Fly Away From Here
Insignificant. That was how he felt. The only word available to him at that moment to describe the feeling he got when he looked up at the stars. He was nothing. Compared to everything else in the universe, he was just a simple speck destined to be nothing.
Eyes closed for a moment, basking in the quiet silence of the desert night. He always preferred the night, the darkness that surrounded him made him feel at home. Sure he lived here, but the day always seemed so harsh. Always seemed like he didn't belong in this place. He belonged somewhere else. Somewhere up there amongst the stars in the eternal blackness amongst foreign glittering suns.
That was what he told himself at least. Told himself he wasn't destined to be a simple moisture farmer. He wasn't destined to be stranded on this dry, desolate planet. His future was up there amongst the stars where he could be free and do as he pleased. But for all his aunt and uncle told him, he doubted it. He'd be stuck here forever, amounting to nothing more then a farmer.
But it was fun to think that someday he'd fly amongst the stars. He could follow in his father's footsteps, so to speak. Then again, even being a transport pilot would be more interesting then this place. He could see so many things. He could meet so many people. He could do so much more.
Eyes opened once more, gazing up towards the stars in the silence of the night. He wanted to be something. Here on Tatooine, no one knew him. He was as insignificant as looking at the stars made him feel. But he wanted to amount to something more.
Maybe if he just took off somewhere. Sneak out late at night and take a transport somewhere. It didn't matter where, just as long as he was out there doing something more interesting. He could join the Academy and train to be a pilot. Follow in his father's footsteps. The father he had never met and never would.
But the longing for the stars was in his blood. A feeling this natural among some place he'd never been had to be. He took a deep breath, the cold night air filling his lungs to full capacity before escaping out his mouth in a prolonged sigh. He wanted off this rock. He wanted to fly away and go anywhere but here.
But it would never happen. He was destined to be nothing more then a simple farmer living a simple life on this hellish of planets. He would never go out amongst the stars. He'd never get to follow in his father's footsteps. But it was probably for the best anyways; he had heard some stories about his father's reckless nature more then once.
A bit of a grin formed across the otherwise placid face as it looked up towards the glittering stars above. He was happy here, whether he'd reach them some day or not.
A call from inside cut his stargazing short for the evening, his help required inside once more. He rose off the sandy surface and wiped off what dust had stuck to his clothing. He started towards the small underground abode, but paused before entering to take once last fading glance at the stars.
A star skidded across the sky leaving a trail of light behind it. He smiled to himself as a silent promise was made. Someday he'd do it. Someday he'd free himself from this planet. Someday he'd leave everything behind. Someday he'd follow in his father's footsteps.
Someday, he'd fly away from here.
