A/N – thanks for the constructive criticism ill try and fix that up in the next chapters. Hopefully it will make the story easier to follow! Anymore reviews are welcome, I'm grateful to anyone who can help me improve my writing skills and improve the story. Everyone should know I am a real H/Hr shipper so there will definitely be NO other romances between Hermione and Ron or Cho and harry.
Disclaimer: I own nothing (though I wish I did)
On with the story!!
"Hermione dear" she started slowly in the nicest voice she could muster. "I just received an owl". Hermione sat up straighter "it's not good news I'm afraid" Minerva looked over at the young witch and sat beside her and Harry. "Hermione I'm so sorry but your home, last night…it was raided by death eaters." She stopped here allowing it to sink in.
"Mum and dad?"
"They didn't get out in time and-"
"No! No there's been a mistake they aren't. They cant. I still need them!" Hermione was sobbing uncontrollably.
"I know dear, I know. But they have gone. Both your mum and dad passed away this morning." Minerva couldn't hold it in, she too was crying, it hurt her to see her hurting like that.
Harry held onto Hermione while she cried until there were no tears left, whispering in her ear. The three of them sat in silence for a while, when Hermione asked a question.
"Professor?"
"Yes Hermione"
"Was it quick? I mean did they suffer?
"No Hermione. From the information we received it was very quick.
"That's good then I suppose" Hermione still had silent tears streaming down her face.
Mcgonagall knew that Hermione was grieving over Sirius as well and knew that this was going to tear apart the young girl's world, she would need her friends to help her through this. Especially Harry. Harry knew what she was going through and they might be able to help each other. Minerva knew that even though Hermione knew that she was her birth mother, the grangers would always be her parents. They were the ones who had looked after her and clothed her. Minerva was special in another way. Minerva was the one Hermione turned to at school when she was having problems or struggling with an idea, she was like a 2nd mother. Hermione had visited Minerva every summer since she gave her up. But when Hermione started hogwarts it was different. Instead Minerva got very little "alone" time with her daughter. The grangers wanted to see her during the summer since Minerva got to see her during the year. Minerva's house became a place where Hermione could escape if she needed to get away during the time she spent with her parents. Minerva often regretted giving up Hermione. But she knew it had to be done, Voldemort would have targeted the daughter of a powerful witch like herself, so instead she became like a godmother to Hermione. Hermione had never called her "mum" but Minerva didn't mind, instead Hermione called her Minerva or Aunt Min when they were alone together. The staff knew of the situation but no students knew not even Harry or Ron. Minerva knew that Hermione would now want to tell Harry and she was happy with him knowing, it would perhaps lift another weight off the young girl's shoulders.
Standing up, Minerva decided she would leave and get some tea ready. Hermione watched her get up and decided that she needed a hug from Min. Hermione got up and walked over to her professor and hugged her while sobbing into her shoulder. Minerva returned the hug quickly and told her that she was going to go get tea ready and she would call down her and Harry when it was ready. Hermione nodded and headed back to Harry while McGonagall softly closed the door.
Hermione curled up next to Harry when she said something quite unexpected.
"Harry"
"Yea Hermione"
"I want you to know that I am still here for you"
"I know Hermione but at the moment you need me more than I need you."
"Thanks Harry. I love you"
"I love you to Hermione."
"Harry don't ever leave me, I couldn't bear it living without you as well."
"Hermione I will always be here you do not have to worry about that."
Hermione kissed harry on the cheek and hugged him tighter. It didn't feel long before her biological mother was calling her and harry. The three ate their dinner in silence. Harry cleaned up, letting Hermione and his professor talk in the living room.
Meanwhile in the living room…"Hermione I know this is a shock to you more than anyone but…nothing could have been done to stop the attack. The order did not know it was going to happen." Minerva said quietly as she hugged her daughter.
"I know it's just…just that…I still needed them" Hermione was trying to keep her emotions under control.
"Cry. Cry as much as you want it will help."
They sat together comforting each other while Hermione cried her heart out. It was a long time before either spoke.
"Min?"
"Yes dear"
"Would you mind if I told harry about us? It's just that I need to tell someone and confide in someone, and I trust harry more than anyone else"
"Yes Hermione. I was thinking that myself, it might even help him help you grieve."
"Thank-you" Hermione said in a small voice "but not yet when I'm ready"
"Of course my dear, of course." Minerva said quietly
It wasn't long until Hermione had fallen asleep. She was exhausted. Minerva thought to herself. Mcgonagall called harry into the room.
"Yes professor"
"Would you carry Hermione? She isn't very heavy, far too light. But I cant carry her in the state I am in. please?
Harry didn't even have to think about it. He quickly bent down and carried Hermione into her room. Laying her on the bed he pulled the sheets over her and kissed her on the forehead. "Sleep well angel" he said quietly. Harry went back downstairs and bid goodnight to his professor. And quietly walked into his room where he got changed and hopped into bed lost in his own thoughts.
Harry wasn't sleeping well he kept dreaming of Sirius and that night in the department of mysteries. It was about 2 in the morning, harry was finally drifting back to sleep when he felt someone sliding into bed next to him. He looked over to see Hermione's tear strained face. He pulled her closer to her both were crying and grieving for their loved ones.
