A/N: I do not own anything other than my OCs. Overlord and its characters belong to its rightful owners.
Prologue
I couldn't help but sigh sadly as I looked at the NNI in my bedroom. For those wondering, NNI means Neural Nano-Interface.
I had a lot of good times playing with it. Specifically, when I played my favorite game.
YGGDRASIL.
It's a DMMO-RPG with the main selling point being 'player freedom'. Now, the reason why I was moping around is because YGGDRASIL is actually ending. In around two hours.
After I prepared the NNI, I sat in the chair, put the VR helmet on and plugged the neural port at my nape.
After I did all this, I prepared to jump into YGGDRASIL for the last time.
As I log on to my character, I take a quick look at my stats to make sure nothing has changed. Checking my stats became a habit of mine when I first started playing YGGDRASIL. It always made me proud of myself to see how far I came from the start. I first took a look at my equipment and model first.
My avatar, Oberon, still looked the same as always. A blue-skinned Demon Fairy that is about 5'3 feet tall with a butterfly masquerade mask and antennae, and blue and pink butterfly wings large enough to fly. The game however is not advanced enough to handle that. When I first found out about this fact, it made me a tad bit disappointed but I got over it very quickly.
…
…
Okay, I was very disappointed. What's the point of adding wings in your avatar when you can't even use it to fly?!
Anyway, Oberon is wearing his signature long sleeved black leotard with a renaissance flair at the wrists and his knee high black boots. The leotard itself had butterfly wing designs at the sides and flowers and roots decorated his clothing.. I purposefully made him look like that because fairies typically have plants decorating their person. As for why I made him dress in a leotard…
…It was the only clothing style of the race and I couldn't find anything else.
Moving on.
I then went on to check my levels and stats.

Nice to know that nothing has changed. I don't remember the last time I logged in the game, with all the increasing workload.
A quick look around told me I was in Nazarick. Specifically, in the Round Table Room. It was empty, of course. Always been like that before I left.
The conference room had a gigantic table carved of black stone that sat in the center of the room. The Ainz Ooal Gown insignia is embedded within the middle of the table. It is surrounded with 42 chairs, positioned in a circular pattern.
On the back wall was a display case for the guild weapon, the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown.
Being a member of the guild meant you always spawn in this specific room. Plus, a few requirements.
One, Each member must be a heteromorphic race. Not human. Not Demi-human. Just heteromorphic.
And lucky for me, I am a Demon Fairy, which is a heteromorphic race.
Two, You must have a job in real life.
I'm currently still in college but I do have a part-time job of being a tutor.
Even if I had those requirements, I wouldn't have found this guild if it weren't for a friend of mine.
And that friend just happens to be online. Guild members of Ainz Ooal Gown are also able to know if other guild members are online. It'd be surprising if he didn't see me yet.
He's probably coming in…

I saw a gate spawn right near the door and out came my friend who had been with me when I started playing this game years ago.
His avatar was an Overlord, the ultimate race for Liches, draped in an almost pitch black robe with gold around the edges with an open chest, showing off the ribcage. He had two large pauldrons, made from bone and with a large ruby in each.
"It's good to see you again, Momonga." I happily said.
"You're not the only one, Oberon. I thought no one else was coming on." Momonga agreed with me while coming to sit on a chair.
"I actually thought someone would've come, especially with the servers being shut down." I said as I looked at HUD again. Not a single person except us.
"Not one, I'm afraid. Other than me, you are the only other player to come to Nazarick in quite some time."
YGGDRASIL wasn't advanced enough for emotions to be shown on characters, even more so for undead characters, hence why we use emoticons, but I could tell that Momonga was depressed for not seeing one person of the guild had come to see the end. I mean, he loved this game more than I did.
And I'll be damned if I get to spend my last moments with my friend like this.
"You know what, fuck this." With that line, I started walking towards the door.
"Oberon? Where are you going?' I heard Momonga ask me before he stood up and started walking with me.
I turned my head slightly to look at him and said, "Come on, Let's go walk around Nazarick and reminisce about the good times. I refuse to spend the last moments of my favorite game in a melancholic way. I'm pretty sure you don't want that either."
"...Thank you, Kuebiko-san." I heard him mutter.
"Please, just call me Kuebiko, Momo. We've been friends long enough to be able to call each other without the honorifics. Besides, this day already sucks. Let's at least turn it into a good one." I couldn't resist sending him a smiley emoticon.
"I'll call you Kuebiko if you stop calling me that nickname."
"Which one? 'Momo'?"
"Yes."
"Why? It's easier to say than 'Momonga'. Plus it's cute."
