Meet Me There

It seemed to have happened in an instant.
At first it had been a typical Friday night. Summer and Seth had gone to dinner and a movie, and spent the rest of the evening walking hand in hand along the boardwalk.
He dropped her off at her front door around 1:00am and they both exchanged a simple, but passionate, kiss before saying their goodbyes. Little did she know it would be her last.
"I Love you! ", she yelled while he walked back to his car.
Although she had said it many times before she liked to hear those words echo amongst the trees.
"I Know ", he called back, smiling to himself, "I love you to!"
She turned and entered the house. It had been the perfect evening. She slipped into her nightgown and snuggled into bed, cuddling Princess Sparkle. "I love Seth Cohen" she softly whispered into the plastic pony's ears. Slowly she drifted off to sleep, not wanting to erase that evening's memories from her mind.
Seth turned onto Princeton Rd., heading for home, he sang along to a Death Cab for Cutie song while he thought about his great night.
As the last words to "Photobooth" escaped his lips a red SUV swerved onto the road from a nearby field. As if in slow motion the large truck plowed into his vehicle....
Seth lay underneath the crushed dashboard of his car. The blood flowed from a gash in his head but he could feel no pain. A tear rolled down his cheek. He thought about the memories that he would never have. His graduation, wedding, and birth of his first child. In all of these he envisioned Summer by his side. His concentration was getting weaker and he knew he was close to the end, but he was not afraid.
Suddenly, he remembered the cell phone in his pocket. Knowing he was almost gone he knew he'd have to say goodbye. He dialed Summer's cell phone number and waited for her to pick up. Nothing. Then the answering machine came on. Just the sound of her recorded voice brought warmth to his cold body.
Beep. He knew this was it. "Goodbye Summer, I love you." He whispered from his weak breath. As the numbness of the cold engulphed his body he knew, one day, she would meet him there.