Minerva woke around 2.30 in the morning and decided to check on Hermione. When she arrived at Hermione's bedroom she looked in and realised Hermione wasn't there. Her motherly instincts kicking in Minerva panicked and went to look for her daughter. Checking all the bathrooms and all of downstairs Minerva realised the one place she hadn't looked was Harry's room, the most obvious place. Creeping along to Harry's room she opened the door quietly and looked at the site in front of her. Hermione's head was resting on Harry's shoulder, his arms wrapped around her protectively. Their bodies were molded perfectly. Minerva couldn't help but notice the two teens tear streaked faces. Had she not have known the circumstances she would have been very suspicious and yelled at Hermione to get back to her own bed, but she knew what was happening, they were finding comfort in each other. They looked so perfect together, so right for each other. Quietly Minerva went and settled back in her own bed.
The next morning Harry woke up but didn't move. He had slept reasonably well last night. Harry had to admit that he had slept a lot better next to Hermione. He didn't have any nightmares after she came in. Harry felt Hermione move slightly he looked down and watched her eyes flutter open.
"Thank-you harry, for last night I mean, I slept a lot better with you around."
"Me to Hermione, I had been having nightmares but I slept well the rest of the night."
"Harry there is something you don't know."
"Hermione you know you can tell me anything"
"Harry this is a secret no one can know except for me, you and professor McGonagall"
"Sure I promise"
"Well you know my m-mum and d-d-dad?"
"It's ok Hermione, but yes"
"Well they aren't…m-my r-real p-p-parents I mean they are but not my biological parents," she added more quickly. "They will always be my parents"
"I didn't know that"
"I know I wish I had told you but I couldn't you will know why in a second." Hermione wasn't sure if she was ready to share this yet, but one thing she did know was that Harry would understand. "I used to visit my real mother every summer until I turned 11. Then I couldn't because I saw her during the year so my mum and dad wanted me over the summer. You see Professor Mcgonagall is my biological mother."
"uh…wow…that's…um…are you happy about that?"
"Yea I mean at first it was weird but it was kinda like having t-two m-m-moth-mothers." Hermione started sobbing not because McGonagall was her mother but because it had brought back fresh memories of her parents.
"Hermione it's ok. Shhhh. It's ok."
"Harry I don't want to forget them."
"Hermione you wont. Listen to me, if you want you could get a journal sort of thing and write everything you can about them."
"That's a really good idea harry thanks" Hermione said in a small voice wiping her tears.
Harry realised they were still in bed and wondered what McGonagall would think of her daughter being in bed with a boy. He knew that Hermione needed him. He needed to convince her that she could love both of her mothers without hurting one's feelings or forgetting the other. It felt strange thinking of McGonagall as Hermione's mother. But in other ways it made sense. Hermione did look like the teacher, she definitely inherited that icy stare from her as well, harry laughed to himself at this.
"What's so funny?
"I was just thinking, now I know why everyone compares you to her when you use 'the look'"
"Yea I spose" Hermione laughed quietly.
"C'mon, lets go to breakfast."
"Okay but I have to get dressed first I'll meet you down there"
" Okay, bye"
Harry made his way down to the kitchen when he saw professor McGonagall limping around trying to get brekie ready.
"Professor I can get things ready if you want?"
"Well I could do with a little help please harry"
"Okay" harry quickly busied himself getting out the milk and cereal. Minerva couldn't help but notice how differently he was acting around her.
"Harry?"
"Yes Professor"
"Hermione told you didn't she?"
"Yes professor"
"Harry stop calling me professor, call me Minerva when we are out of school, Hermione does. Anyway you know you cannot tell anyone don't you?"
"Yes professor I understand, I'm glad Hermione told me though. I think she felt better after telling me."
"How is she this morning?"
"Hmm hard to tell actually. She is still pretty upset but that is understandable I suppose."
"And you?"
"What do you mean?"
"I know you are still grieving yourself, you can talk to me any time."
"I know Pro-I mean M-Minerva" it felt strange calling the strictest witch at hogwarts by her first name.
"Just because you are looking after Hermione it is no reason to not look after your own emotions harry. You need to look after yourself too."
"I know, but Hermione has lost 3 people and I have lost 1. I think she deserves my attention."
"1 very important person"
"Yes…he w-was" harry was trying hard not to cry in front of his professor but he couldn't. Sirius meant everything to him. Harry felt a single tear roll down his cheek.
"Oh harry" McGonagall hugged Harry. He might be a student, but he was a student she cared for a lot.
Harry didn't resist the hug. The only other person that had hugged him like that was Molly Weasley. Harry heard footsteps coming down the steps it had to be Hermione.
"Good morning dear" Minerva said quickly to her daughter. She could tell she had been crying again, her eyes were dull but they have every right to be she thought.
"Good morning Mu-" Hermione looked horrified. She had almost called Minerva 'mum'. She was already forgetting about them, no she thought to herself I'm not forgetting them, it's a morning routine, it was just that Minerva happened to be there Hermione thought. Minerva was her mother too but oh no…what kind of day was lying ahead of her…then she noticed Harry's red eyes. He needed her as well.
AN- so how were the sentences this time hope it wasn't as confusing. Please Read and Review. Any suggestions for my story line would be great I might not use them but I could do with the help thanks.
