Chapter XI: Spilling Red

"Sasuke!" Kakashi lunged forward to stop the possessed Sasuke from doing something he might regret later, for Itachi didn't seem to move even bit. He just stood there unmoving.

"Oh no, Kakashi-kun. You're going to miss the good show. I'd rather have you watch." said Orochimaru amusedly, his hands making a seal. "There."

Suddenly, emerged from where Kakashi stood, breaking the material of what had been the floor, were hordes of snakes, forming themselves together into a living prison of deadly venoms. "Don't even try to move. You'll lose your life worthlessly." chuckled the sennin darkly. "Now let's watch the show. Isn't it interesting?"

"Damnit!" Now all the silver-grey haired jounin could do was only watch and hopelessly wished that the result of this fight didn't turn out the way he feared it to be. Damnit! Isn't there anyway to break this snake jail?

"What're you waiting for, Sasuke-kun? It's time for the revenge you've waited for so long." The now-teenaged sennin said, moving back a few steps to sit on the windowsill, above which the small bell jingled, swaying freely in the wind so that he could have a better view at 'the show'.

Clash.

Silver spark of metal clashing against metal flew as Sasuke's kunai was stopped by Itachi's katana. The older Uchiha had finally snapped out of his trance to Kakashi's relief. Sasuke scowled, his Sharingan eyes flaring as he dropped down to the floor, sweeping a swift kick. Itachi dodged, jumping back, his black cloak making a soft swish. Sasuke didn't waste any time, charging back at him with the kunai.

Swish. Block. Swish. Block.

Thin silver lines flashed from time to time in rhythm with the movement of the sharp blades. More spark flew as the cycle of attacking and blocking continued and it didn't look like it was going to stop anytime soon until Orochimaru decided that wasn't entertaining enough and spoke up: "Why, Itachi-kun, you only keep blocking. Why don't you fight back?" he said, tilting his head a little to the right. Sunlight bounced off his earring in a golden hue, matching with his eyes that was gleaming with knowing mischief. "I wonder if you find the defensive position so enjoying."

Swish. Block. Swish. Block.

"Or is it because you're still feeling guilty of wiping your own clan for your selfish reason of forbidden desire? Pity. Such great loss resulted in more suffering."

"What you did was an act of a coward who tries to escape from the truth. You make him suffer."

Itachi's movement halted all of a sudden.

"Amnesia deceived him from the truth but you know his hatred for you doesn't fade like smoke..."

"Do you regret it?"

Slash.

"And he surely regrets everything when his memory is back."

Cold, sharp blade bit into its delicious prey of human flesh, spilling the thick red liquid on the already tainted floor.

The psychotic sennin leered smugly, leaning back against the window frame. "What a surprise. I've never expected Uchiha Itachi to show this much of an expression." He licked his lips, appreciating the redness that flowed like streaming rivulet. "Or should I say 'emotion'?"

Since he couldn't really harm Sakura, Naruto put all his kunai and shuriken back in their right place. He watched as Sakura took down his clones one by one. She was fast and far more skillful than she normally was, being controlled by the enemy. Without using the weapon, it must be much more difficult to stop her. "Sakura-chan, wake up!"

It was no use calling. Sakura didn't seem to hear him at all as she deposed of another clone.

"Boy, you're even worse than I thought." came Kisame's voice from another side. Naruto scowled and shot back: "Shut up! I should be asking why you're even here!"

Kisame blocked Kabuto's knife chakra with the hilt of Samehada and using his powerful force, he shoved the white-haired man back, sending him flying across the place to hit the wall hard. The shark-like man smirked. "It's very simple. You know, if the vessel is dead, the Kyubi is dead as well."

"Hn. I shouldn't have forgotten that you want the Kyuubi's power. But..." Naruto leapt up to stand on the branch. "Temporary alliance isn't bad." All of the kitsune boy's clones charged at Sakura. As expected, the pink-haired girl fearlessly sliced back at them with the kunai. The kitsune boy watched his clones disappear into puffs of smoke. He then grinned foxily. "Kage Bunshin!" And made out more of his copies.

