Disclaimer: Unlike some people, I never get tired of writing these. I don't own Star Trek, capeche? Anyone who would ever seriously think I wrote Star Trek is clearly insane (and I mean the bad kind, not the good kind). I would like to thank the reviewers, because without you, I would merely email chapters to all of my friends who would want to read it, instead of putting it on fanfiction for the whole world to see, and hopefully enjoy.

Enjoy!

"The bald male is obviously a human. The databases we have access to say that he is a Starfleet captain named Picard." A voice was speaking softly.

"And the other one, the female. What have you found out about her?" The second voice was deeper, and sounded angry.

"We don't know, physiologically, she could be Romulan, but there are inconsistencies with the scans. We've been trying to find her in databases we stole from Starfleet, but we can't locate her." The first, more timid voice said.

"Why would a human and a Romulan be together here, and how did a human sneak onto Romulus in the first place!?" The second voice practically shouted.

"I don't know sir! Try waking the human up and asking him. I've done all I can. I don't have clearance for anything more classified than the stolen Starfleet records." The first voice now sounded frantic. Zandile, who had been slowly waking up, and listening, carefully sneaked a peek at where she was.

They were obviously in some sort of compound or warehouse, probably a military operation. She could see the two Romulans she had been listening to over by a computer screen of some sort. She was lying on a bench with several monitoring devices around. There were no bonds holding her down, perhaps the Romulans hadn't intended for her to be able to wake up any time soon. Zandile looked around without moving her head, and saw Captain Picard lying on the other side of the fairly small room. He was also unbound, but it was obvious to Zandile that he was still out cold.

The conversation got louder, and Zandile closed her eyes again and listened to the Romulans arguing.

"Sir, please, I don't know how the human got onto Romulus. It's not my duty to secure this planet from all infiltrating humans!" The first Romulan pleaded.

"By signing up for military service, it is you duty to protect this planet. I want you to find out why this human is here, and what he's doing, and why a superficially Romulan female is his accomplice! Give me a full report in 12 hours, or there will be hell to pay!" Said the second Romulan, the commanding officer.

"But, sir, I don't have clearance." Said the first guy.

"Use my command codes for now, but in 12 hours, exactly, I will deactivate those codes, and you will give me a full report."

"Yes, sir." Zandile chanced a peek, and saw one of the Romulans leave. The other, the commander looked in the prisoner's direction. Zandile closed her eyes quickly. A few moments, she heard the commander also leave, bringing a sigh of relief from Zandile. She carefully opened her eyes again.

The room was empty, except for the equipment and Captain Picard, of course. Zandile carefully sat up, noticing for the first time the wires and tubes coming out of her. There was an IV, connected to a bag of knockout drugs (that weren't working on Zandile, it seems), and several brain wave monitors. Zandile ripped away the electrodes and the IV, causing blood to start dripping from her wrist.

After no alarms went off from her movement, she went to Captain Picard. He was also on an IV, but there was no brain scan monitor, probably because they had already identified him. Zandile carefully removed her IV bag from its hook, and emptied it in a sink she found in a corner, and filled it with water. Then she removed the captain's IV bag, and replaced it with the water filled one. Nearby, on a table, Zandile saw some of the equipment they had brought with them. She scooped up a phaser, a communicator and a tricorder and hid them in one of the large pockets in the Romulan styled dress she was wearing.

As soon as she had accomplished this, Zandile went to the door the Romulans had used and listened for returning footsteps. There were none, so she eased open the door and slipped out.

In the corridor, Zandile was starting to wonder about the ease of her escape. "Maybe it's because they thought I would be out for a long time." She thought to herself. A Romulan guard was coming down the hall. Zandile tried to duck in a room, but the door was locked. As the guard approached, however, he merely nodded at her, and went on his way. "Of course, they think I'm a Romulan, and not a threat." Zandile saw a door that looked like it would lead to the outside. It was labeled in the Romulan language, and, from what Zandile knew of the language, it said, "Exit, authorized personnel only". A guard stood outside the door, apparently making sure of who went in and out.

Zandile had newfound confidence from the other guy not stopping her, and she also knew that by getting out, she could find help and get Captain Picard out, so she stepped up to the guard.

"I have orders to go out and find a late duty officer and bring him here," she said, praying that the universal translator was still working.

"OK," said the guard, stepping aside. "But you'll need the authorization card to get back in. I only care about who comes in, not who leaves."

"OK, bye," said Zandile, amazed at her escape. "I'll bet getting back in won't be so easy." She said to herself.

Out on the street, sunlight was waning as evening approached. "Wow we must have been out at least all day, maybe two." She said to herself. The activity on the street was similar to the activity two days ago, when they had landed.

Zandile pulled out the tricorder and hid herself in shadows in an alleyway. She pulled up the maps of the city on the small screen, and pinpointed her location with respect to Ambassador Spock's hideout.

She had been taken quite far from the inn that she and Captain Picard had stayed at the night before. She had to find Spock soon because the longer Captain Picard was in the hands of the Romulans, the less likely she would be able to rescue him and the more likely the military patrols would be alerted to look for her. Zandile looked over the map of the city and found a nearby civilian transporter terminal she could use to get to Spock's hideout.

Five minutes later, Zandile materialized on the same street she and the captain had been taken prisoner on. She looked around in the darkening twilight for any patrols or other danger. Finding no threats, she quickly walked down the street to an alleyway. She followed the alley for 15 minutes as it got darker and more dangerous (see previous chapter about the danger of that part of town.) At the end of the alley, there were two doors. One led to a long hallway that steadily went deeper underground and was protected by a password locking mechanism. The other was a fire exit for a dingy apartment complex. Zandile had to take the first door to get to Spock's hideout. She entered the password that had been given in an encoded part of Spock's mayday transmission, and the door swung open. Zandile took a deep breath and entered the darkness, closing the door behind her.

After 5 minutes of waling down the long, dark hallway, Zandile came to another door guarded with a video surveillance camera and a speaker. "Who is there?" said a voice from the speaker.

"Ensign Zandile Rey, I came here in response to the distress call Ambassador Spock sent to Starfleet. I came with Captain Picard, but he has been captured by the Romulan military. I need your help to rescue him."

"Very well, come in." Said the voice. The door opened, and Zandile walked through, anxious to meet the legendary Spock.

This seems like a good place to end a chapter. No cliffhanger this time. Don't you love me? If you do, review, please. If you don't, you can still review, but I'd prefer you kept rude comments to yourself. Not that I've had any rude reviews, I just don't want to start now. I love reviews, and my readers are wonderful people! (Except for Twinny, who may in fact, not be human, but and alien like myself.) I would like to thank each and every one of you guys, for reviewing and making me feel needed on this strange planet.
