Rory didn't like this feeling. She could tell Lane was lying to her.
But why? Rory thought after they said goodbye. Why would she have to lie to
me? She thought about it during her next class. And the one after that. And
the one after that. And during dinner, and while she did her homework. Why,
why, why? Rory thought as she went to bed that night. There was a knock at
the door. Probably Willie, Rory thought, seeing as Paris' new boyfriend (it
was official now) came over a lot throughout the day, but not during
dinner.
"Oh, Rory!" Paris called, in a sing-songy voice. "You have a visitor!" Who could this be? Dean was with Lindsay. Jess was mad at her. Things were 'fine' with Lane, so... Rory thought as she went to meet her visitor. Rory couldn't believe her eyes!
"Luke?" Rory said with caution. Sure, Luke and her mom were going out, but why did Luke come here? "What are you doing here?"
"Is it a crime to visit?" Luke asked. "I was just wondering, if your mom and I were getting serious, well, would you mind if we, well..."
"As long as it's not in Vegas." Rory replied, smiling.
"Why not?" Lorelai's voice said. "Whoops!" she said as she popped out from behind Luke.
"Mom!" Rory said. "You have to ask why not?"
"Okay, but Luke doesn't have to ask for my hand in marriage." Lorelai said.
"Excuse me, but I thought it would be sweet!" Luke said. This was obviously discussed a lot already.
"I know, honey," Lorelai said in a mock-kind voice. "But I'm going to marry you because you will never, and I repeat, NEVER do anything like that." Rory was still in the shock of it all. When they left (already being very late) Willie was here and Paris hinted that she wanted some private time. Rory understood and went back to her room.
Thirty or so minutes later, there was another knock at the door. Paris was closer to the door, with Willie, of course, and so she opened the door. The first thing she heard was Paris' voice saying, "What do you want?"
This could only mean one thing.