"I agree that 'Momo' is a good abbreviation but I hate the fact that it's 'cute."
"...Alright then."
"Wait, really?"
"Sure, Bone Daddy suits you better anyways." This is one of the times I'm grateful the game can't copy facial movements because he would've seen my grin.
"Oh God, no." He shuddered. "I still remember the day you called me that in front of everyone. I do not want my last moments in Nazarick being called 'Bone Daddy.'"
"HA! That was a great day!" I grinned at the memory. It was the day I was invited into the guild.
"Do you know how long they talked about that? Peroroncino-san thought I had a lover, for god's sake!"
I couldn't help but laugh. "HAHAHAHAHA! Seriously!?"
With a nod, he continued. "Yes! Do you have any idea how long I had to convince him that he was wrong? He even went as far to think I was gay." He said, sighing.
My laughter increased with each sentence he spewed out. Peroroncino did always have a one track mind for anything perverted. After a while, Momonga started chuckling, which soon turned into laughter.
"Hehe… Thank you, Oberon. I needed that." Momonga said along with a smiley emoticon.
I sent him the same emoticon and said, "No problem, Momo. Let's go explore around. I forgot how everything looks here."
And with that, we left the room.
As we made our way out I saw a butler and 6 women that were dressed in french maid outfits standing in a straight line.
"The Pleiades. They were the last line of defense against invaders, right?" I asked Momonga as we stopped by the butler to look at them.
"They are. They were only supposed to buy time for us to prepare, but no one made it this far." Momonga told me as he seemed to open up a menu I couldn't see.
"I see. So these are their names, huh?" Momonga remarked to himself.
"Names? What do you mean 'Names'?" I questioned.
"Ah, sorry Oberon. I was looking at the guild menu. Hang on a second." He introduced me to them quickly.
The butler was named Sebas Tian. The maids were named Yuri Alpha, Lupusregina Beta, Narberal Gamma, CZ2128 Delta, Solution Epsilon, and Entoma Vasilissa Zeta.
…There is no way I am describing these NPCs. I am too lazy to do that.
We then walked away from the maids and explored around.
We eventually made it to the 1st floor and saw the Guardian of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors.
While I was a member of Ainz Ooal Gown, I never really did take a good look at the NPCs or the Tomb. I mostly talked with the other members I was friends with or talking about quests or talking about how we find some places to go kill some monsters in YGGDRASIL. You know, just friend things.
"Her name is Shalltear, right? Who made her, again?" I asked Momonga. I took a good look at the NPC standing around. I immediately got this feeling that I knew her looks from somewhere. What was it called again? Ah, yes.
Gothic Lolita.
She was tiny, compared to Momonga or me, only coming up to our chests. She wore a black evening dress and her skin is incredibly pale. She was incredibly attractive, with blood red eyes and slit pupils. Her silver hair was styled in a long ponytail, fastened with a massive bow. I was having trouble guessing what race she was.
"Shalltear was made by Peroroncino-san." Oh right, I asked Momonga who made Shalltear. Wait…
Peroroncino?
Oh God, no.
"This is the only NPC he made."
Oh, thank God.
"What race is she again? I forgot. I think it was an angel?"
Momonga shook his head and answered, "No, Shalltear is a True Vampire."
I looked at Shalltear.
Then to Momonga.
Momonga looked at me.
I went back to looking at Shalltear. This time, I was looking at her weirdly.
How did he even manage to do this? True Vampires are hideous and she looks decent.
Whatever he did to her, it worked.
"...Didn't he take hours to make her?"
"Indeed. I still remember when he wouldn't stop talking about her for days after she was made." I could tell Momonga was thinking about the happy days. I was too but thinking about how Shalltear was made immediately made those thoughts disappear.
"I heard she was made from different female characters from his H-games." I shuddered at the thought.
"Come on, we don't have time left, you know." I shook my head and took a quick glance at the clock in the HUD. It was already 22:20 PM.
Man, time flies fast.
"Yes, Let's carry on…" Momonga drifted off. I understood, of course. A fellow guild member just went online. It was Herohero.
"We should probably go to the 9th floor. Herohero-san must be there." Momonga told me.
"I haven't really interacted with him much, but it'll be nice to know how he's doing." It was true. I wasn't really close with Herohero as I was with Momonga, Touch Me, or Peroroncino, but he was a nice guy to talk with.
"Indeed. This is the first time he's logged on since forever. Let me open up a [Gate]."
After saying my thanks, we stepped into the [Gate] to the conference room.
