Heart Broken... and Alone
Spoilers: Chimera

"Hey Pete!" She opened her front door.
"Hey Sam. Ready to go?"
"Yup, just let me grab my coat." She did so, and followed him to his car. They went out for a nice dinner and dancing afterward. He was as funny and charming as ever, which to her held promise for later that night.
They arrived back at her house, and went inside as usual. She turned around and put out her hands to him.
That was when things became weird. Instead of taking her hand, kissing her, and making love, he just stood there.
"What's wrong, Pete?"
He seemed nervous. "Sam, can we sit down?"
This was odd. "Sure Pete."
They sat. Boy, he sure is nervous. She was a little put out at not being made love to, but that would probably come later.
"Sam, I don't think this is a good idea anymore." What!? "I just... I don't think either of us can really give all that should be given to each other. I mean, my work hours are crazy because I'm a cop, and yours are crazy too. Plus, you can't talk about it, and since you spend so much time there, that pretty much means there's nothing to talk about when we are together."
She just stared at him. What!?
His shoulders sagged. "It's just not going to work."
Her mind was slowly catching up. "We could make it work."
"No... I don't think so. Neither of us has the time to make a long distance relationship meaningful. I want more, you deserve more, and neither of us can give it to the other."
He was breaking up with her. That's all there was to it.
"Sam? Are you going to say something?"
"I don't know what to say, Pete."
"I'm sorry."
"Yeah... Me too." She thought she was about to cry.
"Look, I'm going to go now. I'm heading back to Denver tomorrow."
"Oh."
He rose to his feet. On impulse, he kissed her cheek. "Will you be okay?"
NO! "Yes, I guess."
"Bye Sam. If you're ever in Denver, look me up. We can still be friends."
"Wait!" She started, but then sighed. "Yeah okay. Bye Pete."
"Bye." Then he was gone.
That night, she cried herself to sleep, still in the dress she had gone out in. She cried herself to sleep... alone.
The End
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Kinda depressing, I know. But I was in a really bad mood. See, I'm a big Jack and Sam fan. The first time I saw Chimera, I wanted to kill Pete. But the second time I watched it, I realized that Pete wasn't the problem. It was Sam. To be honest, I didn't really like the Samantha Carter of the mid- and late season seven, and Chimera was Sam at her all time low.
Any how, like it or hate it, there it is.
