(Chapter One)

The Camden family sat and enjoyed their

breakfast on the quiet Saturday morning

of October seventh, 1997. There was

light conversation.

"So, what do you think those new

neighbors that are moving into the

Piper's old house next door are gonna be

like?" Lucy asked.

"I hope they're not creepy old people

like the Pipers were." Simon replied.

"Yeah, remember how bad they smelt?

Like dead bodies or something. Gross!"

Mary added.

"And hopefully not grumpy. Remember

how whenever we walked past the

Piper's house, they'd start screaming at

us and threatening to call the cops?"

Matt also added.

"Yeah!" The other four Camden kids

answered Matt.

"The Pipers were meanies!" Little Ruthie

finished off.

"Now kids, it's not nice to judge

people." Annie told her kids.

"Yes mother." The five Camden said in a

unison-type tone.

They returned to breakfast.

Later that day in the Camden's front

yard, Simon and Ruthie were playing a

game of tag. But then, a moving van

pulled up into the driveway of the house

next door.

"Ruthie, it's the new neighbors!" Simon

told Ruthie.

"Hey everyone, the new neighbors are

here!" Simon yelled, running in the

house. Ruthie followed closely behind.