"It's been a while, Herohero-san? I waved to him as we stepped out of the [Gate].
"Ah! Oberon-san, Momonga-san. It's nice to see you two as well." Herohero said as his character, an Elder Black Ooze, wobbled.
"It has been a while, hasn't it? Two years if I recall? How have you been, Herohero-san?" Momonga asked.
"That long? This is bad. I've been doing so much overtime lately that I have trouble telling what the time is." Herohero said in a tired voice.
"That doesn't sound healthy at all."
"Shouldn't you go see a doctor or something, Hero-san?" Momonga and I said to him worriedly.
"I already did, but all he said was that I needed more rest." Herohero said with a shrug. Or at least, the slime equivalent of a shrug.
"I see. Just make sure you don't overwork yourself, Herohero-san."
"Thanks, you two. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to complain about my problems when I got here." Herohero bowed his head slightly.
"Hey, don't worry about it, Hero-san." I said with a wave of my hand. "It's alright to complain every now and then."
"Oberon is right. It's no trouble at all, Herohero-san." Momonga agreed with me while giving Herohero a smiley emoticon.
Thanks. I really appreciate it. I'm glad we could talk one last time, but I need to go and sleep. Work starts at 06:00 AM and it isn't getting any easier."
"O-oh." I heard Momong mutter softly under his breath. "Well, have a good night, Herohero-san."
Yeah, Japan's working place is this hard. I wake up 4:00 in the morning to go to school and I still have to tutor some students after classes.
"Good night, Hero-san. It was nice to speak with you again. Make sure to get some proper rest, okay?" I told him.
As he went into his menu, he looked around in what seemed like wonder.
"But man, I didn't expect Nazarick to still be standing. It's because you've been supporting the base even now, haven't you Momonga-san?"
"T-this is the base we built together you know? And I can't take all the credit. Oberon helped out as well."
"Really?" Herohero turned his head toward me in surprise. "Thank you, Oberon-san."
"W-well," Wow. I can't believe you threw me under the bus like that, Momonga. "It's the least I could do as a member of the guild. Although, I haven't exactly been on since my job is getting harder than it already is." I said while rubbing the back of my head.
"Don't worry about it, Oberon-san." He told me while chuckling. "If there ever is a YGGDRASIL sequel, I hope we can meet there again. Thanks, you two, for all your hard work." Herohero said before he finally logged off.
An awkward silence rang in the air until I finally broke it.
"...It was nice seeing him again, right Momo?" I asked him.
It took a second before he finally responded. "Yes, it was. I'm glad to see him doing well."
We both took a glance at the clock to see what time it was.
22:25 PM.
I stood up from the chair and went to the door.
"Wanna go to the other areas? It'll take some time, so we better hurry." I asked him but he was still sitting on the chair, looking at the place where Herohero was before he logged off.
"Momonga?" No answer.
"Satoru?"
For a while, he just sat there looking at the table with a blank stare.
"Are you kidding me!?" He shouted suddenly, slamming his fist on the table. The action made me flinch. "We built the Great Tomb of Nazarick together! Does it mean nothing to them?!"
Before I could say anything to comfort him, he slumped in his chair seemingly exhausted after his outburst.
"No, that's not it at all. When choosing between fantasy and reality, it's only natural to pick reality." He somberly said to himself, seemingly having forgotten about me.
Alright, you know what. That's enough.
"Hey." That seemed to startle him enough to realize that I did exist.
"Y-Yes?"
"I understand what you're feeling right now. YGGDRASIL is ending and now we're spending our last moments here but they aren't here. But even if they aren't here, I'm sure they're thinking all about the times we had together. I can tell they really are gonna miss this game. And like Hero-san said, who knows, maybe we'll see each other again soon."
He wasn't saying anything and I was starting to think that it didn't work. That was until he spoke.
"Thank you, Oberon. That helped." Momonga said.
"Wait, really? I thought it sucked." I said, confused.
"Oh no, it worked. I get what you're trying to say. Thank you, truly."
"Well, we just told Hero-san it was okay to complain. Should it be any different for us?" I said with a shrug.
"I guess you're right." He sighed. "Come on. We don't have much time left."
"Right." I said as he got up from his chair.
Before we made our way to the door, Momonga said. "Hang on, I want to get something first."
"What is it?" I asked him.
He walked over to the display case for the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown.
The staff looked similar to that of a caduceus. It had seven serpents coiling around each other until it reached the head where the serpents all held crystals in their mouths. I think each gem had a different power but I had no clue what they were.
I hummed in thought. All the guild members, including me, spent all our time creating this, even using paid vacations.
