Living a Lie

Living a lie was never easy, but over the years I grew to deal with it. Having to keep my identity secret from the whole world was hard, but what was even harder was to keep my true identity from the one I loved. Seven long years passed from the time I last saw him, and every year I grew in my skills and abilities. My guardian watched over me for six of those seven years, until she left me alone on this dieing land. I will never forget that day.

"Stay there I will return for you when it is safe," my guardian said to me as she dashed into the corridors of the temple. At a young age of sixteen I had experienced more than any other sixteen year old had probably ever had to. I slowly peeked around the corner of that lonely corridor, only to see my guardian fight her way through the continuous ambush of beasts.

Once she had slain the last monster she called for me to follow. I followed her down the now deserted hallway into a dark empty room. Suddenly a huge creature fell from the ceiling, the blast sent me flying back into the corridor. I stood back up and tried to get back to help my guardian, but a large barred door came down in front of me. Now all I could do was watch my Guardian fight the horrid beast.

My guardian was unlike anyone else I had every met. I watched her stand strong as the beast pounded the ground beneath her feet. She pulled out her sword and shield and gracefully slashed at the beast. I tried my best to help her, by shooting arrows through the wide bars. The battle was long, but my guardian stood strong. Suddenly a monster grabbed me from behind.

"Help me!" I cried. My guardian swiftly turned around to face me, and at that moment the beast's hand came crashing down on her small body. Knowing that his enemy had been defeated he retreated back into the dark shadows. I killed the beast that had grabbed me and watched the steel bars raise in front of me. I ran over to my guardian, weeping freely into her soft hair.

"This is all me fault, please don't leave me," I cried. She picked up her hand and gently stroked my hair. Reaching inside her bag she pulled out her harp.

"Take this, it will guide you. It is not your fault child, don't cry. Although I may not be there in flesh, my spirit will always be with you. Go now you must leave before that creature returns," she said to me, and died in my arms.

"I won't leave you," I cried. All of a sudden a cool breeze swept over my body. I picked up me head to see a white smoke waiting for me at the entrance of the dark room. I picked up the harp and held it tightly to my heart, and followed the white smoke down the long and winding corridors of the haunted temple. It led me back to the entrance. I climbed up the long ladder and looked back into the dark temple.

"I'll never forget you," I whispered and ran away, hoping that I would never have to return to that place.

It was nearly a year ago that I had lost my dear friend. In that year I had improved my skills, and become the best that I could possibly be. Now was the time that I would use those skills. For now, after seven years, my love had returned, and my job was to help him save my home.

As I stood out on the highest peak of Goron Mountain, I whispered out the only words I had left of my true identity.

"I am Zelda.Princess of Hyrule."
