Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek. I am merely an obsessed (?), crazy
fan.
I would like to thank my reviewers and friends. Twinny: Why am I talking to you here? You already share a telepathic connection to my brain. Anarra: I'm sorry I couldn't go to your speech. I loved it, and I hope you knocked their socks off. Kate: Thanks for your suggestions, they were helpful. However, please try constructive/ nice criticism, so you don't hurt people's feelings. Any others whom I may have forgotten cause I'm getting tired: Thanks!
Zandile squinted as a light was turned on in her face. A few seconds passed as she blinked away the spots in front of her eyes. She recognized Ambassador Spock before her vision cleared when he spoke, "Who are you."
Zandile kept blinking. "Ensign Rey, from the USS Enterprise. I came with Captain Picard to rescue you, but he got captured. He's the one that need rescuing now." Her sight cleared enough that she could see Spock raise an eyebrow.
"Welcome, Ensign. Please come in." Said Spock.
Zandile stepped into the room. It was fairly large and unfinished; with plaster walls, concrete floors and unmatched furniture. It was windowless and lit with candles and torches. Either it was meditation time, or the hideout didn't have electric light fixtures. Several Romulans dressed in Vulcan style robes were sitting on rugs and meditating. Some were injured in the raid and had bandages wrapped around various limbs. None of them had been disturbed by Zandile's knock on the door.
Spock and Zandile (following his example) waited patiently until the Romulans came out of their meditative states before he addressed them. "Students," he said, "this is Ensign Rey. She has answered our distress call to the Federation. We will leave as soon as possible,"
"And what about Captain Picard?" Said Zandile to Spock.
"My apologies for forgetting," said Spock to Zandile. He turned to his students and continued, "Ensign Rey's commanding officer, a friend of mine, was captured in their attempt to find us. I am asking for volunteers to help in a rescue."
"But, teacher," said one of the Romulans, standing up to face Spock. "Have you not always said that the good of the many is better than the good of the few. This friend of yours, while brave, knew what he was getting in to. Rescuing him may put us all in jeopardy."
"Yes, I have said that. But there are always exceptions to rules. I am asking for volunteers. Leaving Captain Picard in the hands of the government is not a good idea. He could be somehow forced to tell many secrets of the Federation, of Starfleet, and of our secret school. The government, as you well know by what happened our secrets, has many mind probing devices that can pry secrets out of anyone." Spock paused, to let his words sink in. "Who volunteers?"
"I do." Was the reply of every Romulan in the room.
(A/N: That was touching. Even Romulans can be good guys sometimes, huh. And, no, I don't care if this breaks continuity. It's a stopping point anyway. Maybe I should be mean and end here.)
"OK. So here's the deal." A few hours of sleep later, Zandile, Ambassador Spock, and the uninjured Romulans sat down to breakfast and a plan making session. "I will contact the Kahless and they can take care of the injured and your stuff, if you want it. Then we can rescue Captain Picard."
Spock nodded once in agreement. "That is a good plan. But we need to find a way to get into the base. We need to know everything you remember about the base where they are holding Captain Picard."
During the morning, they made a plan and started to evacuate the hideout. The Kahless was heavily cloaked in orbit, beaming up supplies and injured. The Klingons also sent a few officers down to the surface to aid the evacuation and help plan the rescue. They couldn't participate because they stuck out like a sore thumb and blow the rescuer's cover.
The Klingons were getting along with the Romulan rebels almost too well. There were few arguments and no fighting. Zandile noticed this behavior and asked one of the Klingons as he was helping pack medical supplies.
"These Romulans are honorable. They fight against the corruptness in their government. They do not act like most Romulans do. I would not demean myself to fight with these Romulans, no matter how much I dislike normal Romulans." He added an extra growl when saying "dislike" and "normal Romulans", revealing his non-diplomatic opinion of Romulans quite plainly.
After lunch, Zandile, Spock, and 10 Romulan volunteers were ready to put the carefully made plans into motion.
I know, I know, it's short. But it's necessary. I promise to you that the next chapter will be more exciting. Please tell me what you think. I will make changes to it, cause I know that this chapter isn't the best it can be. I just wanted to post tonight.
