Chapter 17

Spike suddenly awoke. He then looked over at the window.

Someone had put dark, heavy curtains up in Drusilla's room. Probably to keep him from getting scorched by the sun. He breathed a sigh of relief and sat up.

He had slept on a couch that was in her room. It was really rather comfortable. He looked over at Dru. She was asleep now, but he did know if she would be anymore responsive than she was last night, when she awoke.

There was a soft knock on the door.

'Come in!' Spike called out in a semi soft voice. Phoebe came in with a coffee mug. She stared at Drusilla, before walking over to Spike and handing him some pig's blood...hot.

'Angel said that sometimes the two of you drink this stuff.'

'Thank you.' he murmured, taking a sip out of the mug. It did seem to perk him up. Phoebe sat in a nearby chair.

'How is she?'

'She finally fell asleep around two. Have you come up with any spells to bring Angel back?'

'Wesley and Paige are working on it. Leo has been up with the Elders most of the night. That means something big is going down.'

Spike set his mug down onto a nearby table.

'And what about you, luv? How have you been doing?'

Phoebe looked at him with barely masked surprise. She hadn't expected him to care.

'I'd be lying if I said I still wasn't just....shocked.'

Spike nodded.

'Quite a metamorphosis.'

Phoebe looked away and nodded. She then looked back at him.

'I'm scared, Spike. I'm scared that we won't be able to help Angel. And I know that the man I fell in love with is still somewhere in him, deep down. I just hate that this whole thing seems to have traumatized Dru in this way.'

'She'll deal with it. She'll have to.' Spike said in a flat voice. 'But what of the Elders? Has Leo returned?'

'No....which makes me think something big is going on in the underworld. Though, I'm more anxious about Dru. I wonder how many more powers she'll gain?'

Spike took another sip from his mug, before setting it down again.

'You know, before Belthazor began stirring up trouble, wasn't Piper going to look into finding out about just where Dru fit into your family tree? Maybe that has something to do with it?'

Phoebe nodded absently.

'It's an idea...though I think when Leo returns, he may have learned everything we need to know.'

Spike looked over at Dru again. She appeared to be sleeping peacefully, but he suspected her dreams were not pleasant ones.

LONDON 1860

Drusilla Pressly waited impatiently outside, as her sister, Eugenia, fussed around in the millinery shop. When would her younger sister realize that a fancy hat was not going to fetch her a titled man?

She tried not to pace, as seconds seemed to crawl into long minutes. Her sister did not have much money either. What did she think she would be able to buy with such a little amount?

'Hello, Drusilla.'

Drusilla turned around, then smiled. Matthew Archibald lived next door to her family. She had known him all of her life. She had loved him all of her life....

'So, I hear you have new neighbors?'

Drusilla nodded, but choked up when it came to words.

'Drusilla? What is it?'

Drusilla looked around, then motioned for him to move into an area that was out of the foot traffic. Once there, they spoke.

'No one thinks it's peculiar, how the Gilbert's just up and left?' she asked.

Matthew shrugged.

'I know my Mum has been whispering with the locals...no one knew they were leaving...'

'Well have you seen the new tenants? I mean where did they come from?'

Matthew could see his friend's fright, and took her hands in his.

'Drusilla, did you have one of those 'incidents'? Is that what's got you so peaked looking?'

Drusilla nodded slowly. Matthew was one of the few people that understood her frightening affliction. The ability to see events before they happened. After she predicted a mining cave in, some years back, she had been labeled, 'that odd Pressly girl'. Eugenia, nor her other sister, Vivian, had this misfortune.

Drusilla even knew that Matthew's parents did not want him associating with her, and were all set to marry him off to another girl....someone by the name of Elizabeth something or another. It distressed her, and strengthened her conviction to enter into a convent. If she could not have Matthew, the secret love of her life, then she would have no one!

'What did you see this time?' Matthew asked, bringing her back to the present. Drusilla let go of his hands.

'Blood...everywhere...inside the Gilbert house.'

Matthew frowned.

'Come now, Drusilla! That is utter nonsense! Why would there be blood in the Gilbert's house? And why would people move into a house like that? Maybe this is a sign.'

