Life as a transgenic hasn't gotten any better. It's been years since they have gotten out, and now they are still fighting for their freedom. Max has dumped Logan, and sadly enough he went back to his old apartment only to try to start his life again. He still contacts them one and a while, but only when he has information about new transgenics that have started trouble. Life has still gone on, but as time has gone by max has begun to get lonely. She has begun to work harder at freeing transgenics trying to hide it. Alec has noticed it as well as others, but they knew that they couldn't do anything about it.

2023 Seattle

"Hey Max have you gotten the paper work for the newbies down yet. I need to get them out of here before they drive me insane." Dax said leaning into her office.

Max was buried in paper work from new transgenics to the proposal of a treaty with the city. After he had asked that she grabbed a pile of papers and handed them to him. "Thanks, and Max," She looked up. "it will get better." "I know."

He left the room and she dropped everything in her hands, and set her head on the table. She was so stressed out, she knew that she couldn't do all this herself. But she didn't want to ask for help. She didn't want to be vulnerable right now she couldn't afford it. She thought that she had to do all of it herself, she promised them she would. Just then Alec came in.

"Hey, ya busy?" "No I was just taking a break." "I figured you need one, so I was going to invite you to lunch. You up for it? A little pizza, a little beer?"

She thought about it for a second and then reached for her jacket.

"Lets go." "Alright."

They went to a place three blocks away it was the farthest place; Alec wanted to talk to her.

"Max do you really think that all this work is going to solve your problem." "What do you mean?" "Oh come on you know what I'm talking about. You've been in this mood for over a month now, everyone is noticing it." "I don't know, I didn't mean for it to get this bad."

They went inside and sat there for hours talking, and then when it was finally time to go back to the office it was to late, and Max didn't want to do anymore work. "You want to come back to my place, and relax clear whatever's left in your head?" He said looking at her. "I promise no one will find you."

She looked at him for a second as she thought about it. Then nodded slightly. She didn't want to deal with anyone that night.

"See that wasn't that hard, now was it?" he said with a little smirk on his face. Max slightly pushed him.

"Do you always have tobe a smart ass?"

"But if I wasn't then it wouldn't be me would it?

They walked into the apartment, and shhe headed for his bed.

"Don't think that you're going to get the bed tonight." She said stopping to look through his dresser. She found a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, then headed for the bathroom. When she came out he was watching tv, she got into the bed, and fell asleep. Later that night when Alec finally decided to go to bed, he was so tired he did realize where he was falling asleep at.
