-Ribbon-
A small gesture, really.
Just a tiny piece of material that had been kept for no real reason, not for its monetary value at least. It's once pale pink colour tarnished with specks of crimson, its ends tattered and frayed from where it had been handled.
It was nearing the end of its life, the ends now so tattered that the whole thing threatened to unravel at any moment. So now its possessor took great care in handling it; treating it as though the now dirty material were some irreplaceable gift.
To him it was.
True, it had not been given to him directly by the person but it had been kept as a keepsake, a reminder of that day. Lest he never forget. He could never forget…haunting his dreams, consuming his thoughts. He didn't want to forget, scared that the moment he did she would truly be gone; so long as he remembered she would still be alive to him.
Clingy blindly to this false hope, Cloud took out the ribbon again, as he did every day to remind him of Aeris. The world had been saved by her, where Holy had failed she still managed to use the Lifestream to save the planet.
Even in death she was helping people.
Two small droplets of salty water fell on the ribbon, darkening the pink as they soaked in. One last thought ended his trance-like state, and Cloud pocketed the treasure once more, knowing that tomorrow he would be staring again at the blood stained ribbon; the only thing he had left to remind him of her
The small piece of ribbon that could reduce him to tears.
