Kayden was many things. A book lover. Anime enthusiast. Comic freak. Nerd. But despite her geeky side, her wild imagination often got the best of her. But it was her passion. Writing stories. Reading stories. History helped create good world-building platforms. Naruto was close to her heart. All this helped distract her from reality.
2020 and the Covid Pandemic.
2021.
And the current 2022.
Constant Lockdowns.
Working a crappie retail job in Oxford. Worked throughout the pandemic, risking her health to keep the ungrateful population fed and watered. Only a small handful was kind and respectful.
But now... now she was laying on the floor of her workplace bleeding out as a bullet had torn a hole through her chest. Where in England you could get a gun was a strange thing to mull about as red began to decorate the tiled floor. She couldn't feel it though.
The robbers had kicked her head a hard enough a few times for everything to feel numb. She could hear them vaguely ripping out the cash machines in the corner as the others had raided the tills.
The team leader John was passed out in the corner. It had been a stressful time and staff had been reduced to two working the whole shop this evening after most had come up positive on covid tests. She supposed it was why they came today. Least amount of staff to call the police. They knocked him with the butt of their gun when they made him open the tills.
... She was supposed to meet her boyfriend Billy... Guess that wasn't happening. He was gonna pick her up from work and have a nice anniversary dinner together.
Her eyes flickered to her keys that was on the floor a few feet away. Her chibi Obito keyring stared back at her, a breathless laugh wheezed passed her lips as everything began to fade away.

Jerking back into reality was... Unexpected. Her eyes snapped open but she was greeted by darkness. Pain was etched across her entire body as she breathed. Her head- arms- stomach burned with pain more intensely but that didn't stop her.
Instantly she went to lean up, but her head barely raised up as it thunked hard on something wood. Panic began to take root as her hands began to feel on where she was.
A box.
Why was she in a box? Dread began to fill her body as she felt silk was lined in the interior. A coffin.
A fucking coffin!
Oh shit.
They buried her!
They buried her alive?!
She choked her breaths back. Forcing herself to calm as she had a limited amount of oxygen. But her panic was thumping away in her heart as she hammered with her hands against the wood. Nothing. It was screwed down. Or perhaps too much dirt piled on.
Both probably.
Giving up with that method she pretty much groped herself for any anything she would use. She was in what she felt was a dress. A metal bracelet on her wrist. Thank fuck for that. Anything would have done!
She slid it to her fist and began to hammer away, the metal warping around her knuckles from the force, wood splinters and fabric fell onto her face as ripped away, she could feel her nails splitting as she raked and battered her way out, the wood slowly giving way.
Warm droplets of blood dripped onto her face as she her breathing became harder. The air thinning out, but she couldn't stop. Adrenaline surged through her, her eyes tinting red as with one final push her hands broke through the wood.
Loose dirt immediately began to seep in as she forced her way out breaking enough wood to barely slide out of the wooden hole, her dress ripping but that was the least of her worries, her lungs burned as she held her breath as dirt covered her face as she forced herself forwards, losing the metal band somewhere as she went. The primal instinct to survive was at full force as she used all her strength to pull herself up as the second her fingers felt air.
Blood and dirt was in her mouth but she didn't care as her head finally broke to the surface. Her fingers claw the dirt to not fall back. Fresh air was a blessing to her lungs as she spat out soil. It hurt to breathe but...she was here alive. She would have
let out a cry of relief but her tongue felt like lead in her mouth. The area was dark. Night-time. The cool air sent shivers but that didn't matter.
A grunt passes her lips as she dragged herself out the hole. Finally.
Laying sprawled out for a long moment, as her adrenaline subsided, her red-tinted vision blinked away.
Everything hurt... her fingers mainly but she was alive. Her heart thumping in her chest gave her that reassurance. The moon was high in the sky, shining some light for her to see. She grimaced at her broken and bloody nails, she probably looked like death to someone. Getting up was a new struggle.
A moan escaped her lips as she swayed to her feet, she was stiff and slanted as she hobbled off to what may be a pathway out. Pausing to look down.
Eh?
Since when was she this skinny?
Or ...blond?
What happened to her short brown hair?
Blond dirty locks flowed around her face, the dirty rags that was a dress looked to probably a purple colour but right now it was too hard to tell.
Kayden knew that she owned no dresses. She hated them. Too airy around certain placed and on top of that it was hard to find a dress to fit nicely for a near obese person. Fat. But not fat fat.
Her love of sweet food was a difficulty when she had tried to cut down or diet.
But right now her stomach was flat, and what she could feel- muscular. Toned arms too. Huh?
Just what the fuck was going on!?
Clenching her jaw, she staggered off again. Metal gates hug over at the end of the pathway rattled with the biting wind.
Kayden growled to herself; she was tired. In pain. Freezing cold. Hungry and thirsty. It was taking everything not to fall and curl up into a ball, but the exposure would kill her if she stopped moving.
She didn't stop. Not even to full processing the metal sign saying Gotham Cemetery.
Down the road, and onwards. Had to keep moving...
It wasn't until a car screechs to a stop and bright lights flooded her vision.
A woman's voice echoed loudly against the silent night, hurried feet catching up with her.
"Holy shit. Are you alright?" A middle-aged woman said, grasping her arm. "Miss?"
Kayden stared blankly at her; no words would leave her mouth. And in all honesty what could she tell her. She had just crawled out of a grave. That would raise some questions.
