She was dead. Lying in a pool of blood. Her body twisted, the knife through her rib cage still visible. She lay there. Dead as a doornail.

Members of the crew stood back while Phlox announced her death. They were amazed at how quick Crewman Thoms lunged and stabbed her.

There was speculation about why the young crewman stabbed her. Did she hate her? Was she just crazy? They didn't know yet, that's why they stood there. Captain Archer had gone to speak with Marie.

Once there in the brig, Archer eyed the petite crewman. She sat on the bed, staring at the wall across her. There was utter rage in her eyes, mingled with a tinge of sadness. Her dishwater blonde hair was a knotty mess, and her eyes red with tears.

"Did you do it because you couldn't stand her?" Archer asked as he stood against the wall, trying not to give into his rage against the woman who took away someone he held so dear.

Marie's gaze turned to the captain. She simply stared at him with eyes suddenly empty, not speaking a word. Not a peep. She just stared.

Archer didn't move and she didn't flinch. Her skinny frame made her seem almost child-like. She looked as if she could have never killed a person.

The captain couldn't believe that she stabbed another member of his crew. Marie didn't look like she could hurt anyone. But Archer knew better; he was present when she attacked her superior officer.

After what seemed hours, she finally spoke. Her hoarse voice spoke the simple words, "Hoshi belongs with the commander, not that Vulcan."

Archer stood there and she fell silent once again.
