Hey, ya'll! There is more NG. Thanks so much for reviewing!!!!! It made my day happy. Reviews are better than warm cinnamon bread from Zoi Johnos! I have been soooo busy with soccer, dance class, and various birthday parties, not to mention prom. The girl who was prom queen at my school stayed out until 10:30 the next morning! I have always said she was a bit crazy. Online birthday cake follows to the reviewers. And, now, on with the story!
Captain Picard was still in Dr. Crusher's office an hour later, file for any mention of Vulcan family members. Unfortunately, the only family members listed were human. Tamara Rey- Carsen, Zandile's mother, would have been the best person to ask, Captain Picard thought. Too bad she died a few weeks ago.
He hit the scroll down button and more names appeared on the screen. Human aunts and uncles, cousins, half siblings and Zandile's stepfather were all listed, but there was still no mention of Vulcan relatives. Medical files appeared next. Blood type, a genetic map, and a past health file were included.
It was then Captain Picard had two ideas.
He could run her DNA through Starfleet records and try to find matches, a tedious and possibly inaccurate job; or he could contact Zandile's stepfather and ask him if he knows anything about his stepdaughter's parentage. Captain Picard chose the latter idea, and was about to open a communication from Beverly's computer, when he saw the time displayed on the screen.
He had been away from the bridge for far too long, so he decided to make his transmission from his ready room. Picard strode out of Sickbay simultaneously thanking Dr. Crusher for the use of the office and grimacing as she reminded him to get a checkup before the day was out.
A few minutes later, Captain Picard entered his ready room and turned on his computer. After giving a few commands to the computer and pushing some buttons, he was faced with Commander Carsen.
"Hello, Captain Picard." Said Commander Carsen. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" He smiled jovially at Picard.
Picard replied with a sad, terse look that wiped the smile off Commander Carsen's face. "What's wrong? "asked Carsen worriedly.
"Your stepdaughter was injured during a mission. She suffered burns and a nasty concussion. Her injuries were healed, but we need a Vulcan to perform a mind meld to help her come out of a coma. She saved my life, though."
Commander Carsen's eyes widened in worry. "Will she be all right?"
"Dr. Crusher wants the mind meld done ASAP. A family member would be the best to perform the meld."
"I see. But I don't know who her Vulcan relatives are."
"Are you sure? Have Zandile or Tamara ever mentioned anyone?"
A shadow of sorrow at being reminded of Tamara crossed the commander's face. He furrowed his brow in thought as he tried to remember if his late wife had ever mentioned Zandile's real father. "Hmmm," he said, "There was a Vulcan ambassador at Tamara's funeral. Zandile invited him. I've never seen him before, either."
"What was his name?" Picard inquired.
"Umm. Ambassador Tarik. He lives on Vulcan. Try asking him."
Picard's expression lightened considerably. "Thank you, Commander. I will contact you the instant I have more news."
"Please do, Captain. I'm sorry about sending you on a wild goose chase." He gave Picard a small smile.
"Picard out."
The screen went blank. Captain Picard opened another channel seconds later, this time to Vulcan. After a few inquiries, he managed to reach Ambassador Tarik.
The Vulcan looked at Picard in his viewscreen with an expression of mild interest and curiosity. "Hello, Captain Picard. Was your mission successful?"
"Indirectly, that is why I called." Said Picard. Tarik nodded his head to signal for Picard to continue. "We rescued Ambassador Spock and the Romulan rebels. Unfortunately, my security officer, Ensign Rey, was injured. Ambassador Spock recommended that a mind meld with a family member to heal the coma. I don't know who her family is, though."
Recognition flashed in the Vulcan's eyes. "Well it seems you have found her family. Ambassador Spock is very wise. He knows a great deal about Vulcan mind techniques."
"You're her family?" Asked Picard, forgetting all formality and gaping open-mouthed for a few seconds. "How soon can you come?"
"I will come immediately. Ambassador Tarik out."
The screen again went blank and the Starfleet insignia remained on the screen. Picard sighed with relief.
He settled back in his chair and pulled up the daily reports from the time he had been gone.
"Captain Picard." Dr. Crusher's voice came over the comm system. "I hope you have found one of Ensign Rey's family members and they're on their way." "As a matter of fact, yes. Ambassador Tarik is coming ASAP. Why?"
"Ensign Rey needs that mind meld soon. I healed the concussion, but she slipped into a deep coma. The computer and life support machines are the only things keeping her alive."
The drama continues! I am staying up late to write and post this just for you NG and Anarra. (Ladybug can't go online till Sunday; parents are dumb sometimes aren't they?) Please review.
I posted without editing majorly, and I'm tired, so if ya'll see big errors, please tell me and I will fix it.