Like last time, all Naruto charged at his possessed teammate. Yet Sakura only deposed some of them to clear the way. She then leapt up the branch and slashed at the one supposed to be Naruto's real body.

Slash.

Naruto's body spasmed when the blade cut into the skin. A victorious laugh could be heard as Naruto's body before the pink-haired girl turned out to be...

Just a clone.

"Sorry, Sakura-chan!" The real Naruto appeared from behind, tackling Sakura down to the ground. The kunai flew from her grip as she hit the floor and was knocked out with the help of the rest of the blond boy's copies.

"Phew!" The real Naruto jumped back to the grass covered ground, wiping the sweat away from his forehead with the back of his hand. "I hope she won't get mad at me when she wakes up."

Kisame, being careless since he thought he had knocked out Orochimaru's right hand, turned to mock Naruto. "You sure take a lot of time to take down a girl."

Naruto was about to retort but when he saw that Kabuto wasn't where he was supposed to be...

Crack.

"Watch out!" The kitsune boy yelled.

The shark-like man jumped back to avoid the attack coming from underground but...too late. Kabuto's chakra knife dealt a damage in his right leg, tearing the muscle. Kisame's right knee sunk to the ground and he had to use his Samehada for balance. "The reason Orochimaru-sama is interested in me isn't because of my strength or techniques but an ability of quick healing. My chakra will stimulate the metabolism of my body's cells." Kabuto smiled triumphantly. "I win."

"You don't!" Naruto shout, attacking Kabuto from behind with the Rasengan. Kabuto saw the attack coming but his body reacted too slow to evade it. Naruto's Rasengan hit Kabuto squarely in the back, sending him flying once again against the wall. But it turned out to that Kabuto had switched himself with one of Naruto's clone, thus it was the clone lying there before it turned back into a puff of smoke. "Shit!" Naruto evaded the attack coming from behind, dodging to the side.

"I shouldn't have forgotten about you, Naruto-kun." Kabuto readjusted his glasses. "Nice try."

Whoosh.

Kabuto let himself drop to the ground to avoid Kisame's enormous sword. The wound he had caused the shark-like man in the leg did make his movement slower but the blow was still deadly while Naruto lunged back at him. This doesn't look good. I have to get rid of one of them. Evading Kisame's sword, the white haired-man swiftly whirled to another side, his chakra knife cutting through the air directly at Naruto's face.

Blood splashed.

Kisame's sword gave Kabuto a wound in his left arm while Kabuto's right arm was stopped by Naruto's forehead protector. The kitsune boy smiled triumphantly. "My turn." And he plunged Rasengan squarely into the man's stomach. The impact of the attack sent Kabuto flying across the place to hit the tree trunk hard, shaking the snow down from the branch. Snow!? The white haired-man's eyes widened and he coughed out blood. He was starting the healing process yet...

My chakra!?

"My sword, Samehada can drain chakra." The white haired-man passed out a minute later. His chakra was drained by Kisame's Samehada. "I win." The shark-like man then dropped down to sit on the ground, studying his wounded leg.

"Are you alright?" asked Naruto, sounding a bit concerned.

Kisame laughed, shaking his head. "You're such a weird kid. To worry about your enemy."

Naruto grinned. "But I'm better than you thought, right?"

Drip. Drip.

Blood...Itachi's blood.

Drip. Drip. It was red all over.

You wounded Aniki.

The childish voice in his head said. The voice was strained as if it was crying.

He deserves it. He murders our clan. He kills everyone I loved. He deserves to die.

The harsher, older voice protested. The voice was bitter and angry.

Don't you love him? I know I do. Although I haven't known him as long as you, I know I do from the first day I met him at the hospital.

Another voice spoke up. Its voice was sad and quiet.

What about my family? What about our family?

"Emotion... Love is weak, blind and pathetic, don't you think so, Itachi-kun?" came Orochimaru's voice.

Aniki is my only remaining family. I don't want him to die.

Drip. Drip.

I can see red. Red is your blood, spilled by my own hands...the same blood as mine. Why don't you dodge it, Itachi?

