Meant to Live, Ch.5: Fumbling Confidence

A/N: Hiya all you RFR fic readers! 'Sup? Yeah, yeah I know it's been a while since an update, but here it is guys! BTW, this is strictly an R/L shipper story, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna start bashing all the other character pairings (T/L for instance). Just like me being a Spuffy shipper: that doesn't mean I'm gonna start B/A bashing (that's what my Beta's for!). Anywayz, here's ch. 5!

Lily paced around the room, periodically glancing out the window as slayers gathered in the backyard. Ray, Robbie, and Travis were all sitting on a small bed as they watched her pace, hiding their worry from the Slayer in front of them. She again glanced out the large window, stopping for a moment. Walking closer, she swallowed and lightly touched the pane of glass, letting her hand rest on it. "What if I can't…?"

"What if you can't what?" Ray queried, pushing himself off the small mattress.

She lifted her hand off the window pane as though Ray's voice had triggered a shock of electricity in the glass. She let out a short frustrated sigh and quickly turned to face her best friend. "What if I can't do this? What if…what if I can't cut it as a Vampire Slayer? What …" She paused, searching for the courage to finish the sentence, "…What if I die?"

"You won't die, Lils." Ray spoke solemnly, all the spirit gone from his voice. For the first time he was at a loss for words.

"You don't know that," she responded in a monotone fashion.

Robbie then got off the bed as well. "No Lily, Ray's right." As he said it, he thought for a moment, did I just say RAY is RIGHT? "Remember what Faith said?"

Ray grinned, his expression lightening up. "Um…'never slay vampires in the nude'?" As soon as he made the comment, Lily punched him in the arm.

"She said we were like the Scooby Gang, remember?" Robbie concluded with a half-hearted smile. "And if I remember correctly, whenever Buffy was in danger or died, did her friends ever keep it that way?"

Lily's face lightened a little, encouraging looks from her friends helping considerably. "Thanks guys," she replied just above a whisper. She sighed lightly, taking a few steps away from the window and her friends. "Well…I gotta get ready for training."

Robbie, Travis, and Ray walked out of the room one by one, Lily closing the door behind them. She moved over toward the window once more, the faint sound of chatter accompanied by giggles fading out. Questions of a new girl were heard, as Kennedy appointed herself 'drill sergeant' and started shouting orders. Each girl got into position, hands to their sides.

Lily stared intently at the group of girls. "Here we go."

----

Minutes later, Lily slipped out the back door, finding Willow, Kennedy, and at least twenty Slayers. Willow's head turned as the door shut. She closed the book that had previously been on her lap and strode over to the new girl. "Lily. Hey. I'm Willow…which you already knew, I guess, all with being a fan of that show we're on…" The red head rambled a bit. "Have any trouble getting situated?"

"Nope, no problems." She answered, still feeling a bit weird talking to any of them.

"You're late!" Kennedy shouted into Lily's ear. Lily spun around, facing the angered Slayer. She was a bit shorter than Lily, her wide eyes full of rage. "Stop slacking and get into formation NOW, maggot!"

"…formation?" Lily echoed in a confused tone, raising an eyebrow. Are you gonna let this girl push you around? What would Shady Lane do? a voice in the back of her mind asked her. Her confusion shifted into a tinge of anger. "Well, I'm sorry Kennedy. But until you and your friends get sucked into an alternate world that used to be a TV SHOW, where your worst fears can and probably will happen, you can't tell me to do anything, MAGGOT!"

Kennedy's mouth hung open, eyes blazing. The girls who had been watching looked on in awe, smiling and whispering things like "Did she just say that?" and "I wish I could've done that!"

Lily stood her ground defiantly as Kennedy balled up her fist. Seeing the action, Willow got in between the two, trying to smile weakly. "Whoa, hey now! Let's not start anything, okay? We all just need to, ya know, calm down and back off."

"Besides, if we're all super powerful, why do we need training?" Lily queried, ignoring her new enemy.

"To hone your new skills." A familiar British voice answered. She turned to see Giles standing behind them, hands in his coat pockets. "Every slayer requires training, no matter the circumstances."

Lily rolled her eyes, the hint getting through to her. She slowly walked over to the other slayers as Kennedy walked in front of the large mass of girls, a victorious smile crossing her features. "Attention!"

---

"She's important," Buffy commented as Xander, Dawn and Faith listened. They gathered in the living room as the Slayers continued training outback. The older Slayer sat down next to the window. "I mean, c'mon, she's from a dimension where Slayers don't even exist."

Xander shrugged. "Well, they kinda do, but for entertainment purposes only." Thinking for a moment, he added, "Somehow, that didn't come out right."

"I'm with B on this one. She's gotta be important to have Red break out the mojo to get her here," Faith agreed in a light tone.

"You don't think she'd be a player in another apocalypse?" Dawn asked her sister worriedly. Buffy's eyes went from her sister to the floor at the word 'apocalypse'.

Xander grinned ruefully. "Just when ya thought destroying your hometown was enough…"

"It's never enough," Buffy murmured. She glanced at her friends. "We all know there's one more. And we also know who we're facing."

"Against better judgment, of course," Xander quipped.

Faith directed her gaze at Buffy. "We only have a few weeks."

"That's all we need," The blonde Slayer answered.

Dawn gulped, seemingly entranced. "And then?"

Buffy got up and faced the window. Her eyes became fixated on the Slayers. A mournful sadness was evident in eyes as she sighed.

"Then we get to LA."

A/N: Ha ha! Thus the addition of Spike later on! C'mon, it's not a BtVS story without Captain Peroxide!
