Prologue – Part One
Phoebe Griffith, a woman around the age of 35, with dark, short hair, who was a little overweight, walked with her daughter, Chloe Griffith, a 6 year old girl with curly brown hair and dark, black eyes down Privet Drive for morning walk. It was a quiet, peaceful morning. Summer had just come, and Chloe was glad to be out of First Grade. She didn't like school much, not many of the other little girls would come close to her. But now that year was over, and the summer was ahead of her. After the morning walk, they returned home, and Phoebe went to work. Chloe was left with her Aunt Kyria. Kyria was a skinny woman, in her late 20's. She had long blonde hair and black eyes. She was only able to watch Chloe from the early morning to 4:00 in the afternoon. Starting at that time, she worked at a small coffee shop. At twelve o'clock noon, Kyria gave Chloe lunch. It was a small cheese sandwich, cut into small circles with a cookie cutter. Chloe loved it that way, and Kyria always gave Chloe what she loved. Chloe took her circle sandwiches outside, and sat down next to Patty, her Aunt's dog. He was a mutt, but Chloe could never remember what his parents were. She knew him as a small, white dog, 11 years old, with short curly hair that covered his eyes. Giggling as Patty tried to eat some of her sandwich, Chloe left one circle for Patty. She threw it across the yard, and Patty went and caught it. She did that every day, and Patty never got sick of it.
Suddenly Chloe heard footsteps near the tall, brown fence encircling the yard. It wasn't anything out if the normal to hear footsteps, but these were small footsteps, and they were close. Walking over to the fence, Chloe climbed it and looked over. There was a small boy, around Chloe's age, with dark brown hair and big, circle glasses looking back up at Chloe. She jumped down from the fence and opened it up to investigate the boy. "Hi." Chloe said to the boy, who was now sitting down. Chloe joined him on the grass. "Hey." The boy said back. "What's your name?" "My name's Chloe." She said. "What's yours? And why are you here?" She asked. She could never help but be a little bit curious about everything. "Harry." He said. "And I'm here because my Aunt, Uncle, and cousin are stupid. I didn't know anywhere else to go, so I just wanted to walk. My Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon don't know where I am, and I just hope my Cousin Dudley doesn't, because he'll tell and I'll get into trouble." "Oh." Chloe said. "Where are you're parents?" She asked. Harry went very quiet for a few moments. "Harry?" "My parents...they're dead." He said. Chloe suddenly felt very bad for asking and she immediately apologized. "I'm sorry..." Chloe said. "I didn't know...I feel so.." But Harry cut her sentence off. "It's ok." Harry said quietly. "You didn't know." There were a few moments of silence, but Chloe didn't like that. "Do you want to come in?" She asked. "Um, no, thanks though. I think I should go home." Harry said, looking around. "Oh. Ok...maybe I'll see you tomorrow then?" Chloe asked. "Maybe." Harry said shrugging. "Or maybe the next day or something." He stood up and started walking away. "Bye!" Chloe called over to him. "Bye." He shouted back. Chloe walked back into the yard, where Patty was playing with a toy. She sighed, and sat down next to Patty. "Do you think I'll see him tomorrow? Or maybe the next day?" She asked, Patty looked up to her and whined. "No...I didn't think so either.