'A sign?'

'Yes, that your affliction is fading. I mean nothing like what you're seeing could be possible. Wouldn't that be wonderful if you just stopped seeing such odd things?'

Drusilla didn't quite know how to answer that. And she didn't, especially when Eugenia finally emerged from the shop. She had a large box with her. She smiled at Matthew.

'Hello Matthew. Nice weather we're having here, isn't it?'

Drusilla looked away. Actually, the sky was overcast.

But Matthew smiled politely back at her.

'Yes, isn't it. Well, if you ladies will excuse me, I really must take my leave. I am meeting Mother in a few minutes. Drusilla, maybe we can speak again soon?'

Drusilla just nodded. Matthew bowed, then moved off into the crowd. Eugenia swatted Drusilla with the hat box!

'Dru! You are running out of time! Matthew's wedding to that Elizabeth Henton is in one month!'

'There is nothing for me to do. Besides, I am entering...'

'I know that! But you would not be joining a convent if you had a husband! What did you two talk about out here anyway?'

Drusilla sighed.

'I had another vision.'

'Dru!' Eugenia wailed, 'those 'visions' are the precise reason that Matthew's parents are bound and determined to keep the two of you apart! Can't you just have these visions without saying anything at all about them?'

Drusilla rubbed her arm.

'Eugenia, the things I see always warn of danger...like the new neighbors...the ones that moved into the Gilbert's house?'

Eugenia smiled.

'Yes....the dark one is nice.'

Drusilla peered at her sister.

'The 'dark one'? You have seen them?'

'Yes....I couldn't sleep last night and I snuck out...you know, to take a small walk to clear my head is all...'

'Eugenia! With all of those disappearances that have been taking place, why would you leave the house?'

'Oh, Dru! Don't be cross with me! Anyway, I met one of the neighbors. His name Angelus...Angelus O'Connor. He lives with his sister, Darla.'

'Oh. Well, what happened to the Gilbert's?'

'I do not know. I guess you can ask them at supper.'

Drusilla, who had begun walking, stopped and turned to look at her sister.

'Excuse me?'

'Yes, Mum invited them over to supper tonight.'

'When did she tell you this?'

'This morning. She said it was peculiar because the windows on their house, are covered by heavy drapes and that the woman, or this sister, stood behind the door. She was gracious enough in accepting the invitation, but did not show herself to Mum. Mum thinks she's shy.'

Drusilla's head began to hurt, as another vision came to her. One in which she was seated beside a dark haired man....

****

Drusilla opened her eyes, then sat up. Phoebe and Spike stood up from where they were sitting and walked over to her. Spike sat down on the bed beside her.

'How are you feeling, luv?' he asked, reaching out to touch her hair.

Drusilla flinched and moved out of his reach. She got out of the bed.

'I'm fine.' she answered, but she looked at Phoebe.

'What happened? Did you do this? Did you turn Angel back into Angelus?'

Phoebe took a deep breath.

'We're trying to piece it all together, Dru, but yes, I do think it had something to do with me.'

There was a knock on the door. Leo then stuck his head in.

'Hey, Dru, good to see you up. Phoebe, I need to talk to you downstairs.'

Phoebe nodded, then looked at Dru and Spike.

'I'll be back.' she said, then turned and walked out of the room. She closed the door behind her. That left Dru and Spike alone.

'So,' Spike began, breaking the ice. 'What do we chat out first? Buffy? Or where you were all night?'

Drusilla gave him a look of confusion.

'Where I was all night?'

Spike moved towards her.

'You were acting like a bloody zombie! When you finally went to sleep....well, I hoped that you had snapped out of it.'

Drusilla's eyes moved from his face, to the couch behind him. She then looked away.

'You slept here all night?'

'Yes, I did. Dru, Buffy was not in that apartment last night.'

'I don't want to talk about it!'

'You're going to have to! Because now you have another power and no one understands how or why! That makes you almost as powerful as the Charmed Ones combined and if word gets around in the demonic community about this, then you're going to have more than Angelus to worry about!'

Drusilla rubbed her eyes.

