Odd Couple

"The most gorgeous thing on two legs just walked by."

Ran barely had to glance up to know it was Sonoko who took the seat across from her.

"Long flowing hair, amazing eyes, well built, and the cutest butt I've ever seen." Sonoko gushed.  Idly, Ran sipped her tea; it sounded like business as usual with Sonoko.  The girl sighed, breezily.  "You think she'd be interested in a date?" she wondered aloud.

"Cough, cough, splutter, choke!" Ran answered, staring at her friend in shock.  She?!

Sonoko noticed Ran's apparent discomfort.  "Oh, don't worry about it, Ran.  I mean, you're cute and all (absolutely luscious, really) but I know you already like Shin'ichi, and I don't chase people with other interests."

"But Sonoko," Ran protested weakly, having finally caught her breath.  "Makoto… All those guys…"

Sonoko shrugged.  "I never said I was gay."  She pondered this statement a moment, then grinned.  "Of course, to be fair, I never said I was straight, either."  Her eyes sparkled.  "Some of us prefer the middle ground.  Now, as I was saying…" As Sonoko continued to rave about the 'delicious' girl she'd seen, Ran resigned herself to listening to her friend obsess about the same sex in addition to the opposite.

Elsewhere, Koizumi Akako sneezed violently, and wondered who could be talking about her now?

Actually, I find the idea of Sonoko and Akako together both terrifying and oddly adorable.  (If, at one point, Sonoko actually does say she's straight, I'm not aware of it, and will officially call this fic an AU to keep it intact.)  Wasn't planning to post this, but then, I wasn't planning to write it, either.

A tribute fic of sorts to the Akako I saw wandering around at A-Cen ('04).  On the off chance that you are reading this, I'm sorry I didn't recognize you at first!  I'm the oddball that hugged you and asked for in-character autographs and handed out four-leaf-clovers.  You and the Kid cosplayer really made that con for me!

To anyone else who happens to be reading this, you now know what happens when you inspire me.
