August 21

I could not possibly be more excited about becoming a professor at Hogwarts. When I first began lessons there at the age of eleven, I could not have fathomed the incredible adventures that awaited me, and now I am to return to the place that I considered home for seven years of my life. I finally get to return home after so many years of trying to find a place in life that suited me; I do believe that this will be it. Hogwarts, here I come!

Hermione Granger stepped out of her carriage on September 30th and took a deep breath. She was home. With her trunk magically following behind her, Hermione began treading up the winding pathway to the doors that had allowed her to enter a second chapter of her life, now she was beginning a third.

As the new History of Magic professor, as Professor Binns had finally moved on, she did not doubt that it would be difficult, especially because she was not much older than her students. At the age of twenty-three, she had graduated at the top of her class from Salem's College of a Higher Magical Learning in America. As soon as she had returned to Britain, an owl had been awaiting her, inviting her to take over as History of Magic professor in the following year. She would have been an idiot to refuse.

Of all her classes, she was most eager to teach first years, hoping to find a young student who was as eager and ready to learn as she had been when she herself had arrived for the first time. The excitement of teaching young minds ready to be molded was almost more than she could bear, the operative word being almost.

Finally reaching the doors to the castle, Hermione hadn't even put her bags down before the doors were thrown open to reveal the open arms of Professor Albus Dumbledore.

"Hermione, my dear, welcome back. I hope that you will enjoy working here as much as you enjoyed attending, for I know that the professors are all thrilled to have you back once again. Please, dear, just leave your bags here and they will be brought to your rooms immediately. Now, a few changes have been made since you left--"

What the changes that were made were, Hermione never heard for she was far too swept up in the emotion of returning to this wonderful place. By the time she had returned to reality, Dumbledore was dropping her off at her rooms and wishing her luck, as the students were arriving in the morning.
