Season of Changes
By Chibinaoka

Meiling gently closed the door behind her as she stepped outside onto her deck. The day was unusually warm for spring and Meiling couldn't help but smile because of it. She could feel the cool breeze pass threw the thin material of her Chinese dress. Meiling closed her eyes and listened to the sounds around her. She could here the birds singing and the trees swaying in the wind. She could smell the newly bloomed flowers tickle her nose. They where typical spring sounds and smells and to Meiling they where relaxing. Things had gotten quite hectic ever since she had returned from Japan. It was times like these, when Meiling could be alone with her thoughts that she felt she could truly breathe.

Opening her eyes, Meiling looked out onto the courtyard. It was a typical Chinese setting with its old stone paths and statues. She let memories of her childhood flood her mind. She remembered when she had spent hours training along side Syaoran. She had tried so hard to amount to his level. She wanted to prove to him that she could just as strong as he was, even if she didn't have magic. But the truth was, and it was only know that Meiling would admit it to herself, she wanted to prove to herself that she was capable. And she did. Even if she didn't have magic, she managed to become very skilled in martial arts.

Thinking back to those times, Meiling couldn't help but also thing of Syaoran. It was back then, back when they where children that they had promised each other they would be together in the future. Meiling had clung to that though for many years and in some ways, she still was. Meiling knew it might never come true. She knew because before she left to return home, he had told her that he loved another. Meiling was glad that he had finally admitted it but her heart also ached when he said it. But she didn't do a thing about and she decided she never would. Meiling didn't blame Sakura if she felt the same and Meiling was pretty confident that she did. Behind his tough exterior, Syaoran had a kind heart. Its no surprise that someone else had fallen for him and that he had fallen for someone other then her. But for Meiling, she had never stopped falling for him. There would always be a place in her heart for him and she knew there would always be a place in his heart for her, even if it weren't romantically.

"People changed, just like the seasons change."
Meiling bit her lip as she said those words. It was tough admitting this to herself but it was true. The bitter winter would eventually melt to let spring be born again. Springtime was the season of changes. Just like how she and Syaoran had changed. They where no longer children anymore, they grew up. Meiling knew that, she knew Syaoran's heart had changed, as did her own. She was beginning to accept the though of Syaoran not being with her. But one thing that would never change would be the time she spent with Syaoran as a child. They where precious memories that Meiling would never forget.

"Meiling! Come here please!"
Meiling's family needed her now. She turned around and entered her house. Meiling closed the door on spring; she closed the door on her childhood and her dream of being with Syaoran.

The End
