In the dawn of darkest light
We pause, and turn back
Only briefly-
See, the ruins remain
With the past, and memories fly
Like ashes forever dead
For this there is no equivalent trade
Nothing gold shall stay.
Choices made past- result in pain
It tells me of my sin
Never fading-
Yet, we face forward
If not hope, then faith goads me
Farther and farther-
For this there is no equivalent trade
Nothing gold shall stay.
No light in the darkness we find
No hope- no comfort
No path-
Only a wild hope we chase
Victory in battle, lead into gold
Healing for many wounded-
For this needs no equivalent trade
And nothing gold shall stay.
What legends remain?
What truth still stays?
Look away-
Only this one hope is left to us
Even if it's wrong, even if we're wrong
Even if the meaning is lost-
This is worth any sacrifice.
But nothing gold shall stay...

Hi, it's me again... guess what, I've been bitten by the plot bunnies... (tumbleweed blows by) and to add to the tragedy of not being able to continue Things I'll Never Say at the moment (because I have no idea what to write, reviews anyone?) , the bunnies have decided to make me write a fic with an original character in it.
(gloooom)
In fact, there are a lot of original characters... although the Elrics are still featuring hugely in their quest for self-restoration... well, it depends on reviewer demand. Because it's already mostly finished. In any case, this poem stands mostly alone; I just thought it summed up the plot nicely...