"It actually took you until the end of YGGDRASIL to finally get and use a weapon." I told him, smugly.
I'm pretty sure he was rolling his eyes with the way he was looking at me.
"Aren't you being a bit hypocritical, Oberon?" Momonga pointed out my lack of weaponry.
"Hey, in my defense, I'm a magic caster. I'm strong enough to have no need for weapons like a staff or wand."
Since I am technically of the Demonic race, I am not supposed to be a magic caster or else my fighting power will drop. When I found out about this, I just said 'screw this rule' and picked the magic caster class. It was worth it, though, I make a very powerful magic caster.
"Whatever makes you happy. Let's carry on before we run out of time. Where do you want to go next?" He said as we went our way to the rest of the dungeon.
"Hmm. How about the 10th floor? If we want to spend our last moments here, at least we should go to the place where we would face our final showdown."
"I guess you're right. Let's go." He said as we started walking towards the door our of the room.
As he opened the door, however, Momonga seemed to notice the Sebas and the Pleiades, still standing near the entrance to the Round Table room. He stared at them for a while before I finally broke the awkward silence.
"So, what do you want to do with them? We don't have much time left, you know.".
He seemed to think about his decision before answering.
"They'll come with us to the Throne room. As the guild master, I should put the NPCs to good use at least."
"It's your choice to make." I told him. "We should hurry up though." I advised as I took a look at the time.
23:45 PM.
"You're right." Momonga looked at the NPCs before giving them their order. "Follow." We both started walking down the hallway with the NPCs behind us.
As we walked in silence, except for the steps of the Pleiades' shoes, I remembered the times and adventures I had in YGGDRASIL.
Making Oberon, a Demon Fairy.
Getting PKD constantly by other players to the point of almost rage quitting the game.
And getting in the Guild.
"Oberon?"
I didn't realize how long I'd been thinking before I heard a voice saying my name.
"Huh?" I said as I looked to my right, seeing Momonga looking at me.
"Are you alright? You've been quiet."
"Sorry." I apologized to him. "I was just thinking about the old days."
I took in my surroundings, noticing that we were at the entrance of a giant room. I looked almost like a theater, with 72 niches in the walls. The niches themselves were filled with statues that looked like demons.
"What is this room called again?" I wondered out loud. I haven't been playing for so long I forgot what the name was called.
"It's called the Lemegeton, named after Solomon's grimoire. It was supposed to have 72 demon statues in it." Momonga answered me as we made our way to the doors.
"Well, that explains the 5 missing ones. What happened anyway?"
"The person in charge got lazy." Momonga sighed.
I couldn't help but snort at his answer.
We walked in front of the massive doors that led to the throne room. The doors had two impressive lifelike statues on them. The left is a beautiful goddess and the right, a cruel demon.
Momonga was about to open the door but for some reason, he didn't.
"Is there something wrong?' I asked.
"Ah, well, I'm just remembering when Lucifer-san made that golem and…" he trailed off.
Oh. Right. Lucifer did always have a knack for causing trouble.
"He wouldn't do that, hehe. I think."
"Let's hope so." He said with uneasiness.
He opened the doors without hesitation and there it was. The throne room. The Lemegeton was small compared to this.
It was pretty exquisite. It had a wide, high room, probably enough for around 700-800 people, with a high ceiling that had golden decorations. There were numerous chandeliers hanging from the ceiling that seemed to glow with a very Transylvanian-like light.
And in the center of the room is the Throne of Kings. The throne itself was on a flight of stairs. It looked like it was made of obsidian and its back was high enough to touch the ceiling.
"Wow." I said in surprise and awe. "I almost forgot how we went all out in here."
We wanted it to be as impressive as possible since it was the last location of the dungeon. It was the longest discussion we ever had.
We walked towards the throne with NPCs still behind us in a straight line until Momonga put them on standby. At the foot of the throne was an NPC, a female with long black hair, two white horns protruding from her head and black wings on her hips.
"This is Albedo, right?" I asked.
Albedo is the Overseer of the Floor Guardians and was one of the 3 NPCs Tabula made. Although, it made me wonder who the other two were since he never mentioned them.
"She is." Momonga looked like he was going through some menu again before he sighed. "Seems like Tabula gave her a World Item before leaving."
Not the first time. Some of the NPCs of Nazarick, mostly the Floor Guardians, were given equipment from their creators.
But a World Item. Goddamn, Tabula.
"Are you gonna do something about it? I mean, I understand the others, but we had strict rules of giving World Items to NPCs." I told him.
"No." He said, shaking his head. "It doesn't matter at this point."
