Jack cursed as he struggled his way on to the top of the small island that was his beloved Tortuga, pirate haven and physical embodiment of the feeling he got when he was at the helm of The Pearl. He drew a deep breath. The view from here was usually fantastic, but tonight…
The stars will cry the blackest tears tonight,
And this is the moment that I live for,
I can smell the ocean air.
Here I am, pouring my heart onto these rooftops,
Just a ghost to the world,
that's exactly, exactly what I need.
The sight made Captain Sparrow fall to his knees. In the sparkling city, he could already tell that the destruction was beginning. The music and laughter drifting up from the various bars and bordellos were replaced by screams and shattering glass. In the bay, a ship was being torched. It made Jack's heart stop, the symbolism was almost frightening. That was precisely what was happening. Freedom was being destroyed. He silently thanked God that the Black Pearl was safely anchored in a small cove behind the island.
From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire,
And I'm here to sing this anthem of our dying day.
Now he could see them. Red-coated men swarming off of navy ships. Bastards. Gunshots rang through the air. Why? Why had that bloody pirate hunter found this last place of safety? Norrington. Jack thought bitterly. Bloody Norrington!
For a second I wish the tide
Would swallow Every inch of this city,
As you gasp for air tonight,
I'd scream this song right in your face if you were here.
I swear I won't miss a beat, 'cause I never,
Never have before.
An angry tear ran down Jack's face, making a kohl streak. He wiped it away and tried to regain his senses. He refused to act like this was the end of piracy as he knew it. He tried to tell himself that, no, this isn't the end.
From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire,
And I'm here to sing this anthem of our dying day.
of our dying day, of our dying day, of our dying …
Jack looked back at the town, and heard the English soldiers cheering for themselves. Another victory, another blow to piracy's foundation. He shuddered. But it's the beginning of the end.
For a second I wish the tide
Would swallow Every inch of this city,
As you gasp for air tonight,
A fierce passion blazed in his pirate's heart. He vowed then to never let anyone, especially Norrington, ever stop him, to never give up. Fight to the end. To live a free life, and to never forget his code, his crew, or his anthem.
From up here these city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire,
And I'm here to sing this anthem of our dying day.
"Drink up, me hearties, Yo Ho…"
From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire,
And I'm here to sing this anthem of our dying day.
From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire,
And I'm here to sing this anthem of our dying day.
Our dying day, of our dying…

DISCLAIMER: what you just read? Yeah, I don't own anything except the storyline. And I know I normally put this stuff on top, I just didn't feel like it this time.
Comments: I heard this song on the radio, and it was so delightfully angst -y that it made me feel like demolishing a whole city. So, there you go.
