Chapter 1: Rushmore
"She's my Rushmore, Max."
"Yeah, I know, she was mine too."
Tristan picked up the remote and paused the DVD he and Rory were watching. He looked to her and noticed she was staring out the window.
"Rory, are you paying attention?"
"Huh...Oh yeah, sure." She answered looking a little startled.
Tristan wasn't convinced.
"Then what just happened?"
"Um...that old headmaster guy was talking to that kid with glasses."
"Professor Guggenheim was talking to Max, but no, that happened ten minutes
ago. Rory, this movie is one of the best films of the 90s. One's
first experience with it should not be spent staring out the window.
Now, can you please pay attention, for my sake?"
"Sure."
"Thank you," he said with a smile and pressed the play button.
5 minutes passed and Tristan looked over to Rory. He noticed she was staring out the window again. He paused the movie once more.
"Rory."
"What...why did you stop the movie?" She questioned looking a little
more than startled.
"Because you were staring out the window, again. Is something
bothering you?"
"No, why would anything be bothering me?"
"I don't know. You've been quiet ever since I picked you up and now I
am getting worried."
"There's nothing to worry about. I'm fine."
"Good." He said before giving her a light kiss and starting the movie
again.