'Spike, I'm just...tired. I'm going to shower and change...maybe Paige will loan me something to wear, then....then I'm going to find Angelus. I can't hide from him.'

'And do what, Dru? We have to consider Phoebe here. She loves him. All we have to do is find a spell or something, and he'll be as good as new. But until then, I want you to stay away from him.'

'So you want me to hide? No!'

Spike gently rested his hands on her shoulders.

'I think that we should just find out about why you can throw people into walls with the wave of a hand, then...well...Wesley and I were talking last night. We're going to lock Angelus up in one of cages we use at Wolfram & Hart, you know, for werewolves and the like. You won't even have to see him.'

'But...'

'Dru, you aren't ready to deal with him and what he did to you and your family, all of those years ago... you're still dealing with being human again. Just stay here...for today.'

Dru nodded, then tried to pull away from him, but Spike tightened his grasp.

'Now, about Buffy....I think that Belthazor morphed into her. He was playing some sort of game.'

Drusilla wrenched free!

'Lord, Spike! You know, you don't have to lie! If you still have feelings for her then just let me go! But all of that pretending, as if you still had feelings for me...it wasn't necessary! I accepted that you loved Buffy as a vampire and I can accept it as a human now too. You're the one that played games, not Cole.'

'I bet that 'Cole' probably is bruised to bloody hell and back, hey?'

'What?'

'You threw 'Buffy' into that wall in our bedroom, correct?'

'Yes, but...'

'Then Belthazor will have one hell of a bruise somewhere on his body, won't he?'

Drusilla just stared at him. She then answered.

'I guess...but...Spike, I can't think about us and Angelus at the same time. You just don't understand what it was like dealing with him, all of those years ago. I had no idea how to get away from him, or how to help my family.'

'There was no fighting him, Dru. Nothing that happened to your family or you was your fault.'

Drusilla backed away from him.

'You know, there was a boy that I loved back then....his name was Matthew. He was going to be married to a more well suited girl...Angelus killed him.'

Spike did not say anything, but just listened.

'My Mum made the mistake of inviting Angelus and Darla over for supper. They moved in next door....killed the neighbors that lived there...'

Drusilla stopped talking and put her face in her hands.

'I have all of these powers and I still feel as if he's going to win.' she whispered. Spike reached out and pulled her into his arms.

'You were alone last time, without powers. He's not going to win this time, Dru. I won't let him.' he whispered against her hair.

Dru just nodded, allowing him to hold her.

****

Piper stood up from the couch.

'You think that Dru will be able to freeze and blow people up as well?! Why? I mean that is too much power for one person!'

Leo looked grave.

'Apparently, according to the Elders, Drusilla's real mother, Rowena Gaston, was a psychic and an enpath. Her father's identity is not known, but the Elders are sure that he is the reason Rowena could not raise Drusilla.'

'Because she was a single mother?'Phoebe asked.

'More than that,' Leo answered. 'Drusilla's real father was suspected to be some sort of powerful male witch.'

'Like Wyatt?' Piper asked.

Leo nodded. Phoebe began to pace.

'Let's summon the spirit of this Rowena. Let's ask her about how Drusilla came to be, and why she let another family raise her.'

Piper nodded, then looked at Leo.

'What about this big thing that's going on in the underworld.'

'Apparently, someone is trying to conjure up another Source/leader. There is word that it is Cole, and that he murdered the demon who had been the original leader of this new movement, Raagon.'

Phoebe threw up her hands! Great!

'Do we know if Cole had anything to do with this Angelus thing?'

'No...and the Elders don't seem to care.'

'What does that mean?' Phoebe asked, her voice sounding tired.

'It means that they think we should stake him, before people begin to lose their lives.'

Phoebe shook her head with disgust, then stopped. Piper peered at her.

'What is it?'

'I don't know why we're screwing around here. If Cole had something to do with this, and he probably did, then he can undo what he did.'

Wesley and Paige entered the room carrying the Book Of Shadows.

'Any luck?' Leo asked. Paige shook her head.

'No, but we haven't looked through the whole book.'

'But,' Wesley interrupted, 'we don't know what kind of spell was used on Angel this time. He didn't lose his soul right away when he...when....'

