The hat lives in darkness and silence. Once in a while, it's
brought out, briefly seeing a few dozen children to decide their
futures. But when it's done, it is taken away, and it spends
another year in darkness and silence.
But even in darkness it can sense people. It can sense there's a familiar man in the chair (Gryffindor!) and a younger one (Slytherin!) standing before him. It can sense a boy (Gryffindor!) rushing upstairs.
But even in darkness it can sense people. It can sense there's a familiar man in the chair (Gryffindor!) and a younger one (Slytherin!) standing before him. It can sense a boy (Gryffindor!) rushing upstairs.
It can sense that the boy is too late, as the old Gryffindor dies. And then the curses fly, and it senses nothing more.
This is a drabble--a work of exactly 100 words (although FF.net seems to mis-count it). There will be no chapter two, so please don't ask for one.