"You used to be strong. Even stronger than me, unreachable and unbreakable. The real ice. Now look, what this thing so-called 'emotion' do to you?" sneered the sennin mockingly. "Who would have thought you'd sink this low, being in love with your little brother?"

"You're wrong, snake-face!" A boyish voice destroyed the atmosphere of sheer despair in the room. "When you've someone you love, someone you want to protect, you can become much more stronger. That was what I was told." ...By a friend.

"Naruto." Kakashi addressed the blond boy, who appeared standing confidently in the doorway.

"What're you doing in there, sensei?" The boy asked, blinking as he saw Kakashi trapped in Orochimaru's snake cage.

"I told you not to come." The jounin frowned slightly. "You disobey my order again."

"Nah, sensei, you know this isn't time for that." The blond boy turned and his eyes widened in horror at what he saw. "Sasuke! What the hell are you doing!?"

"..." The raven haired-boy was silent, still holding the bloodstained kunai in his hand.

"What're you waiting for, Sasuke-kun? Kill him. Isn't that what you want?" Orochimaru's evil voice crawled across the air toward the possessed boy. Sasuke's fingers traced the blood coated edge slowly. His expression was unreadable as he looked at the bleeding figure in front of him. "Kill him. Make everything right" Orochimaru said again.

"Are you mad!? You can't kill Itachi!" Naruto yelled, dashing toward the two Uchiha. Two pairs of Sharingan eyes widened as Naruto punched Sasuke hard in the face, sending the boy tumbling to the floor, clutching his cheek. "Wrong or not, you do love him, don't you!? Don't you!?"

"Itachi, are you my brother?"

"Do you regret it?"

"What the hell is wrong with you!?" Naruto shout at him, his fist shaking with rage.

"Never. I'll never regret it."

Tears slid down Sasuke's pale cheek, past the bruise where it stinged as Naruto continued to yell at him. Finally, he sobbed out, "...I do" his lips quivering. "Stop it, Naruto. I know I do."

"..." Naruto stopped yelling as he watched Sasuke weep in silence. A sight he had never expected he'd see.

Suddenly!

"Naruto! Behind you!" Kakashi warned his student. Naruto turned and saw Orochimaru's extended head come darting toward his way, baring his snake-like fang sinisterly.

Clash.

Before Orochimaru could clamp his teeth down on Naruto's head, Itachi replaced its target with his katana. That was when Kakashi decided it was time he reacted, he used the water jutsu he had copied from Zabuza to attack Orochimaru's body, catching the sennin's attention. What!? Since when did he escape? Before Orochimaru could do anything, Itachi's leg hit the sennin's jaw forcefully, making the sennin let go of his grip on the older Uchiha's katana. When his head returned to its place, the sennin glared at Kisame. "I've never thought the Akatsuki would sink so low that its member has to cooperate with its enemies."

"Not as low as an old man trying to look like a youngster." Kisame retaliated. "Your snake prison was so easy to break from the outside. Pity, I don't like eating snaky snacks."

"Hahaha." Orochimaru laughed.

"What the hell is so funny!?" asked Naruto.

"What a shame. Here we've the most talented ninja in Konoha history, Uchiha Itachi, the infamous Sharingan Kakashi and one of the most powerful seven Kirigakure swordmen. Not to mention the Kyuubi. But all of you can't even give me a scratch." said the sennin, his hands making a strange seal all of them had never seen before in one fluid motion. "I am immortal." The psychotic sennin smiled his creepy smile as blinding light enveloped his body. When the light was gone, all of the damages he received from earlier disappeared and his body became even younger.

"You're missing me."

Orochimaru's body convulsed and blood gushed out of his chest, spilling fresh red on the old faint trace on the floor. Chidori's blue spark ceased from Sasuke's hand that was now replaced with foul blood.

Outside the window, the spring wind became chilly and the blossoming cherry blossom trees began to abandon their leaves and flowers, discarding the sweet spring time for cold winter. More snow fell, altering green to white. In a blink, it was winter again...

Okay, that was enough for this chapter. It was longer than the previous ones. The last chapter will be up soon. This time I'm sure it's the last one because I already have half of it written. Now let me take a nap before I start working again, okay?
