"Trowa, you have a visitor." Catherine's voice carried her displeasure. She didn't like the sort of visitors he usually had.

Inwardly the young man felt a flicker of curiosity. Lady Une must really need him badly to send someone to fetch him here at the circus. Usually she respected his vacation time from the Preventers. He stood from feeding the lions and turned to meet his guest.

Honey blond hair that would forever remain in his memory greeted him. She had grown but he still recognized her, recognized the innocent look about her that still remained. He said nothing, regarding her neutrally.

She stepped closer. "Preventer Barton..." Her voice trailed off as she got a better look at him. "Na...Nanashi?" she asked hesitantly.

"It's Trowa now."

"Oh."

Catherine was still standing behind Midii and Trowa turned to her. "Thank you Catherine."

She frowned. "Do you have to leave again?"

"Probably."

"Come back." She had given up arguing with him about leaving long ago.

He tilted his head to the side. "I always do."

"Be careful. You're the only brother I've got."

"I know."

She sniffed and left them alone.

Midii spoke softly. "I didn't know you had a sister." He knew she was thinking of before, when she'd accused him of not having the same sort of ties that she did, of being empty.

"We found each other after I met you."

She looked up into his eyes and opened her mouth to say something more but then closed it again.

"How are your brothers and father?" he asked unexpectedly.

She looked surprised at the question or perhaps it was because the boy she had known would never have asked. "My father died a few years ago. But my brothers are fine. They all managed to stay out of the war."

"But not you."

"Or you."

"Did you expect me to?"

"No." She studied his face intently, exploring the green eyes that were not cold as before but only curious. "You've changed."

"Not really. There's just no reason to hide anymore."

Her eyes dropped and he knew she was thinking of the things she'd shouted at him, of the accusations of emptiness. "I'm sorry."

He shrugged. If the war had taught him anything it was that most actions have some negative consequences. "We all had choices to make."

"Some were just better than others." She said, her eyes still refusing to meet his.

"They got me where I am." He paused. "I can't complain. I have the privilege of knowing some very special people."

"The other pilots?" So she knew he had been a gundam pilot. It wasn't a secret but it still wasn't common knowledge either. He nodded in response to her earlier question, although a response was not really needed.

She smiled and lifted her eyes to his. "We both have those ties, don't we?"

"The responsibility too. We always did." He thought of the people who had raised him, who had not been his but had still given him a home of sorts. He thought of the people he would choose to protect now, the ones that stood by him.

She had thought he had not understood that before. She had thought she alone was driven by and for that inescapable connection.

"Yes, we did. Trowa." She smiled and it was the innocent and beautiful smile he remembered. "That's a nice name." she congratulated him, happy for him and his success.

"Thank you." And he allowed a small smile in return.
