Chapter 3
Drusilla watched, as Piper, Leo and Paige got ready to go out to P3. Phoebe was working late at the paper. Drusilla was sitting on the couch.
Piper walked over and peered over Drusilla's shoulder and into the notebook Drusilla had been using earlier, to take notes, while Piper had taught her some spells.
'Just memorize the spells. When you get in a bind, or for some reason can't orb, you may need to know this stuff cold.' she warned her.
'You sure you don't want to come along?' Paige asked. Drusilla smiled wanly at her.
'No, but thanks anyway. I think I'm just going to stay here and study.' she said. Piper touched the top of her head, as if patting it, then walked over to the door with Leo and Paige. They waved goodbye, before leaving.
Cole watched in the shadows, as the three got into Paige's car and took off down the street. He already knew Phoebe was still at work. Drusilla was alone.
Cole shimmered into the living room. Drusilla almost orbed when she saw him! Cole could see her briefly disappear in weak, blue light, before she reappeared on the couch.
'Belthazor! What are you doing here? Phoebe could come in at any moment!'
Cole walked over to the couch and sat down next to her. He snatched her notebook, before she could think to get to it first.
'What's this? Spells? Why would you need to know spells, Dru? And did I see you almost orb?'
Drusilla snatched the notebook back and threw it aside.
'You might as well know. I tried to bite Paige a couple of nights back.'
'Oh please! If I had to pick any one of them to bite, it would be Paige, hands down! Okay, so you tried to bite her, so how did you end up here? And human?'
Dru tucked her legs beneath her on the couch. Now that she was human again, she was more aware of how attractive Belthazor's human half was. She shook off her feelings of attraction. Phoebe hated her enough as it was!
'When I bit Paige, something happened....some sort of storm. It came out of nowhere. The next thing I know, I'm on the ground, Phoebe is going to stake me, and I start orbing in and out.'
Cole sat up.
'So you can orb?'
'I have Paige's powers, plus I can still see the future.'
'And this is all from biting Paige? Hell, maybe I should bite her!'
'Well, Leo found out from the Elders that I was somehow related to the Charmed Ones, that is until Angelus made me into a vampire...and killed everyone else in my family.'
'Angelus? Oh, you mean 'Angel'. Yeah, I try to keep out of his way...though all I would have to do is kill him with a fireball. So, you're a Charmed One then, hey?'
Dru stood up.
'I don't think Piper, Phoebe and Paige think of me as one. I doubt they even think of me as a sister.' she said, walking over to where she tossed her notebook. Behind her back, Cole was grinning!
Perfect! Perfect! Dru already felt disconnected from her new 'family'. Cole stood up and walked up behind her.
'Dru, I know you know that I was married to Phoebe at one time. There was one point, when was actually without powers...almost human.'
Dru turned around.
'Really?'
Cole nodded.
'Yes. Even before I had no powers, I used the ones I had to help Phoebe and her sisters vanquish and kill demons. And while Phoebe loved me, her sisters were always suspicious...especially Paige. It ruined my relationship with Phoebe. She was forced to choose between them and me. She chose them.'
Drusilla didn't know if she quite believed him. But she said nothing and continued to listen.
'What I'm saying, Dru, is that you have to give the girls time, that's all. Maybe if I had given her sisters more time to get used to me, things would be different. Maybe if I hadn't made her choose between her sisters and me...'
'Belthazor! I killed Phoebe's boyfriend! This isn't just some rift between two relatives trying to get to know one another. She may very well never forgive me.'
'Call me Cole. I'm trying to start over in my own way too. And you killed Jason Dean?'
Drusilla gave him a small smile.
'I suppose that made your day, hey? Now you can have Phoebe for yourself.'
'What makes you think I want her?'
'Oh please, spare me! The flowers the other day? Look, thanks for dropping by, Belth...Cole, but I really have to be on my toes with Piper. So I'd better learn these spells.'
'Okay, well, part of being a witch with the Charmed Ones, or wherever you're going to be working, will be self defense. Who's working on your moves?'
'Uh, Angel will be. Leo is going to orb me there until I learn how to do it on my own.'
'Okay, well, I could work with you at my place? Come on, Dru! You'll be better prepared when you work with Angel! Who are you going to work with here? I mean Phoebe is good, but she's angry. And Leo?! You should see him! If he couldn't orb he'd have been killed by now!'
Drusilla found herself smiling at him.
'Alright. Maybe it couldn't hurt to have someone else working with me.'
'No, of course not! It'll just get you out in the field faster, that's all! Look, you shouldn't be cooped up here all night. Let's go out.'
