Author's Notes: My second Stargate fic. Yay. Again, it's not the greatest. Just one of those stories that appeared out of the depths of my mind. Be afraid..
Well.. This was amusing.. He wondered if she knew that the door to her lab was opened. Jack leaned against the door frame, amused. She had told him she talked to her plants, but this.. there was only one word for this. Amusing.
"You're looking a little droopy today," Sam told her plant, lifting a leaf and looking at it. Jack tried to contain his laughter. He would -not- laugh at his 2IC.
"Maybe I should give you some extra water," Sam said, pouring some water into the soil. "Can't afford anymore deaths." There was a pause before she began speaking again. "I wish it wasn't so.. Hard. I love the SGC, don't get me wrong, but lately I've found myself wanting to resign more and more. I could transfer back to the Pentagon. If I were more like the Col. I would just say 'screw the regs', but I'm not. And I can't. Of the millions of people in the universe, I had to fall in love with Jonathan O'Neill."
'Whoa. Hang on a second.' Jack though. Sam just admitted, to her plant, that she.. whoa. This was too much. He stood up quickly, slamming a foot into the door on accident. Sam spun around, turning bright red. When she saw it was Jack who had caused the noise, she froze, her breath caught in her throat. Jack quickly regained his composure and cleared this throat.
"Carter," he said, stumbling over her name.
"Sir," she said, looking anywhere but at him.
"...Whatcha doin?" Jack asked her, quickly returning to his old self.
"Just.. watering my plants, Sir." Jack nodded. There was a moment of very awkward silence when the alarms sounded.
"SG-1 to the gate room." Sam and Jack looked at each other.
"Well, that's us," Sam told him, walking out of her lab and closing the door.
"Yeah.. Us.." Jack said, putting an emphases on the word 'us'. Sam looked at him and the two exchanged a knowing smile.
It was just another one of those days. And until Jack retired or Sam resigned, there would be millions more of 'those days'.
