Cinderella smiles
As she entered the room, the young woman smiled. Her boyfriend had described it so often that it almost felt familiar. She could almost pretend she belonged here. She was surrounded by other women and their dates. She felt giddy. It was like she was Cinderella, and this ball the prince's.
She began to look for him, wondering where he was. After all, he promised to introduce her to Headmaster Cid and help her in her quest. She couldn't see him; was he even there? But then, somebody else caught her eye.
That someone was a man around her age wearing a SeeD uniform. Compared to most males around, he was quite handsome. He had brown hair and blue eyes. Only a scar on his forehead marred his complexion. Was he some sort of prince, like the one Cinderella wished to meet so much?
She followed his eyes and saw that he was looking at a shooting star. As it fell from the sky, their eyes met. Smiling, she pointed out the star. He answered her gesture by cocking his head, looking puzzled. She made up her mind in a second and went to talk to him.
Using all her charm, she tried to make him dance with her. He resisted, and she ended up dragging him to the dance floor. After a couple of steps, she frowned. Surely Cinderella's prince danced better than that. But they kept dancing, and, slowly, a change operated in him.
His movements were no longer awkward; his feet no longer stepped on hers. In all, their waltz was more fluid and time seemed to have lost its grip on them both. How long did it last? They couldn't tell. Nothing, no one mattered anymore, and for a minute she truly felt like a princess. But the music stopped, and everything ended.
Suddenly, she saw her boyfriend, speaking with the headmaster. She said a few words she wouldn't remember and ran from her prince, like Cinderella before her, not even knowing the man's name.