Phoebe smiled wanly.

'When he first made love to me? No, he did not.'

'And that was deliberate. This is not an impossible feat, it will just be tricky.'

'No, it won't.' Phoebe said. Drusilla and Spike were coming down the stairs as she said that.

'What do you mean?' Wesley asked.

'I mean, I'm going to make a deal with Cole. If he gets Angel's soul back, I will agree to re-marry him.'

'No!' Drusilla cried out and hurried over to them. She walked up to Phoebe.

'You love Angel.'

Phoebe nodded.

'I do. Now more than ever, and I've known him such a short time. But I will do what I have to do to help him.' Phoebe answered.

Spike looked around. Everyone looked positively depressed at the thought of Phoebe going back to that bint, Belthazor! Not that he blamed them! He spoke up.

'Phoebe, see what you can do. Wesley, Leo, Dru and I are going over to Wolfram & Hart. We have to keep Angelus caged up, to keep him from hurting anyone. We'll try out Dru's powers on him.'

Paige and Piper walked up to Drusilla. Paige reached out and touched her shirt.

'My shirt looks nice on you.' she commented.

Drusilla smiled at her.

'Thanks.'

Piper eyed her.

'Do you think you're up to this?'

'I have to be.' she said. Spike reached for her hand and squeezed it. Drusilla looked at him, then orbed off to Wolfram & Hart. Leo and Wesley soon followed suit.

****

When the foursome orbed into Angel's office, they got quite an eyeful. That being, a naked Angelus and Harmony, going at it on Angelus's desk! Angelus looked up, then grinned! Harmony shoved him off of her and hid behind the desk!

Spike looked around and found Harmony's clothes. He threw them towards her behind the desk.

'Bad taste in men, Harm.'

'Yeah, Spike, like you for example.' Angelus sneered. He didn't bother to cover himself, as his eyes fell upon Drusilla. He literally looked like a hungry wolf!

'Hey, Dru! Did you know that I dreamt about you? I was remembering all of the good times we used to have.'

Drusilla moved away from Spike and moved closer to Angelus.

'Things are different now.' was all she said. Harmony had dressed and was standing by Angelus's side.

'Look, guys, Angel may be a bit different, but he's still our boss. So why don't we give him a chance, okay?'

Angelus turned to her and grinned!

'That's the spirit, my little snuggle bear!'

Spike thought he would vomit up blood! Wesley and Leo made faces at one another. Angelus looked from her, back to Drusilla.

'Dru, I'm demoting you. You're now the secretary. I'm making Harmony an executive.'

'Is that right?' Drusilla asked calmly.

Angelus leaned close to her.

'That's right. But you can always change my mind, by trading places with Harmony on that desk...'

'Hey!' Harmony wailed.

Drusilla could not stand him anymore! She punched him in the mouth, causing Angelus to reel back. He then revealed his vamp face to her!

'Oh, Dru, the second time turning you is going to be even more of a pleasure than the first!'

It was then that Dru waved her hand at him! Everyone in the room watched, as Angelus when flying back against the windows, cracking them! He backed away from the window, but not before Wesley, Spike and Leo were on him in a second, punching him, until he was unconscious.

Once Angelus was down, Spike got up walked over to Dru.

'Are you alright, luv?'

Drusilla nodded. Spike walked back over to Wesley and Leo.

'Let's orb him down to the holding cells. Then we'll check in with Phoebe. Maybe she got somewhere with Belthazor.'

'Hopefully without having to give herself to him.' Leo said.

Drusilla watched, as Spike, Wesley and Leo, orbed away with Angelus's unconscious form. She then looked over at Harmony, who was giving her a hostile glare.

'You just have to have it all, don't you? Spike, Cole Turner and now Angel! You with that helpless act....when you've got powers up the ying yang! It makes me sick to see all of these men slobbering over you!'

Drusilla waved a hand at her, to throw her slightly onto the couch, when she noticed that Harmony's mouth stayed frozen in an O! Shocked, Drusilla crept over to her and waved a hand in front of her face. Harmony was frozen! She had frozen Harmony! How? What the hell was happening to her?!
