A running challenge I took. A Five Minute Fic Challenge: write a fic/revise in five minutes, for a fandom you've never written for before/never had anything published in. I've done so...not very well. but I've done so. Anyone else want to take the challenge and thus greatly entertain me?

Title: Untitled Five Minute Challenge Fic
Fandom: Diana Wynne Jones' novel Fire and Hemlock
Spoilers: The very end of the book
Rating:G
Notes: Random piece of future fluff fic; if you've read the book it might make sense. If not, it won't and I apologize.

The paper was not cooperating, the people downstairs were overloud, and the coffee ran out with her last cup.

Polly Whittacker threw down her pen in disgust. "Fiona," she called to her best friend. "I need a reason why I shouldn't go completely mad."

Fiona made a noncommittal noise as she stepped into the living room/Polly's room. She held the day's mail; quickly she shuffled through the pile, then handed her friend a thick creme envelope.

Polly instantly recognized the messy scrawl dashed across the envelope. A wide, bittersweet smile turned up her mouth. "I don't know if this will make matters better or worse."

"Possibly both," Fiona replied immediately. "The two of you do enjoy your arguments."

Polly ignored her and settled down with her letter.

"Better?" Fiona asked when Polly finished reading.

"Much," Polly nodded. She went back to her paper, the bitterness gone from her smile.