He stopped looking at the menu before sitting at the Throne of Kings while I stood at his right.
"I never did take a look at Albedo's settings." Momonga said.
"Might as well do it now. Although, knowing Tabula-san, it might be a little… weird." I shuddered at the thought.
"Yes, you're right." He said before using the staff to look at it.
I couldn't exactly tell what he was reading, but the noise he made told me plenty.
"So, how much are you looking at?"
Tabula has a very strong personality. When he is passionate about something, he really puts his entire heart into it.
"It's… a lot. I think I'll just skip some of it to save time."
He waved his hand to skip all of it until he got to the end.
"A bitch!?" Momonga said in shock.
…
What?
"Do you mind describing that a little more?"
"Well, you see…"
And describe he did. I forgot how Tabula was a fan of something called 'gap moe'. It was a gap between personality and appearance. So he made Albedo as beautiful as possible, while also making her as bitchy as he wanted.
"That is some impressive devotion to one's fetish. A very, very disturbing devotion."
"Isn't this a bit much?" Momonga hung his head before looking back up again.
"Do you think he will mind if I change the last part? It is the last day and-"
"Momo." I held my hand up to stop his rambling. "Like you said, it's the last day. You're the guild master and you've been supporting the guild non-stop. If anyone ever comes back, everything will still be the same. I think he wouldn't mind if you change this tiny little… detail." I said.
I know Momonga would disagree with me on this, but he cared more about this guild than anyone else. He should at least be allowed to do this.
"Oh. Thank you, Oberon. My apologies, I didn't mean to start rambling there." He bowed his head slightly towards me.
"It's no problem. I am curious about what you have in mind."
"Hmm…" He hummed in thought as he rubbed his bony chin. "Ah, I got it."
He started typing and when he finished, he started chuckling to himself, for some reason.
"What did you put in?"
"It's a bit embarrassing to say out loud."
"Why? Did you put in 'She loves Momonga' or something?"
He went still as soon as I said that. He also seemed to be avoiding my gaze.
Oh my God. He didn't.
"Wait. Did you actually put that in?"
"...Maybe?"
I started laughing so much that I had to hold onto my stomach. Momonga was cradling his head in his hands.
"Momo! I didn't know you had it in you! You didn't even ask her out on a date first!" Soon, my laughter started dying down.
"How embarrasing… How did you even guess that so quickly?" He asked me as he took his head out of his hands.
"It was the first thing I had in mind." I said honestly.
"Of course it is." He sighed before dismissing the menu and looking at the NPCs in the room standing motionless.
He raised his hand before bringing it down lightly.
"Kneel." He commanded.
All at once, the NPCs went to their knees and bowed their heads at Momonga.
"So, you finally started acting like a real Overlord?" I joked as I leaned against the throne.
"If there's ever a time for acting, it's now." He said as he rested on the throne before looking up at the flags.
"Can you guess whose symbols belong to who?" Momonga asked me as we both looked at them.
"Well… That's yours." I pointed to the flag that held his symbol.
"And that's yours." Momonga pointed to my flag.
"Right, and that's Touch Me's." He points to Touch's flag.
"Herohero-san's."
"Bukubukuchagama's."
The minutes went by with us just naming all the flags that bore the symbols until the countdown was almost over.
It was 23:59:54.
"So. This is it, huh?" I said with my voice low.
Servers shutting down in 6.
"Yes. Yes, it is." Momonga said, his voice the same tone as me
5.
"At least we had fun, right?" I told him.
4.
"Yes. It was fun." Momonga acknowledged.
3.
"Yeah."
2.
"I'll see you around, Momonga."
1.
"Goodbye, Oberon."

Wait, what?
I looked at my side seeing Momonga who was still here, looking just as confused as I am.
"Oberon?" I heard him, except something was off with his voice.
Instead of the voice of a 20 -year-old or so man, it was a deep, baritone voice. Almost as if he really was an Overlord.
"Momonga?" I said to him and the same thing happened to my voice.
My voice is distorted, like a Demon's.
What's going on? Did they push back the shutdown? What about our voices then?
"Lord Momonga? Lord Oberon? What's wrong?" I heard a soft, melodious voice call out to us.
Both of us turned to look at the source of the voice to see Albedo, staring up at us with worried eyes and a concerned look on her face.
At that moment, All I could say was one thing…
"What the fu-"
A/N: Alright. This is the edited version of the first chapter. I decided to change things up a bit with this chapter. I could edit the other chapters but it depends on how I like it.
If you have anything to say, please tell me, so that I can improve what I did wrong. Thank you.
