How many times she had dreamed of him. He was perfection. Tall, thin, muscular, keeper of the Gryffindor Team, and he had those cute little freckles...

Luna Lovegood gave a sigh as she sat in her room. It was a very cramped space. The walls were covered in Quibbler articles, her desk covered in incompleted experiments...

She had thought of Ron Weasley all summer. She remembered everything about him. The way his ears turned red when he was angry, the way his hair ruffled in the wind as he caught the Quaffle.

She frowned as another though came. Hermione Granger kissing him. She remembered how happy they were and smiled. It was good to see them happy, even if she wasn't in the picture. They deserved each other.

But now Luna was plagued with another thought. There was another boy, one most people wouldn't even give a second glance. He was short, chubby, and very forgetful, he wasn't perfect. And Luna liked that. She liked that he was an outcast, she was too. Everyone thought she was crazy, didn't they? But, she had seen a different side to Neville Longbottom, and it was then that she realized she loved him.

The night in the Department of Mysteries came back to Luna. She couldn't remember everything, it was very blurry. She was unconscious a bit of the time too. Yet she remembered hearing Neville, his wand broken, his nose bleeding profusely, standing up to the Death Eaters. She remembered that Lestrange woman, the Death Eater who cursed Neville's parents, using the Crutacious Curse on him. She shuddered as she heard his screams, then his sobs, begging Harry to not give up the Prophecy. He didn't care what happened to him. Just not to give them what they wanted.

Miraculously, they had all lived through that night.

Picking up the Quibbler that was lying on her bed, she flipped toward the middle. Hermione could keep her perfect Ron Weasley. And once Ginny had him, she could keep her famous Harry Potter. There was only one Luna desired. And it was the unpopular,
self-conscious boy who could see thestrals.

For he was the only one she understood.
