He could feel it inside him, like a hole in his spirit. It had been
getting larger and larger ever since he had returned to Spira only a few
months ago.
He knew it was only a matter of time before he had to tell Yuna.
It pained him more then anything else, that he would have to once again drag her and her friends into the heart of danger. Hadn't she been through enough? Hadn't they ALL been through enough?
But ignoring the problem wouldn't make it go away. He would have to face the specter of fear, the demon that was even now gnawing at the fabric of reality.
Shaking his head, Tidus attempted to clear his thoughts, trying to focus on what was going on around him. Yuna stood by his side, laughing at some joke Rikku had just told her. Brother, Shinra and Buddy were busy playing with some new invention, while Paine watched, unamused. The wind whipped through their hair as the great airship lumbered slowly through the evening sky.
He didn't want to bring her pain. He only wished that they could be happy.
But if they fought, they might stand a chance. If they were taken unawares...then all would be lost.
But not tonight. He would not tell her tonight.
"Hey!" A sudden hand waving in front of Tidus' face pulled him back into the real world. Rikku giggled as Yuna snapped her fingers. "You were dozing off again! I asked you a question!"
"Eh...sorry," Tidus said, shaking it off with a laugh. "I was just daydreaming a bit. What were you asking me?" "I was asking if you are going to play blitzball for Besaid," Yuna asked, hands on her hips. "You aren't just going to squander all that talent, are you?"
Tidus laughed, putting up his hands. "Hey," he said in an air of mock surprise. "How do you know I'm not going to play for...say...Luca?" "Oh!" Yuna smacked him good-naturedly. "Wakka would kill you if you did that!" Still laughing, Tidus replied, "Seriously, though. Of course I'll play for home island, I couldn't think of playing for anyplace else!" Yuna's eyes suddenly grew soft. "So Besaid is your home now, right?" She asked quietly. Taking her hands in his, Tidus nodded. "Yeah. Besaid is my home for the rest of my life, Yuna." "Ahem!"
The two of them turned to see Rikku standing a few feet away, hands on her hips. "If you two want to get all mushy," she said with a wave of her hand. "Go do it somewhere else!"
"You know we do it just to annoy you, Rikku," Tidus answered with a grin as Rikku and Yuna began picking up where they left off in their conversation.
Tomorrow. He would tell her tomorrow.
