Hi! This is my first story on ff.net, so please offer constructive criticism, especially on my poor Japanese skills or mary-sue-ishness, and I'll try to go fix things. Flames will be used to power my PC so I can write without paying power bills! Most canon characters will appear eventually, but it may take awhile. Thank you for coming & please R&R!

Disclaimer: I do not own Yugioh. I only own my plot, OCs, and my fuzzy little kitty, Trouble. Holds up dark gray, bat-winged panther kitten It's my story. My kitty is allowed to be like this here.

Trouble: Put me down.

Sadly, he also complains here. Loudly.

New Japanese:

Yami no Tsubasa: Wings of Darkness

Riiku: the agony of separation (also land, but I'm not using it as such)

Yasei: wild (as in nature)

Taka: hawk, falcon

Yami no Tsubasa: Prologue

Riiku gazed into the display case longingly. An elaborate antique hawk amulet had caught her eye. She could never afford it though, it looked like almost pure gold, with precious gems embedded in it, and the chain was silver. She owned nothing but her name, a false one she'd made up in loneliness years ago. She didn't even own her memories before the age of six. Apparently she'd forced herself to forget the events.

The African storekeeper watched her longing eyes, and finally spoke up. "Miss, can I get that for you?"

"Oh no, sir; I'm sorry, I can't afford it. I'm an orphan at the children's home down the road." Riiku spluttered halfheartedly.

"No? Would you like to see it without the case?" He asked, abruptly fulfilling the young girl's daydream. He (correctly) assumed her shocked silence to be a most definite yes, and ushered her into a back room with the amulet in hand. "Wouldn't want the less scrupulous customers to get ideas," he said as he closed the door.

It was an odd room, with a mist filled staircase in one corner, but she had eyes only for the hawk amulet. She tentatively touched it for a few moments, but drew her hand back as the jewels began to glow gently. "It's all right, touch it. It has chosen you as its partner. I would suggest that you don't keep it off once you don it; it's likely to be painful," he said reassuringly.

"But I can't pay…" she began spluttering again.

"This sort of power cannot be bought, for the price would be beyond giving; it can only be given," he said, as she glowed red as the rubies, embarrassed that such a precious thing was being given to her.

"What about the glow? Won't it show people what it is?" she asked, instinctively understanding the need for secrecy.

"Only those with a second sight, and those are rare. Still, wear it under a sweater or the like when you can."

"What's its name?" she asked on a sudden impulse.

"It is the Yasei Hawk, she is called Taka, and I am known as Shadi."

"Thank you, Shadi!" she called out to the empty room. Shadi had descended the steps already, but somehow she knew he heard her.

So, what do you guys think? I'll try to get the next chapter out as soon as I can, but it'd be nice to know that someone actually reads my hard work.

Sorry about how short this is, but I wanted to get it out, and I can't be on the computer all day (much as I wish it). I've got some ideas for the next chapter, so it should be out soon, and you will find out about some of the Yasei Hawk's powers soon; see, Shadi doesn't know what it does either. Also, there are other Yasei items; they just don't have partners yet, and 'she' is the Hawk's spirit.
