Last Time

The bus finally shuddered to a stop in downtown LA. People began filing out and headed to their separate destinations. The last person off was a girl of about twenty-two carrying a duffel bag. She paused to take in her surroundings and then headed to one of the places she thought she'd never step into again.

Wolfram & Hart. They told her he would be here. The place was a lot bigger than she had last seen, and also a lot trashier. It was a wreck, and it looked as though it was about to all come crashing down.

The girl ran back out onto the street and didn't bother looking back at the damage. She just needed to find him, and she had no idea where to look for him next.

Taking her chances, the girl went left. Maybe she could still catch up to him, the disaster area seemed fresh. She just hoped he wasn't dead; there was a lot of dust in there.

After a few minutes of walking with no success, she stopped at the foot of one of the many buildings lining the streets. She found a fire escape to the side of the building and set her bag below it. Looking up, she prepared herself and jumped high enough to reach the bottom rung of the ladder. They both dropped down with a clang. The girl grabbed her bag and started ascending the ladder.

Once she was on the roof of the building, she took a minute to close her eyes and feel the air around her. There. She knew where to go next.

Another few minutes, another rooftop, and she was gazing down at a small alleyway. It was empty except for a couple trashcans complete with trash. She knew he would be here eventually; this is where it would all go down, she could feel it, so she decided to wait.

Preferring to be comfortable while being bored, the girl set down her bag and sat on the edge of the roof, then stretched her whole body out and rested her head on her hands. As she lay she thought of everything. Her life back before that night, after it, and seemingly pointless things also. None of it mattered really, seeing as how she expected to die this very night.

When she heard a crash she nearly fell off the roof. She got up and looked back in the alley. There were a few people there, why hadn't she heard them coming?

That's when she heard the screaming. Looking ahead, she found hundreds of different demons coming their way. There was even a dragon flying above. Showtime.

The girl vaguely heard voices as she reached into her bag and brought out a crossbow and some arrows. She knocked one into the device, and took her aim. After the first shot, she quickly let a few more go. The dragon was slain.

"Sorry," she said to the dark-haired man with a shrug. "Couldn't help myself."
