Strawberry Wine

. . .

Ron rolled over on his side, lying beside Hermione out on the grass, the last Saturday they would be at Hogwarts. Forever.

"So..." Ron rubbed his neck, and glanced away from Hermione. "What are your plans after Hogwarts?"

She shrugged, and looked up at him.

"I don't know...I mean...I used to want to...well uh never mind..." she quickly said, looking slightly embarrassed. He looked back and grinned.

"What is it? Come on, Hermione. You can tell me..." He egged her on.

"Uh...well when I was just a muggle. Or...I thought I was atleast...I used to want to..."

He raised his brows, waiting.

"Act." She said glumly.

"Act?"

"Yes...as if...in the movies. It's a muggle thing." She waited for him to laugh, or stare disgusted, or do anything except stand there and look thoughtful! Which is exactly how he looked.

"Ron?"

"I think it's a good idea."

"What?" She stared, incredulous.

What was he saying? He wanted her here. With him. Always.

"I think it's a good idea. I mean...your magic won't go away. You can always come back to it."

"What are you saying? You...you want me to leave? And go chase my silly dream?"

"Yes...I mean...erm...if that's what you want. I overheard you saying that you weren't quite sure what you wanted to do." He rubbed his neck again, nervously.

"Oh..." She said lamely.

Please just kiss me, damn it!

She willed him, though, he didn't seem to be listening to her inner most thoughts at the moment...seeing as...he didn't kiss her.

"What are you going to do?"

"I'm not sure...either." He picked at the grass. "I got a letter from the Cannons. They want me to play...or try, or I dunno..."

"Ron! That's great! You're just telling me this now?"

Well, I didn't want to leave you...

"The letter just came...actually."

Lying! Always lying to her! Damn it, Ron.

After a moment, she sat up in the grass.

"Ron, I think I will take you up on your idea. I mean...I won't act of course, but I'll do something in the muggle business. Take a break...from all this."

Great, he thought glumly.

He knew what she meant, though. After the war, life just didn't seem the same.

"Oh..." This time he was the one who said it lamely.

After another moment, he stood, and pulled her to her feet.

"Hermione...there's something I have to do. And I have to do it now, because if I don't do it...I'll never do it." He rambled on.

She nodded, raising a brow, confused.

Taking both her hands, he pulled her closer to him.

"And I really wanna do this..." He whispered, before leaning in and kissing her lightly on the lips, and pulling back.

"Well, it kind of sucks that we're both going away, now doesn't it?" She smiled, and he kissed her again.