Drusilla's eyes widened!
'Uh, no. That definitely is not a good idea.'
'Why not?'
'Cole, come on. Phoebe has made it clear that she hasn't been too happy about our association anyway. I don't want to do anything else to tick her off.'
'Phoebe is the one with the problem, Dru, not us. I am not a threat to any of you and she knows it.'
'Okay... but I don't have anything to wear!'
Cole smiled and eyed her.
'I think Phoebe has something in her closet.' he said in a sing song voice. Drusilla shook her head adamantly.
'Cole! Phoebe would kill me!'
'We'll get home before she sees us...or you in one of her dresses!'
'Cole...'
But Cole pulled on her hand and began to pull her towards the stairs. Drusilla continued to drag her feet. He stopped abruptly.
'What happened to that fun loving vamp I used to know? Surely all of that rambunctiousness didn't disappear as well?'
'No, but I have to watch my P's and Q's here, Cole! I can't be seen out in one of Phoebe's dresses, with you!'
'Pretty please? Pretty please, Dru?'
Drusilla rolled her huge eyes! Mother of God! This man was impossible! She smiled.
'Fine! Fine, you pick something out!'
'Oh, I will!' Cole said confidently, pulling her up the stairs towards Phoebe's room.

Spike tried to quell his growing fury, as he watched Dru dance a mamba with that bloody demonic bastard, Belthazor!
Oh sure, his human half cleaned up quite nicely, but he was still a demon at heart! And that made him no damned good!
He stood in the darkness, behind a pillar at some club. He had found a demon that could teleport him here. When they had arrived at the Haliwell residence, Spike found no one at home. He had then sniffed the air and followed her scent, which was the same as it had always been. That was when he had smelled something else. The presence of a demon.
Belthazor had shafted him on a deal once, the details he could not remember. Then Spike had heard that he fell in love with some witch and had become whipped!
Spike's face had turned to his vampire one, as he watched Belthazor spin Dru around on the dance floor. She threw back her head and tossed some of her dark hair. It had grown since he had last seen her. It now cascaded down her back.
Is this how Angel called himself looking out for Dru? By letting her get involved with this bloody git?! Spike changed back to his human face. He did like the cute little black dress she was wearing. She also looked as if she was getting some sun.
He leaned against the pillar. He would not be able to keep his promise to Angel. He had to talk to Dru again. He knew she was coming by Wolfram&Hart tomorrow for a self-defense lesson. Spike would make his move then.

The next day, Leo dropped Drusilla off in the gym of Wolfram&Hart
'Just call me when you're finished.' he said. Drusilla nodded, her eyes taking in the decor.
'By the way, did you learn those spells Piper gave you to work on last night? Piper wants to test you when you get back. Also, we'll work on your orbing.'
'Uh...yes.' Drusilla lied. Cole and her had been out later than she had anticipated and she had not had the chance to return Phoebe's dress back to her! She had it in her room now, hidden away. Hopefully, she could get it back into Phoebe's closet, before she got home from work today!
'Okay, well call me when Angel and you are done, okay?' he reminded her, looking around. 'I guess he's running late.'
Drusilla shrugged.
'It's okay. I'll wait.'
Leo patted her on the shoulder.
'You're coming along fine, Dru. And Angel cares about you. This is going to get easier.'
Drusilla nodded, then watched as Leo orbed away. She set down her gym bag with her change of clothes. She opened it and rummaged threw it.
If Drusilla had still been a vampire, she would've known Spike was there, before she saw him. The gym was semi lit, and he watched her from behind a punching bag. He wore a pair of sweats and tennis shoes. He wore no shirt.
'You'd better put that beautiful hair up, luv, before it gets in the way.' he said, waiting for her to turn around.
Drusilla, who had just found a scrunchie for her hair, stood stock still and closed her eyes. Damnit! She wasn't up to this right now! 'Dru? Are you going to turn around and look at me, luv, or do I have to come over there?'
Drusilla turned around. She gave him a decidedly blank stare. Spike grinned at her. He had tricked Angel, in order to be here today. Spike had told him that he had found that employee that he had sent him to look for the other day, and that he was in a building downtown, in the basement. Spike had also told Angel that it was imperative that he meet him down there, since the employee had information that he wanted to tell him, and only him.
'Where is Angel?' Drusilla asked in a cool voice.
'He asked me to work with you on your training. So how have you been, pet? You look well...'
'Angel and I had an agreement and I don't believe you.' Drusilla interrupted and turned back towards her gym bag. The man was outrageous and always had been!