With her blank stare, the woman collected herself, realising she wasn't going to get anything from her. She peeled off her coat and slid it over her shoulders, her gaze lingered on her legs for a second as she gently pulled her towards the car. Perhaps checking in case she was a rape victim.
"Come on dear. George, the blankets."
A man who was lingering by the door opened his boot of the car and opened up a bag, he immediately handed his wife the woolly blanket. Kayden let the woman guide her towards the passenger seat. She hunched over, tugging the blanket tighter.
"Dear?" The woman said softly, the sound of a bottle opening. It was water.
The lady offered it out. She bobbed her head slightly, reaching out slowly. It was cold but... Such a relief to her throat. The water was soothing.
The man and woman were talking to each other before the car took off.
Sometime later, Kayden couldn't tell how long but it was a while, but they pulled up to a hospital.
The man got out and headed in as his wife opened her door. Her soft features held a sad smile.
"Dear. These people should be able to help you now." Her hand gently squeezed her forearm as to comfort her, a few minutes later the man re-emerges with a few people in white and a gurney.
Kayden slid out of the blanket and coat as the doctor or nurse began to pull her on it asking her questions but most of it flew over her head.
The second her head touched the pillow she passed out.
Xx
Walking up for the second time was a relief. First thing she noticed was that she felt no pain as she laid in a soft bed. The familiar smell the hospital disinfectant and the bustle of people in hallways...
Opening her eyes, she sagged when she saw the white ceiling and lights, a small
window that looked to be sunset. How long had she been asleep?
Thankfully she was in a single room. Good. She was in no mood for small talk with anyone.
An IV was in her arm, feeding her water and other shit like that.
...And a catheter too.
Eww and uncomfortable.
But best of all. She was clean. No dirt at all. Just hospital disinfectant and soap. Some poor sod had to scrape all that mud off her skin.
Normally Kayden would have been very body shy, her nakedness was just for her and Billy but given the circumstances she let it go.
Flexing her hands as they were covered in padding. Her knuckles were black and blue, while two fingers were taped together. Indicating she had either fractured or broken a bone.
Hearing feet approaching her room, she blinked as a nurse rounded into the room, the door shutting loudly. The woman froze for a second, seeing her awake.
"Hello. I am Judy. Can you tell me your name?" She asked, getting straight to the point but in a kind manner, her hand drifting to her beeper on her waist.
"I..." She began, but her throat was dry and uncomfortable.
"I... Don't... Know?" She managed out hoarsely. Her English accent was odd on her ears, the tone of her voice was off.
The woman handed her a glass of water from the jug off the side, keeping hold of it as her fingers couldn't grab it properly yet.
"I see. Do you know where you are and what happened?"
"No." She whispered. No was the safer option she could say. At least in her vulnerable position.
"Ok, the doctor should be here shortly. You're already on the strongest pain meds but is there anything I can get you?"
Kayden eyes flicker around for a moment, mulling. Her blond hair in her peripheral vision.
"Mirror... can I see my... face?" She asked quietly. If she had blonde hair, just how much of her appearance had changed.
"I'll see what I can do, rest now."
"Kay." She mumbled, leaning her head back into her pillow as she drifted back to sleep. Not realising how tired this interaction made her.
Xx
Kayden stared blankly at her reflection, blue eyes staring back at her as opposed to the familiar green she had all her life... Past life?
The moment she had seen her face, it clicks in her head that she was put into a new(ish) body. Someone recently departed, given how fresh the dirt was when crawling out of it.
Putting the mirror back down onto the side, she leaned back into her pillow in thought. Thinking back on her rushed or hazy memories from before.
Wait... Did that sign say Gotham Cemetery?
Oh shit.
Shit, fuck and bollocks to boot.
This was DC.
Aliens, Amazon and Atlantans.
Death in every corner of the world. You could go out to grab a coffee and get crushed from debris from a Superman Battle or get caught in the crossfire of Joker, Penguin and all that shit.
Being too clever could get you put on kidnapping lists or kill hits.
She was fucked.
And seeing as she dug her way out of a grave, she had been.
This now led to what DC universe. Young Justice. Injustice. DCAMU. Or Prime. There were so many.
She wasn't a huge fan of DC. Sure, she was more of a casual reader and had watched the movies when they had come out but her love was of Naruto franchise where she had watched multiple times and had learned Japanese to understand the Subs.
She knew that story like the back of her hand. The Young Justice cartoon she could keep up with and was a fan of that and Spiderman too. He was her favourite Marvel superhero while Supergirl and Wonder Woman was her favourite DC heroes.
Batman wasn't her popular choice. His no kill policy was flawed. At least Wonder Woman would kill unless she had no other choice. The joker needed to die, yet Batman still had him around.
Since this was Gotham and given how young she looked it was likely she was murdered, and her murder was probably out a free. Which brought up a few unpleasant feelings.
*Knock knock*
Her head twitches to see a man in his early thirties, short brown hair and looked a lot like Taylor Lautner but with a slight beard around his face but with no moustache. A chin strap beard. Good. Moustaches were creepy and full beards were weird.
"Hello, my name is Zero. I would like to talk to you about recent events." He asked calmly.
...Kaden Jones…
His voice echoing in her mind, instantly her body stiffened in hostility, her vision tinted in red as she felt a strange energy surging through her.
Just what the fuck was going on?!
