The masts had cracked violently down their sides and portions had littered the once dry floor of her deck. The sails had ripped to their former state, now a lonely mass of cloth flying in the raging winds. Other sections of the ship had fallen as well, and were now being washed to and fro across the deck through vile waves. Her present state ruined before my eyes, though I did nothing to bank her. The crew, aside from Ana Maria and Gibbs, had stunned madly to shore, and a single boat remained, reserved for our safety.
"Jack." Ana Maria's silhouette flashed before my eyes in a whirlwind of lightening, and the water had begun to rise at a sound pace. "We have te go, Cap'n."
"No," my voice was distant as the rains drenched my figure to the skin. My heart belonged to the sea, belonged to her many mysteries, and belonged to her storm. And I belonged to my Pearl.
"Jack, this ain't tha time te be daft." Gibbs's voice shattered in the wind.
"I know, mate," I replied, "I know." My eyes squinted and my vision blurred as I centered my concentration onto her disaster. "My Pearl," I whispered as I reached my hand out to her. A small smile pried onto my lips as the wailing wind pulled me from the steady position I once attained. The helm was the single fixture still attached to her deck, and I ran my fingers over her sleek beauty. The deep mahogany wood splintered beneath me and despite the trail of waves rocking the ship, I failed to move.
I removed my hat with a single hand, still holding for my life to the wheel with the other. I brought it onto my chest and saluted the two of importance before me. And they, without avail, saluted me back- Their Captain; Their infamous Captain Jack Sparrow whom would always acquire the Pearl first. As they cut the line holding their lifeboat to her, a settlement of water swept over the space- a sheer sign they'd left at the approved time.
Her deck had leveled to the crown of the water now; I felt the pressure running under the boards. I left a smile on my face with hope it would stay there as I died. With much hope. Hopefully, my encounters with others and my many victories I'd dealt, and the many victories I' yet to deal, would be the source of my name becoming legend. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. My center aspiration was to develop into a legend. Time will tell.
