Trinity watches silently as Neo lounges in the chair waiting to enter the Matrix. Her senses scream with fear for him, for her love, but as she opens her mouth she can do naught but look at him with pleading eyes, pleading, praying for him to stay safe.
"Neo..."His eyes meet her, deep brown eyes that catch her off guard every time. He smiles gently as if he could read her thoughts.
"I know."
Trinity watches as Neo enters the Matrix, leaving his body behind. Every time Neo enters the Matrix, her every breath is fraught with worry. Maybe this time Neo will run into something he cannot handle, maybe next time and I will never see him again, but she cannot go with him. Maybe this time he will fall into a sleep only to never wake again. She is pregnant. To go would risk the life of a living being created by their love. She can only stand by to watch and pray for his safe return.
"Trinity..." A deep voice pierced through the haze, interrupting her thoughts. Trinity whips around to be faced by Morpheus, his face painted with a small understanding smile. "Neo won't be back for a while. Maybe you should go do something to get your mind off it. He'll come back."
Trinity flashes him a smile that does not reach her eyes, and she turns and makes her way out of the room. As she steps out, she turns around as if expecting Neo to wake up again but her eyes fall in disappointment as she sees he is still lying there, his mind wandering in the Matrix. Her light footsteps make their way around the ship as she wanders, deep in thought. Her mind again turns towards a certain man with warm brown eyes. She remembers the first kiss they share, the smile on their faces as they spend hours talking deep into the night. Then she remembers the fears she has faced for the last eight months, the time she found out she was pregnant. Since then she stays on the ship unable to follow him into the Matrix. She counts down the days to when she can join Neo again, any day now. AS she dwells on these thoughts a small whisper makes its way to her mind.
Why? Why? What was the point of going back to the Matrix? To dwell on a hope as fragile as a spider's web, to spend everyday living in fear. Fear that the machines would find Zion; fear that her loved ones would die fighting for their lives. Trinity hastily tries to banish these thoughts but they will not let go. She feels herself falling deeper and deeper into despair. This time a physical pain jolts her back to reality. Her baby is coming. She does not remember how, but she managed her way to the medical wing of the ship. Her thoughts become a confusing whirlwind. She grimaces, her forehead covered with sheen of sweat. To this day she will never know whether her pain was more physical or mental, but eventually the physical pain passes. As her eyes focus on the tings around her, she sees a broad smile, rarely seen on the faces of the people in the ship.
"Look, its your baby girl." A small crying bundle is thrust in her hands. As she looks down her eyes becomes mesmerized. She looks down on a pair of chocolate brown eyes, so like their father's. Her hands reach unconsciously to stroke the locks of curly raven black hair, and she remembers why. She remembers why they fight and struggle, against impossible odds. They did so for times like this, for the small things in life that bring a joy and happiness unattainable anywhere else. Her daughter is not made by machines, but born out of passion and love. She fights to spend one more time with Neo. To someday see the real sun, and not just a program in her mind. If not for her then for the precious child cradled in her arms. She holds out for her daughter, for something as beautiful as this.