Spike let go of the punching bag and moved so that he was closer to her.
'Yes, Angel told me about how you feel about me. I thought we could chat it out a bit.'
Drusilla's eyes swept over him, as she turned back to look at him. She could still see Buffy all around him, though...she was fading. Dru could not understand why. Nor was she about to blurt any of that out.
'Spike, I'll be back when Angel is here.' she said tiredly and picked up the gym bag. Spike snatched it from her and threw it away!
'This is about Buffy, isn't it? You're still angry about my offering to kill you for her.'
Drusilla tensed.
'I don't care anything about you or her anymore.' she said calmly.
'Oh bollocks! Of course you do! Vampire or not, I know you, my sweet and that's....'
'Don't call me that!' Drusilla snapped. 'You haven't the right!'
'But Belthazor does?'
Drusilla looked him up and down.
'What do you know about him?'
'Plenty! I know that you probably won't be ready for your little pop quiz, luv, because you were out all night dancing with him! I watched you!'

Dru looked away.
'I know. I can see it.'
'Then why were you out with him?'
'That's none of your business. I'm calling for Leo now!'
'I can train you today, Dru. Don't let your jealousy get in the way here.'
Drusilla dropped her gym bag. She walked up to him.
'I am not jealous! The slayer was always welcome to you! Good riddance to rubbish! Why aren't you with her now, Spike?'
'She didn't love me back, Dru. Not like you did.' he said calmly. He was then totally unprepared for the blow to his face, given to him by Drusilla's punch! He staggered back.
'There now! That's the Dru I remember! Let's see what else you've got, luv!'
Drusilla hit him in the face again, but Spike grabbed her arm and twisted it behind her back. She had no vampire strength and was not up on her orbing, or she would've slipped away!
'You won't always be able to just orb away, pet! Now how are you going to get out of this one?!'
Dru went limp and Spike released her, thinking somehow she may have fainted or something! Dru then swung around and kicked him in the balls! Spike grunted and went down on his knees!
'Don't you ever pull this crap on me again! Do you understand me? You don't have a clue what I'm going through! And I do know that you're not with Buffy because you 'love' her! Hell, it's the reason Angel isn't with her! So she can have a normal life, free of brooding vampires and other predators! I know you don't love me, but extend me the same courtesy, Spike!' she hissed.
Dru then walked over to her gym bag.
'Leo!' she screamed. Leo came orbing down right away. He saw Spike on the ground and looked at Drusilla.
'Are you alright?'
Drusilla nodded.
'I'm fine. Let's just go. I'll come back another day.' she said, thinking that she would take Cole up on his offer to train with him.
Leo gave Spike a withering glance, before orbing off with Drusilla. Just as they left, Angel burst into the gym. He only saw Spike, getting up off of the floor! He ran over to him and kicked him in the face.
'Bloody hell!' Spike snapped, falling back onto the matt.
'What was that all about, Spike? What? So you could harass Dru? Where is she by the way?'
Spike managed to pull himself up again.
'Gone. Just left with her Whitelighter.'
Angel threw his hands up in frustration!
'Spike! How many times do I have to explain how important she will be to this firm, to you?! She does not want to see you! Damnit! I'll get her back here!' he took out his phone. Spike snatched it from him.
'Spike, do that one more time and see if I don't kick your ass!'
'Angel, Belthazor is moving in on Dru! Our Dru...my Dru.'
Angel eyed him.
'What are you talking about?'
'I went to San Francisco last night.'
'Damnit, Spike...'
But Spike put a hand up.
'Hear me out, alright? I followed Dru and Belthazor out to some club! They were out on a date! I'm telling you, he's not wining and dining her because he wants her, that's for sure! He's after her powers or that witch he used to be married to!'
Angel rubbed his hands together.
'Phoebe and her sisters were worried about his even being anywhere near her. I think I'll pay him a visit.'
'I'm coming with you.' Spike said.
'No! I'll handle this alone.'
'Angel....'
'Spike, I know you still love her, okay? But just do as she asks and stay away from her. I won't let Belthazor hurt her, okay?'
Spike said nothing and handed Angel back his phone. Angel turned and left the gym. Spike closed his eyes. Dru had been incredible today. And she was more beautiful than ever. And, she was sane.
Spike could feel with every fiber of his being, that Belthazor was the one that was going to destroy Dru's piece of mind, not him! He looked around for his shirt. He was going with Angel, whether he liked it or not!
Drusilla watched, as Piper, Leo and Paige got ready to go out to P3. Phoebe was working late at the paper. Drusilla was sitting on the couch.
