the Klingon stationed in the shuttlebay and turned to leave the shuttlebay. Zandile and Captain Picard followed him out.

The Klingons put the Captain and Zandile in separate, but adjacent quarters. This was unusual; Klingon ships aren't for passengers, and there usually aren't many spare rooms. Zandile noticed the stink of Klingon was still heavy in the air of her quarters. (Vulcan and half Vulcan females have a very acute sense of smell) She guessed it had been recently occupied, but vacated by a crewmember to allow Captain Picard and Zandile have adjacent rooms, an uncommon courtesy for Klingons. Captain Picard must be more respected by the Klingons than I realized, she thought.

The room was small, dimly lit, and decorated only with displayed ceremonial weapons, ceremonial candles, and a small statue of Kahless (the namesake of the ship). There was a replicator, the table with the statue and candles on it, two chairs, and a hard platform/ table that was the bed. For a Klingon's quarters, on a Klingon bird of prey ship, this was good accommodations. I guess it won't be too bad, living in this room for 5 days. Thought Zandile, dropping her duffel bag on the bed. I'm going to have to get a pillow out of the shuttlecraft. She said to herself in disbelief that Klingons liked to sleep on hard surfaces.

Time for unpacking was short, because a few minutes later, Captain Picard came and reminded her that they were invited to dinner at Commander K'mpel's table. Zandile followed Captain Picard to dinner because he somehow knew his way around a bird of prey class ship.

They entered a small room with a long table and about 20 chairs. Commander K'mpel and his senior staff, along with several women sitting with a senior staff member were already eating. Bowls and dishes filled the whole table. Wiggling worms, raw meat and animal organs made up the majority of the food. The smell was atrocious, even for a human's sense of smell.

Commander K'mpel waved a welcome and motioned for Captain Picard and Zandile to sit next to him. The other Klingons stopped eating to watch Picard and Zandile. Several of the Klingons recognized Captain Picard, and many growled or wrinkled their noses at Zandile because she looked like a Romulan.

Commander K'mpel noticed this reaction among his officers and said, "This is one of Captain Picard's trusted officers and a Vulcan. If I hear that any of my crewmembers fighting her for little reason or behaving dishonorably toward her, he will be severely punished." Commander K'mpel looked at Zandile and Captain Picard and said, "That should take care of my officers. They hate Romulans as much as I do, and may have tried to attack you because you look like a Romulan."

Captain Picard and Zandile took their seats, watched by the others at the table. The captain grabbed a plate and used his fingers to pile it with the live worms, meat, and bread and a vegetable that looked like a potato cooked in blood. Zandile also took a plate and used her fingers to grab food. She couldn't hide her disgust at the food, causing many jokes and (friendly?) insults to fly at her from all corners of the table.

"Can't handle gak like your captain, huh?"

"Even weaklings eat gak!"

"Try the bloodwine, Federation. Maybe it's tame enough for you."

Zandile, motivated by the jibes, grabbed a handful of the live worms, bread, the strange potatoes, and what looked like an animal heart. She shoved a worm in her mouth before she could think about not eating it, and swallowed it. She took a beaker of bloodwine to wash it down. "Not bad," she said. "Tastes like chicken."

The watching Klingons yelled their approval and the meal continued without incident.

Zandile got used to the Klingon ship, the food and the crew. The crew seemed to like her because she was respected by Captain Picard and Commander K'mpel and because she ate Klingon food without complaint. Several of the Klingons had also heard that she had taken Klingon martial arts classes, and challenged her to non-lethal scrimmages. Zandile actually won a few of the scrimmages, but lost most of them to the bigger and better trained Klingons.

In seemingly no time the Klingon ship was approaching the Romulus system. They were still well hidden under the cloak, as the bird of prey reached a high orbit around Romulus.

Zandile and Captain Picard readied to go to the surface. Zandile used Dr. Crusher's instructions to fix the captain's ears and eyebrows. Captain Picard put on a wig of black hair that had already been cut to a Romulan style. Both replicated Romulan clothes and jewelry. They were masquerading as a prosperous Romulan merchant and his daughter vacationing in the city.

A half-hour after the Klingon ship reached orbit; two people appeared in a dark, abandoned building, ready to carry out a rescue mission.

Cliffies, a writer's best friend, and a reader's worst enemy. I may not get a chance to update for awhile, so I purposely made it not a terrible cliffhanger. I started soccer practice, so I'll be busy after school until late May. Updates won't come as frequently. I'll try my hardest. The more reviews I get, the sooner I'll update.

Muh-hahaha!
